Lots of great products, especially if you can get them to do 155 or 160 cranks! Like someone else said, please work with them on bringing back a front derailleur like the IRD Sub-C too!
I think that being a competitively priced shorter crankset is, on it's own, a great way to set this crankset apart from the rest of the market. They should definitely do 160, and 155.
Damn. Thought you might have gave up on some of this stuff through the move. Looks like you nailed that hinged bar end. Wishing you the best on bringing all this to fruition, it's gotta feel great seeing your ideas come to life. Hope yall are doing well over there.
Seconded. On a related note, will these cranks work with a road (not gravel) front derailleur? This could be exactly what I'm looking for for my Frankenstein adventure bike.
Following. I was gonna install MTB crankset but then realized the q factor is huge and unnecessary so I'm looking for a lower q factor. Id like to see 180mm in length, but I'm very tall.
For the bar-in, can that screw be the 1/4-20 thread like a camera mount? I could see this as being not only for extra hand holds but an extra mounting point for things like cameras or selfie sticks. The silver dropper post is beautiful, love it! Crankset is cool! Love more color support too. And replaceable consumable parts just makes sense, thanks for not pinning it together.
Hard pass on having one imperial screw on bike components, IMO. Everything else is either metric or it's own industry standard (like BSA thread). One oddball imperial bolt will just lead to rounded bolt heads or impossible to replace specialty hardware (and probably also cross-threaded parts).
Amazaballz! Yes to everything you offered including purple and teal chainrings. 165's for me but agree that 160/155's are needed in the marketplace. Huzzah!
165mm cranks in silver with 38/24 silver chainrings. Race Face have a 110/74 adapter that fits their cranks also so you can run it 1X or double. Nothing wrong with old style vintage square taper cranks also. Lastly Avid used to make a 74-58 BCD adapter so you can run a small 20T chainring for those loaded bike climbs. Keep up the wonderful job on your videos and hope Spain is all you thought it would be.
You've come a long way in just a few years, congratulations. The bar ends and the double chainrings are both great options. I almost never use my 50T ring and having a low geared double like this would be awesome.
My MTN bikes back in the day were all SunTour XC Pro based so I went Microdrive and life was good. I raced with 110/74s with a low gear of 1:1. When I got to the gear it was time to jump off, shoulder the bike and run. It was just faster. 😅 Your Crank is awesome and it makes perfect sense to provide the option to use 110/74 chainrings. I like it. 👍🏻
Love that crankset! Super cool more refined version of the old 110/74 triples we've all been using as doubles. I agree 42/26t is a great combo. Even matched with an 11-36t cassette, it's a great range.
WOW, So amazing dude! I'm well happy we can get a 110 75 crankset like that and chuffed you've been an ambasador of change to get this to market! Please, please, please can we all push for the cranks to be available down to 155?! I would love to see that and I know many people that would benefit from shorter cranks. Thank you Russ. Legend. Oh, also, I installed my own bar 'ins' and not only were they a pain in the ass taking everything off to get them on, but they scratched my bars while manouvering round the curves of my alt bars. So those lever clamp style bar 'ins' are totally rad.
Those cranks are exactly what I have been looking for! What would be a matching front mech for those chain rings? Very few modern ones seem to cover that wide range.
Those were a limited run if I remember correctly? Also they didn't offer anything shorter than 150mm of travel. I hope they become a regular offering though!
When it comes to gearing my new Rove came with a 40 x 11-42. Just not enough for the steep stuff so I swapped out the crankset to a Deore with a 30t. 19" to 75" travel, perfect for my usage and a very cost effective solution.
The bar ends(?) are a fantastic idea. I have similar shaped ones mounted on my VO Seine bars (same shape as VO Crazy bars.) I call mine “In-Seine” bars 😉. But the inclusion of a hinged clamp is 👍.
What's the spindle length going to be for the cranks? I.e. Road or MTB? I'm preferring 160mm cranks. And I need ca. 160mm or even a bit slimmer q-factor to be comfortable.
