- In today's video we take a look at an Arcade1Up Galaga Countercade that I picked up last week from Wal-Mart for only $49! I mean, for $49 is there anything really to complain about? Was this a sweet deal or once again am I throwing money to Arcade1Up for no good reason? During the Week this thing was $99, then dropped to $79, then dropped to $49 and that is when I pulled the trigger. Plenty of great mod opportunities using this Arcade1Up Galaga Cabinet as a base as well! Let's check it out and see how Arcade1UP did considering this cabinet has Galaga and Galaga 88 on there instead of Galaxian!

Did you snag one of these for $49? Possible Deal of the year? Which Countercades do you own?
I was able to order two of these at $49. They'll be my first countercade.
Missed the deal by about an hour I'm guessing....work can be a pain sometimes! With that being said I was setting up my 99.00 gamer pro while watching this video! 🤩

I got one to give to my nephews for Easter. They like retro arcade games, so I can't wait to give this to them! I do kinda wish I'd gotten a second one for myself, even if I do already have Galaga on my Pac-Man anniversary Arcade1up cabinet. No Galaga 88 though...
When you mod it, make sure you make a video about it! I'll be following your lead on it, as I was able to pick one up!

Good job. My one and only story I have regarding those is I found a great deal at Walmart also a while back. Brought it home. And........nothing, didn't work. After further investigation someone tried modding it inside and failed miserably. They packed it back up nice and brought it back to Walmart just in time for this tool to come by and grab it. 🤣👍 Well have fun with yours brother.👍

I'm glad you got lucky with your countercades :) But as with everything Arcade1up, I guess I got the other side of the coin. Every one of my countercades have had issues. Now if I got them all at $49 a piece, I could've taken that sting a bit easier, as they at least work as fun decorations.
I guess I was just expecting more, especially for the original $200 price point. Even at $100, which is more realistic in my opinion, I wanted, at bare minimum, something that emulated and functioned well a shrunken down version of an arcade game. All I got was good looking cabinet hardware with a lackluster gaming experience.
In my opinion, based on my experiences, Arcade1up is in the business of making "just good enough" products (with the odd exception of greatness, i.e. Star Wars), to make as much money as they can off an untapped market hungry for an Arcade experience at home. They've taken and implemented some feedback from this community, which is good, but not gone far enough to improve quality and their base customer support to really make a difference. It's a case where their "bottom line" outweighs their talk of passion for what this product really represents. But do I still have hope?
I do, because it looks like Arcade1up has come out with another possible gem with their pinball machines. Your Marvel review, along with Michael B.'s Attack From Mars review, has given me another glimmer of hope. I'll always be grateful to Arcade1up, for bringing a dream not many of us would've thought possible, to life. I just want their words to align with what they produce. I think your review of the Galaga Countercade is the most genuine one I've seen so far. You point out the screen quality several times, which is the biggest flaw of the Gen 2's.
If Arcade1up's goal is to produce a great looking mini arcade cabinet, with the expectation of a lackluster, or "just good enough," gaming experience, then I think $49 is an acceptable price. But I think at $100, which is what I originally thought was a fair price for this type of product, I expect more. If Arcade1up says a decent screen and good controls (I actually think the controls are fine, just spacing/arrangement choices on some are in question) aren't possible at this price, then be transparent and simply show the numbers of what these things cost, maybe give an option at a better, higher cost version. They speak about cost all the time, but never show evidence contradicting decent low priced components to the ones they use. It's like they just expect us to imagine what they're talking about. Why? I understand there are more things besides components that go into making one of these (assembly, overhead, shipping, etc.), but something just doesn't add up for me. And maybe I'm the only one that feels that way, which is ok.
So I went longer than I expected :). I wish you, and those like you, were able to do reviews on the eariler countercades back in the day. I would've saved a bunch of money :) Live and learn :)

Yeah I really like their redesign of the countercade. They size just fits better and better screen to body ratio. Great deal for $50. I haven't purchased a countercade yet. That 2 player SF would do it for me. While I know I'm not really going to play 2 player on it, I just think it would look cool and be fun to have on my desk.

i don't like to keep spamming the comments, but here is another thought on this deal. think of those small 1/4 scale arcade replicas sold at $100+ and even those little pacman and galaga handhelds using nes roms sold at $40-50. So when you put it in that perspective, then it is one heck of a deal for what you get.

Grabbed one. Not sure about modding yet. It seems that it requires a different LCD board and the only one I can find is sold out on eBay. Hopefully Berry Berry Sneaky could add some games to it, but I want to make it a JAMMA SHMUP countercade so bad.

I was tempted but I already have galaga in my Pac-Man 40th countercade and I just couldn’t pull the trigger. I have 3 total 1up countercades in my collection so far. These are the only 1ups I buy honestly because they come preassembled and I haven’t had any issues with these units.
Which ones do you have? Yes Galaga 88 is a better addition on this one vs Galaxian IMO.

@@Charmander009 yeah it is better i do agree. i can play galaga 88 on my gamer pro and the galaga 90 tg-16 on my modded Wii U via virtual console/emulation. I'm not big into modding, but this is a perfect unit for that i think, or if you just love galaga.
You should turn the monitor sideway and throw a Blast Dongle of your choice in there.

My only gripe is the sounds are too high pitched and not true to the real thing, hear the music it sounds too high pitched ,, my dad has a pac man one and it’s the same problem
