woo, this video came out just in time to snap me back to my senses. Temporary psychosis from prolonged fly fishing withdrawal was making me think my cat's hair would make a nice streamer... guess I can put the trimmers down
I really do appreciate the fact you drew it out, and gave reference to length of the drawing. It makes everything that I read without understanding seem much clearer now. Great videos. Long time listener myself. Thanks Mr. Obvious. (Its a good thing).
Great video Brian. You've got a way of taking all the things I've learned and putting it together in a really concise way that makes it easier to think for myself.
Thanks Brian, you've been really instrumental in bringing me back to fly fishing. Thanks to you and Kelly, I'm building a dedicated streamer rig around the Streamer X for up here in the Utah mountains. In one of your videos (which I can't find) you talk about Cortland's Big Shot and I was wondering if you still like that configuration for small to mid size rivers. I'm following your multi--spool guidance and I think the Big Shot fits right in. Thanks for all your great content.
After years of surf fishing I keep the line in the hand. I prefer full sink lines because while wading it is rare to cast over 30 feet but I have the advantage of fishing from a boat. EDIT: Thanks for Your Videos I really Apprechiate them.
An excellent discussion on a very confusing subject. I just finished Streamers for Trophy Trout. And am attempting to setup a new rod and reel. I THINK I know what I’ll be doing now. I think.
For wet fly trout fishing is better if I use sinking tip line? If floating line is good, what is the best set up for wet fly? Thanks ! Your show is the best, I learned all fly fishing from you😃 thanks 🙏
Awesome video!! and thank you for the detailed explanation. I’m going striper fishing here in central California and I was told to use big streamers and sinking fly line.
Hopefully you mean stripers? (this is a family friendly channel). If so, a sinking line is probably in order. Feel free to call the shop if you need any guidance on exactly what to get along with ideas on the flies. Thanks.
Great video. I now have a better understanding of the differences/nuances of sinking/sinking tip fly lines. Do you have a recommendation for a sinking/sinking tip fly line for someone who fishes stillwater?
Thanks for watching. Feel free to e-mail or call Brian or anyone at the shop and they will be happy to help and answer your questions. They do not monitor the comments here...but of course do there.
Very informative video. I purchased the Airflo Max short from your site. Works well, but wondering if I should have gone with the Max Long.. most of the streams and rivers I fish are medium sized. Kelly wasn’t hot on the Max Short in one of his videos in the comment section part of the video.
Thanks for watching David. They can be purchased here: www.madriveroutfitters.com/c-364-mad-river-outfitters-merch.aspx?pagenum=2 or submit a question via e-mail that gets answered on the channel.
Me thinks maybe Brian needs to cut down on the coffee, I had a really hard time keeping up with him from around 1:24 to 1:30. Just sayin'. So the answer to the question is: use the right line for the job at hand. Thanks for tell us what the right line is Brian.

Cat hair makes a great streamer!

Australian Kelpie hair makes nice black and grey dubbing. And as a bonus you can find it all over the house!

Yes full sinking line is ideal for trolling in the kayak. I have a video of me catching a salmon in the salt water last week using full sinking line.
Thanks for watching and congrats!
You're the best, Brian
Thanks for being here!

@@Madriveroutfitters my apologies, just corrected it.. hard to type with small font my bad.
Smashed!!! Thanks Brian nicely done, John is probably fishing the Savanna River. It’s like our Chattahoochee River in the Atlanta Metro Area. 👍
Thanks for watching……and smashing.

Hey man could y’all made do a lake bass fishing video eventually? I’m not sure what sinking lines to get when target bass in lakes
More on the way here but always feel free to call the shop. They can help you there. That’s what they do. Thanks.

Us costal surf guys aren’t scared of the stripping basket. Thus a few show up at the local lakes as well. It’s an acquired look.

Call! It helped me.

For a beginner is floating or sinking better..... And cant you sink flys with weight with floating line???
As he states in the Getting Started Series, floating line is where you want to start. Yes, you can sink flies with weight.
Here is a link to the line episode: ruclips.net/video/pdmwBr5k4jA/видео.htmlsi=itd8Zj1H3RnJkm_L
Getting to that time of year around here when even a lead line won't sink without an ice auger