Love the new crank design and the way you have taken into consideration the increased use of external bottom brackets. And the dropper post looks the business - shades of Eddy Merckx with HIS ‘dropper post’ (a quick release seat pin clamp) flying down the Tourmalet. What wouldn’t he have given for a PLP dropper post!! Cheers!
I haven't seen Rene Herse cranks mentioned but like every other option that has something difficult like availibilty they are expensive and square taper. Your work with Merry Sales is much appreciated. Those cranks stack up so many well thought features. The question about a wider chain line vetsion (Salsa Cutthroat inspired) perhaps could be addressed by a modified spider?
i have the original cletus the non hinged version. Mounted on ritchey kyote bars on my ritchey outback. Theyr're great. Also just ordered a rivendell lugged roadini and the silver cranks are what i want. 165 46x28
Hi Russ, kudos to you for persistently and successfully advocating for alt cycling solutions! Especially when it comes to using 2x cranksets (and the front derailleurs :)). This crankset looks really nice - especially the silver version with black chainrings has a good chance of looking great. Personally, I'd prefer a slightly more delicate and aesthetically refined design - I'm in that group of people who think the crankset is the central visual point of any bike and has a huge impact on its appearance. However, function > form. Luckily, all my bikes use the good old 68mm BSA bottom bracket. And there are still tons of beautiful 110/74 square taper cranksets for that, like the TA Carmina or Sugino XD2/Spa Cycles, not to mention used and NOS ones from the past. I totally agree with you that the more options on the market, the better! Thanks!
165mm is the trend for medium sized riders, should definitely go lower for an underserved market. 155mm is would be great since Shimano only goes down to 160mm
I'm interested in those cranks. Looks like you have replicated the expensive Sugino ox2-901d cranks which I run with 46/30 chainrings. Great to hear that they will be available in silver. What will the Q factor be? And the chainline?
So excited about these cranks. I have the GRX cranks and have been looking to get some lower end gearing. Specialties TA only goes down to 44/28, so I would love to give these a shot. Probably looking toward the 165 length. I have only ridden 175 and 172.5, looking forward to getting something on my bike that makes it more comfortable and efficient!
I love all of this. Is the crankset spindle length for 68 or 73mm shells? I hope 73, but that seems similar to the IRD Lobo. Yes to teal and purple. And silver. And all the lengths 150-180. Great work on these!
Super interested in the “bar-ins”! I’ve been wanting something like that for my swept-back bars. One seemingly interesting competitor is(are?) the “Spirgrips” - have you tried those and how do your bar-ins compare?
Hope the cranks come out in 73mm axle length if the first shipment sells well! Only sram has their wide cranksets, and some gravel bikes are using that BB width, standert and lauf, for example
Absolutely love all of that, hope the spider gets sold separately, Engin make one but Like the look of yours/Soma's better.Going to get those bar-ins as soon they are available, been using old bar ends like that for years. Great job Russ👍
Would love to see the color options on the chainrings! Also, please kick up a fuss about shorter 150mm and 155mm sizes! I don't know anyone who's building a bike or buying a crank who still uses 170+mm. I think the short cranks have won, it's over.
Depends a lot on leg dimensions. Lanky people will probably be fine with longer cranks, but I think a lot of people are using excessively long cranks in relation to their leg dimensions.
I'm 6'2" with a 36" inseam. I'm very happy with my 175 cranks. But I guess I'm on one end of the curve. I just hope "they" don't make it as hard to find cranks as it is to find pants that fit!
For the bar accessories. Alt-alt-ba An alternative to the alternative bars. I have checked and it doesn’t appear to be a rude word in another language.
Silver is the new black. Not to sound like a conspiracy kook, but I figure manufacturers love black cranksets because the inner shoe wears off the paint, and also many riders rest the bike on the crank when parked, so the crank will get worn, so the more image conscious riders will want to swap the crank because it isn't pretty any more. I'm probably wrong, but it is time for a change.
I can't wait for those cranks and seatposts to become available! What is the chain line on the cranks? I'd like to replace a 105 crankset/front derailleur combo. Will the cranks slot into that set up?
