  • A common topic - caravanning mistakes! Some are funny, some are serious and others are downright rude and annoying. We love catching up with Adam & Letitia from ‪@suncoastcaravanservice1977‬ when we are back in South East QLD. In this episode we discuss what NOT TO DO when caravanning.

Really laidback sensible episode there. All extremely important information. Getting a weight check is definitely 💯 necessary, after 40 years of driving everything on farm, towing a caravan was still rather nerve racking at first.. still! Love the way you are all able to highlight personal responsibilities & minor fails 💞

Cheers y'all. Best cheap fun you can have is a deck chair and few beers at a busy boat ramp. So much entertainment.
An extra set of eyes at the back of a van never hurts anyone.
Another point to make is having the set up level from front of car to back of van. I see so many rigs sagging at the hitch ,the car looses steering, braking because a nightmare and it's just damn dangerous.

Absolutely every thing you all touched on is so true to be aware of . We have been caravanning for a very long time are not full time caravaners but do frequent trips ranging from a few weeks to 6 months but agree with all you have said so thanks for the video . And just about UHF radios , please have one and use it .

Another helpful positive video, thanks guys!
An extension of the discussion around people watching those having difficulty parking in caravan parks are those who park their cars or setup their sites in ways which make it difficult for people to get into sites. Even after a few years, I have really come to realize how important it is to think ahead about helping others!!!

Good episode, thanks Guys/Gals! One thing you might need to mention is gung-ho drivers, towing huge caravans, at breakneck speeds overtaking. They are as big a road menace as slow drivers! And, if they simply must overtake, please stay on the blacktop to avoid throwing rocks into other's windscreens. 🙂👍

Great advice, looking at buying our first van and the towing course is something we have looked at.

Hi Guys, great ideas for everyone. One thing that we always do after we have hitched up and take off. 5min down the track I may second guess myself, about if the water pump had been switched off (for example} We stop the car and go and check. fortunately the pump was off. Saves the worry for the drive. Thanks Guys.

Talk about caravan park etiquette, whilst we were staying at a park in Bussleton, kids on electric scooters should be banned. Bumping into people and rude to people and going like hell. Anyway enjoyed this episode guys. Did we miss your fuel spend compo? Cheers for now.🥰

Morning, I’m curious as to amount of wildlife you’ve encountered driving all those klm’s around Australia?
Is it because your truck is lifted so high that you haven’t opted for 2,3,4 post bull bar options?
I’m waiting on delivery of my 2500HD and I’m not lifting it so trying to decide on what front bar to opt for. I live in QLD so skippy’s dusk and dawn are fairly common.
    Cheers Kev

Hey! We actually haven’t encountered much at all. We try not to drive at dusk or dawn - but even when we have done we haven’t had any problems 😁

I had a friend hook up my horse float at the end of pony club once. I trusted him as he tows horse floats also.
First intersection on to the Princes Hwy and the hitch came off, float went into the back of the ute (no damage) and then chains pulled it up as it went backwards. With the kids 2 ponies on board.
My fault - I didn't check it. Never again will anyone hitch my van/float/trailer but me. And I swap them all over to Tregg style hitches for added safety and reticulation.

People with oversized trucks & vans that park they’re truck on the road so the opposite site can’t get in drives me nuts. And they act all grumpy when you ask them politely to move

One of the dumbest things I EVER saw was a person who let their 10 year old son skateboard UNDER our van between the hitch and the caravan front axle TWICE while we were trying to reverse our rig into a ridiculously tight spot.

mmmm commenting fails. hahaha ok here is Mine, few years ago I lived in a van park.. Dad came with his big arse flash as micheal jackson 25 foot van (traveller pent house) parked up in a really tight site ( Must admit he could back a van). now overnight he used to (with ropes, old ex trucker thing) tie a rope from the awning to his bullbar and also one from the tow hitch to the awning, thus it couldnt blow over... In the morning going to get some bevvies and groceries I pulled the Im driving you car car card and I started it to warm it up said as I went to the loo block.... you take the ropes off and a yep came back... so I jump into the drivers seat and flicked it into reverse and yes you guessed it ripped half the awning off cos he didnt undo the ropes.... I was pissed off and chucking a hissy fit and all he could do was laugh at me.. We also added a stop to bunnings for some larger screws and sikaflex. came back, re attached the awning and sealed and tied the car back to the awning.... sitting under the awning with it raining a few days latter and he commented that he needed to re seal it as it leaked but it didnt anymore... I was still pissed of tho, but now I look back at it I can laugh.... but only a little..... great vid ADU I enjoyed it
