it seems so obvious, but I've always stumbled on the up strum after the mute. seeing you exaggerate keeping the pick below the strings on the "chop" is a really nice, helpful, reminder. thanks Erich.

I see what I’ve been doing wrong. I was strumming on the chop. I just tried it this way, with only the chop on 2 not the strum, and it was so much easier. Thanks Erich!

Excellent advice, I will try this. I believe this is the same technique Eddie Van Halen used, that you noted in your lesson on "Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love". Much thanks. 🙏

Very good. I have been trying to practice this and have been doing it wrong. I’ve been trying to strum and chop at the same time. But the way you’re demonstrating this you are just chopping. Correct?

I don't know for sure, but I'm thinking that both are acceptable. Maybe it's more about finding what works for you.

Can you show exactly what parts of the hand hit the strings on the mute when your playing fingerstyle? Is it the fingertips stopping the strings or the knuckles or something else?

I have older guitar from the 60s, Harmony Patrician. It it has quite high stings over bridge before anchoring. Would this work with that guitar? I'd think it could be done closer to fret board when the string are not as raised from body of guitar.