Love that crankset! Recently I was agonizing over getting a new crankset for my Lynskey. I am currently running a 105 50/34 but I need to pull it for my old road bike to sell it and given the bike is already set up for 24mm Shimano cranks but Shimano really doesn't like releasing 165mm versions of their higher end cranksets and almost every other 165mm crankset available with a decent gearing for me was outrageously expensive. Now, granted I really DO want a sweet Appleman or White Industries crankset, but I can't justify the cost right now. The GRX 600 cranks are available in 165 but only in 46/30 (which would limit me too much as I like to bomb on road descents) and the GRX 800 cranks are available in 48/31 but they don't go down to 165 for some asinine reason. Eventually I discovered that Microshift Sword cranks are available in 165mm and 48/31 (which is ideal for me) and just pulled the trigger on those. But man is it frustrating how slow the industry is coming around to producing high quality cranks in shorter lengths. It really shouldn't be this hard to find cranks that work and it drives me nuts that Shimano uses such oddball BCDs for their road/gravel cranks.
The crankset offers a very nice combination of features. Nicely spec'd. I've been running a 42T large chainring for some years now and I agree, it covers a lot of ground in terms of what gearing works for a lot of cyclists. Any idea of what the Q factor will typically end up being on this crank?
When are you gonna refresh the 11x14 giclee prints (lots are sold out and my favorite appears to be delisted)?! There was one called sunday something or another and I was hoping to get it as a gift for someone this year. As always keep up the good work!
For the love of all things holy pls, pls, pls make 155mm cranks. I would buy multiple sets. Also, silver cranks would be a great option and I would prefer cranks whose Q-factor allows them to fit on frames with wider stays rather than being limited. The crank axle is steel I trust?
Bar end/ins.. I need this product. Take my money... I tried doing this with the ritchey bar ends and it was just the wrong angle and was anti-ergonomic... You have developed a brilliant product. Perhaps a good name would be inney/outey... A joke name like a belly button.. Lol
I'd buy a spider only for Shimano direct mount cranksets! I'm personally trying to just get a wider range than my 38/28 XTR chainrings with my 2x XTR Di2 setup but have found no luck. I've got an XTR crankset that uses the Shimano direct mount and I think Shimano is the only company that makes 2x chainrings that mount to it. Even those 2x chainrings are super hard to find.
1x is the dumbest trend. Trading so much range for a few grams and even less bucks savings? Never worth it. This crank sounds like the bomb, I'd love to try it!
Lots of great products, especially if you can get them to do 155 or 160 cranks! Like someone else said, please work with them on bringing back a front derailleur like the IRD Sub-C too!
Can't wait for the bar ins. Checking Soma Fabrications now.
Yes, 155mm cranks. Please. Also: SOMA has been forever out of stock of the IRD Sub-C FD. No plans for a similar FD in the future?
I think that being a competitively priced shorter crankset is, on it's own, a great way to set this crankset apart from the rest of the market. They should definitely do 160, and 155.
Came here to say this! I would definitely buy this is they made a 155. I just bought a Shimano 105 in 160 because that's as short as they go.
Damn. Thought you might have gave up on some of this stuff through the move. Looks like you nailed that hinged bar end. Wishing you the best on bringing all this to fruition, it's gotta feel great seeing your ideas come to life. Hope yall are doing well over there.
The "bar friends" are awesome- so glad you have the hinge so I can throw them on any bike without having to rearrange the while cockpit.
Silver hollowtech II style cranks. YES. I roll with 175 but producing 160 and 155 makes soo much sence.
Thanks Russ! Great products and thanks to Merry for supporting those of us who are a bit alt.
Super stoked about the cranks. What's the chainline and q-factor on these?
Very happy to see another crank that will support demand for BSA BBs (albeit external versions)
That crankset design is nicely thought through. Works on old bikes, works on new bikes. Amazing!
Definitely the cranks need to be 160mm!
For real, hugely underserved market trend going even lower to 150-155 range
For the bar-in, can that screw be the 1/4-20 thread like a camera mount? I could see this as being not only for extra hand holds but an extra mounting point for things like cameras or selfie sticks.
The silver dropper post is beautiful, love it!
Crankset is cool! Love more color support too. And replaceable consumable parts just makes sense, thanks for not pinning it together.

