To the people that know .. it’s not a boring Golf . Personally I have always loved VW’s designs . they are quiet and frugal most of the time , yet no matter which one in the range you buy they all have the ability to put a smile on your face from time to time .
Just wish my uncles 3 month old Gen 7 Golf didn't break down twice in the week i visited him, leaving us stranded both times on the M11. Since then my uncle has reported so many issues that he swapped it in for a 3-Series. Out of the frying pan ....
So you English blokes - I live in America - have a Golf R with DSG - Love it. Here’s the question. When I switch into the R mode - I see that shows up as S on the instrument cluster. The S mode appears to be even more aggressive than just the R mode. To get into regular Race mode I pull down once on the DSG gear shifter. It then shows up as D on the instrument cluster but it’s now in a mode less aggressive than S or sport. So essentially you have 5 modes - comfort, normal, race , custom and now Sport. Thoughts?
Not really a living with video, it's just a review, I'd expect you to have "lived" with it day in day out and give insight in to the ownership, things to look out for, problems you ran into etc not just I borrowed it for the afternoon and here's a bit of info, it wasn't crap but it wasn't accurately portrait either
Had a Gen7 Golf R for nearly 3 years, just about to upgrade to the 7.5 Golf R with Wolfsburg package and performance pack. Love the Golf R, but have had a Gen 5 Gti, Passat R36 (god I loved that car) and a Scirocco R (loved that as well). The Golf R is a weapon because the average punter thinks it's a normal Golf, until they see your tail lights as you smoke them. Wolf in sheep's clothing! Was looking as RS3 Audi sedan 2017/18, but the money for the extra power was not worth it. In Australia the RS3 is A$85,000 plus on-roads (plus options, although not many except for carbon brakes at $9,000). Not worth the money. Golf R is the all-round package. Might not be the fastest to 100 km/h, but what's the difference between 4.1secs (for the Audi and AMG45) and 4.6secs for the Golf R? Do the sums.
The R36 was the greatest car point to point. Very quick over a long distance, but so comfortable. Loved it, but the 3 year lease ended and I had to move on. Now looking for another one to modify and have as a second car. God we loved that car, and the noise!!!!
Thank you Tom, you actually gave more information on a car than most people. My dad was a motoring writer in Australia (Bill Tuckey) who made it his mantra to give as much information as possible about a car whilst remaining neutral in terms of the product and the supplier. You have done the same thing. My deepest regards for your work as a very young man in the game. Keep your integrity and independence and you will go far. Stuart Tuckey.
They are leased as a tax writeoff. It makes money when you sell the car above the lease residual. Plus you get a new car every 3 years. Works for me, but doesn't necessarily work for everybody. Understand your comments and in most cases may apply, but not here in Australia where the tax system is very favourable for car leasing.
Tom Bromley Talks Cars The American model is missing a lot. They get less attractive tail lights and you know the center arm rest/console? Yeah, that doesn't even open up. Lol
Nice. Well made video and nice delivery. To be honest music not my taste but that's just my opinion. You've done a really good job on production. Don't know if you tried a launch but if you still have the car try it. You need to turn traction control off, put it in race mode, hold the brake down, floor the throttle and release the brake (on a DSG version of course).....much more of an experience than just driving it off in race mode.
good talking point but i must say just becuz the R is the highest hp and cost car in vw line up doesnt mean its the flag ship there are other factors like units sold clearly the gti holds that title
Tom Bromley Talks Cars no get that I'm just saying that with all the years the gti has been out the R really shouldn't get the title flagship after only being on market for short period of time keep in mind that golf is a base modal so taking the GL and changing it to a R, putting a gti engine with a bigger turbo, haldex all wheel drive and a 40k price tag on the window doesn't make it a flagship its still a golf not a gti the true flagship of vw
Nice Tom. I've actually been spending the past 4 days driving the Golf R. its such an amazing vehicle. Last night I took my kids for a joy ride and they laughed/smiled the entire time while driving in race mode. Today its been raining all day so I took it out for a test drive. The AWD does just fine in heavy rain. Yes it also looks so so good. I'll be uploading my review film this week. please subscribe I do car reviews full time for the past 6 years. Loving it!!!
Fantastic video Tom. Very well put together, a thoughtful review and great coverage. I look forward to more of them. I'm in America and subscribed because of this review!
Hey guys I recently reviewed the Mk7.5 Golf R Estate: ruclips.net/video/1o8b8Nr2fhA/видео.html Hopefully it proves an interesting comparison to the pre facelift R Hatch in this video.
Very well done but about 2 years too late with little to add to the now beaten to death mk7 R review. Also; I could not stop picturing you as Anthony Michael Hall from Breakfast Club.
+RABBI SCHLOMO You're only getting 30mpg if you're driving it like a granny 24/7, in which case you bought the wrong car. Pause this vid at 4:44 and you'll see this one is averaging 22.9mpg over 67 miles, which I'd say is much more accurate.
I have a stage 1 360bhp and if I drive in Eco gently cruising it will get about 32mpg. Highest I've ever had out of it on a journey was 40.1 but that was driving it very very gently. Daily use as I normally drive it's around 22mpg on average but when I'm really driving it I've had it as low as 11mpg 😂
Tom please don't promote VW - their bad customer service is beyond a joke - I've been a VW owner & superfan for the last twenty years...but I've just got rid of my last ever liar-wagen!
Years ago we use to call cars like this one, "sleepers" because they looked ordinary but were extremely fast. Good video.
Tom, I really enjoyed your video and can relate to everything you said. That's because I've a brand new 7.5 Golf R. It's truly an amazing car.
sam67uk your a lucky man, a MK7.5 Golf R sounds like an excellent daily!
Episode 4 ? Very well done !

