Thanks for saying what date you visited. It is very helpful to know what we may encounter when we visit. We are Americans who live in Texas. We are planning a two month long trip to Newfoundland in our little motorhome for summer 2024. Thanks for adding to our list of places to visit.

My pleasure! I will say this though: the weather in Newfoundland is as unpredictable as probably any place in the world, so don’t put to much effort into your planning around specific dates! It is probably pretty safe to say the weather will be good from mid July until around mid August, but some years you get a lot luckier than than that… and some years you don’t even get that 😆 Just be prepared (mentally and physically) for everything and I’m sure you’ll love it here!

Thank you for all the filming you share. I have always wanted to visit my father’s homeland. As a child, we only drove from California to BC.

We were there the week before you and also had fine weather. Twillingate was fabulous! We were only there 2 days and 2 nights. Definitely needed longer. The lupines were beautiful. There were a LOT of icebergs!

We stayed for 3 nights and I really wish we stayed longer. Our original plan was to take a day trip over to Fogo Island because we were relatively close but I’m so glad we didn’t do that. We would have missed out on so much in Twillingate, and it would have been a rushed trip to Fogo too. But I’m going to Fogo in a few weeks so I’ll get 2 good trips instead of 1 rushed trip

@@mark_royle_newfoundland we did not go to Fogo, either. We were in NL 5 weeks and only hit the tip of the iceberg of beautiful things to see and do. We loved Port Au Port Peninsula and Pool’s Island for their uniqueness. We spent the last 5 days near Riverhead on the Avalon and really loved that, too. Honestly, it was all wonderful. So glad we watched so many of your videos before we went. My husband is a very serious birder and it was a birder’s paradise. We hit most of the breweries!

thanks for posting , very interesting and you did your history , I was born in Twillingate in 1949 and lived in the old court house because my father was the member there for the rcmp and they spoke well of the town.

Thank you for sharing. That is cool to know. If I am thinking of the correct building that you mention, I have to say it is one of my favorite (amongst some amazing others) in Twillingate

My hometown. I was involved in tourism there for 12 years. Glad you had a good time. It's good to spend at least 2-3 nights if you want to take in several of the attractions. Cheers.

Yes absolutely. If you rush your time in a town like Twillingate you’ll definitely miss out on a lot.

To your comment about an association for tourism, according to the Visit Twillingate website, there's a Twillingate Islands Tourism Association (TITA). Also to add, when I was there in 2022, I went to the Wooden Boat Museum in the northern part of the town. I found it fascinating. When talking to some of the volunteers there, it sounded like they did indeed have a historical society. Another site, behind the museum, up on the hill is a huge crucifix memorial to people lost at sea. It was very moving. Great short and long hikes in the area too.

Thank you for watching, I'm happy you enjoyed it. This was definitely one of my favorite trips of 2023, and I'm lucky that I didn't have to deal with anything like you did weather-wise. I really do want to see it in the winter though!

Golden weather, you make it to want to go there. Please go to Salvage and shoot there, most beautiful seaside village I’ve seen yet ! If your bday is on the 18th then we share, cheers

19th for me… we’re close! I’ve heard that about Salvage recently. Definitely plan to go there soon to see it and maybe do a shoot. We used to go as far as Traytown/Glovertown a lot growing up. We would go to Splash n Putt, but I don’t remember ever venturing further the other way into the peninsula. Gotta make it happen!

My Grandfather was born and raised here, mind you that was 1930, so back in those days, there was not a single thing there.

I can't imagine how different Twillingate would have been in the 1930s! Or any community in Newfoundland outside of St. John's for that matter.