@@Skooteh1/4-20 is an international standard used with metric, as mentioned on camera mounts.
Amazaballz! Yes to everything you offered including purple and teal chainrings. 165's for me but agree that 160/155's are needed in the marketplace. Huzzah!
Wider "Bar-Ins" placement and swap-abilty in both on off ease and extension choice adds up to a hit product. 👍
Congrats on working on projects like that! And going on detail that is important for usage and repairability.
You've come a long way in just a few years, congratulations. The bar ends and the double chainrings are both great options. I almost never use my 50T ring and having a low geared double like this would be awesome.

Your Crank is awesome and it makes perfect sense to provide the option to use 110/74 chainrings. I like it. 👍🏻
I’ve said this since you went down the inner bar end quest years ago. SQ labs. $45 and you’re done. Granted, no hinge
Congrats Russ! To be honest not really excited on the thumbnail seeing the black cranks, now that I watched it super excited for the silver version.
Love that crankset! Super cool more refined version of the old 110/74 triples we've all been using as doubles. I agree 42/26t is a great combo. Even matched with an 11-36t cassette, it's a great range.
The lowest on 74bcd is 24T. Definitely want to try those bar ins and a purple and teal chainrings.
WOW, So amazing dude! I'm well happy we can get a 110 75 crankset like that and chuffed you've been an ambasador of change to get this to market! So those lever clamp style bar 'ins' are totally rad.
The crank spider would be good to pair with existing praxis cranks. Love it
More colors more better! I’d buy cranks with colored chainrings, and that dropper post, and the bar ins😁
And big yes on the cranksets!!! You guys know me and know I’ll be all over that purple/teal combo! Make it so.
Fantastic, cycling gear for those who like to ride bikes. Cranks look great.
Looking so forward the silver cranks! And that they go down to 165mm ✨
Knowing Russ, well not personally, I would be very surprised if he didn’t do 165mm at the minimum.
165 is medium sized now, should go lower
Great work. Would back all these products in a Kickstarter (if you go down that route). The cranks I want to be able to buy right now!
Those cranks are exactly what I have been looking for! What would be a matching front mech for those chain rings? Very few modern ones seem to cover that wide range.
3:45 PNW Components released their droppers in silver last month
I would be so down for the purple teal crank color set
Those were a limited run if I remember correctly? Also they didn't offer anything shorter than 150mm of travel. I hope they become a regular offering though!
That crank is awesome. My clydesdale butt strips square tapers, so this is a definite win for my touring bike.
When it comes to gearing my new Rove came with a 40 x 11-42. Just not enough for the steep stuff so I swapped out the crankset to a Deore with a 30t. 19" to 75" travel, perfect for my usage and a very cost effective solution.

The dropper is stunning.
Love the cranks as you have set up and the Bar-in for attaching whatever. 👍🏼Good job.
This is awesome! Love the new crankset!
155 cranks please. Btw origin 8 cranks are good options for square taper short cranks!
What's the spindle length going to be for the cranks? I.e. Road or MTB?
I'm preferring 160mm cranks. And I need ca. 160mm or even a bit slimmer q-factor to be comfortable.
I dig the cranks and the bar ends are a great idea! Makes sense to me.
all these products look great! I believe engin cycles has a sram compatible 110/74 spider for those interested
That crankset looks fantastic - Both practical and attractive. Hopefully affordable, too!
Love the new crank design and the way you have taken into consideration the increased use of external bottom brackets. And the dropper post looks the business - shades of Eddy Merckx with HIS ‘dropper post’ (a quick release seat pin clamp) flying down the Tourmalet. keen on the bar inners!! i love having bar ends and it might be good to have them be flexible
No lever on the handlebars… no cables!
I'd love to be able to read more about pins and ramping on the chainrings, when they come out!
I’m running the Gevenalle on my monster gravel bike 1x12 (34 oval and 9-52).
Love Gevenalle
We need more dropper options like this! I'd slap one on all my bikes :)
I actually jumped up when I you said it would be in silver...
YES, YES, YES MAKE THE COLORS HAPPEN! Would love to see a GOLD 44t chainring 🤩 ✨
The alt crank & dropper are brilliant ideas
It's great your working with Merry Sales. Jim is great and thinks out of the box.
Yes to purple and teal chainrings!
Beautiful dropper post! Be aware though, if you make the actuation lever too long, it will catch on things. Perhaps give us lever options!
Would totally buy the purple teal crank set.
Soma could likely do well just making smaller rings for GRX double setups.
Metal chainguard would be nice.
i have the original cletus the non hinged version. Mounted on ritchey kyote bars on my ritchey outback. Theyr're great. Also just ordered a rivendell lugged roadini and the silver cranks are what i want. 165 46x28
Cranks are perfect. WIsh the silver were available last year when I was building my current bike
Hi Russ, kudos to you for persistently and successfully advocating for alt cycling solutions! Especially when it comes to using 2x cranksets (and the front derailleurs :)). 165mm is the trend for medium sized riders, should definitely go lower for an underserved market. 155mm is would be great since Shimano only goes down to 160mm
But Shimano 160's are still stuck in 50/34 rings - useless for many, many people.

if you are curious, aliexpress already sells such cranks and you can use different spiders with the 3 bolt system and it comes with a 24mm spindle
@freondakilla Wow. Thanks. I'll take a look. I'm looking for something with a narrow Q Factor like Shimano Road (145mm?)
So excited about these cranks. I have the GRX cranks and have been looking to get some lower end gearing. Specialties TA only goes down to 44/28, so I would love to give these a shot. Super interested in the “bar-ins”! I’ve been wanting something like that for my swept-back bars. One seemingly interesting competitor is(are?) the “Spirgrips” - have you tried those and how do your bar-ins compare?
Great stuff, all super practical and aesthetically pleasing. The dropper is what all the ‘90s mtb restomods have been waiting for.
The crankset is going to be amazing. Is there a way to tell wether or how they would be shipped to Europe?
Hope the cranks come out in 73mm axle length if the first shipment sells well! Only sram has their wide cranksets, and some gravel bikes are using that BB width, standert and lauf, for example

I tried 170. Usually use 172.5 or 175. I like them but wouldn't want to go any smaller. I'm 6'1".
For the bar accessories.
Alt-alt-ba
An alternative to the alternative bars.
I have checked and it doesn’t appear to be a rude word in another language.
My Shimano Cues crankset has 165 arms and 46-32 rings that are bolted not riveted… but it’s 4 bolts and not the BCD shown on yours, Russ
Here am i again watching videos of products which will have hard time reaching my country.
When are you gonna refresh the 11x14 giclee prints (lots are sold out and my favorite appears to be delisted)?! There was one called sunday something or another and I was hoping to get it as a gift for someone this year. As always keep up the good work!
Will there be any availability of these products in UK?
For the love of all things holy pls, pls, pls make 155mm cranks. I would buy multiple sets. Also, silver cranks would be a great option and I would prefer cranks whose Q-factor allows them to fit on frames with wider stays rather than being limited.
The crank axle is steel I trust?
Please, please keep pushing for shorter crank lengths. Shorter cranks (my preference is 160mm) are an important part of this product's USP.
Hi Russ, do you know if the cranks going to be polished or a bead blasted finish? Modern bikes are missing the shiny.
How long is the dropper? (seatpost length, not the drop). It looks lovely!
Very creative Russ ! What cassette would you use with the 40/26 crank set up?
11-42
That dropper❤❤❤
Dropper: Is it gas/fluid or 100% mechanical (spring)? Gas/fluid droppers have issues with cold and seals.
Those cranks are compelling. What is the chain line and Q? Same or similar to GRX?
- 150, 155, 160mm please
- silver color options
Tho seeing how the albion cranks are always out of stock its gonna be hard to get one when its up
Can you adjust how high the dropper post pops back up? So as to have it pop up to the correct length, like the hite rite
They Bar-ins should be called "Cletus Clips"
Will there be an Inner-Barend iteration for racing bike handlebars (31.8 mm)?
1x is the dumbest trend. Trading so much range for a few grams and even less bucks savings? Never worth it.
This crank sounds like the bomb, I'd love to try it!
Whats the price point on the cranks?