Me: Only 137 subs? Make it 138!
Hope more come to you, really good quality and honest review.

Great video mate, I'm regularly in Stratford with the business, never know we might see you around!

Awesome video Tom. Bought my FL S3 last fall and love it to death. Basically the same car as the R.
Good work, really well produced and articulate video. Looking forward to more
Spencer Guo Thanks for the comments - currently have two more videos being edited 👍🏼

Good presenting. Great camera work!

Rossi 46 Passat R36 - now that's a car you never see in the UK!

So, you usually buy a new fully loaded car after 2-3 years? What a waste of money.

Song name at 6:30 please
Bro does it make u feel the g force and push u back into ur seat?
Gosh I want a Golf R so bad. It sucks we can't get the three door in America ):
Quad Squad No 3 door in America? Well that's news to me - that is a big shame!
Tom Bromley Talks Cars The American model is missing a lot. They get less attractive tail lights and you know the center arm rest/console? Yeah, that doesn't even open up. Lol
Quad Squad why would you want the 3 door? Yuck.
Mad Benco Cause it's fuckin sick lol I honestly like both equally, but the 3 door is different and unique in my opinion.
Quad Squad to each of their own, I guess. I have children, so a 3 door wouldn't work for me. Defeats the whole purpose of a functioning hatch.
Just found your channel Tom! 👍
Great video! 😊
Good review, looking forward to more

jonnyfez Thanks for the comments - appreciate it 👍🏼Yes I don't know why I didn't use launch control - such effective acceleration every time.
Is the extra money worth it compared with a gti ?
Great review and edit.
great car.. I really like it. what the music name at the beginning ?
Good video 👍
A very Patrick Bateman approach to presenting.... I like it.
Ross McCracken Cheers Ross
Nicely done mate. Sub'd
I love mine. Definitely goes from 0-62mph quicker that 4.9. Tested.
Good review there mate. Articulated yourself well and you have a good camera presence.

I liked you in Jerry McGuire, nice to see you all growed up.
The human head weighs 8 lbs.
Harry Potter did well for himself after the films
Billy Lee chill
I have a 16 R manual us spec and today on my way home from work my clutch started slipping on a bone stock car at 13,800 miles
Love it 👍🏼
Alis Frazier 👍🏼
Very well done but about 2 years too late with little to add to the now beaten to death mk7 R review. Also; I could not stop picturing you as Anthony Michael Hall from Breakfast Club.
Nice, well produced video Tom. You seemed like a really nice guy when I met you in the Tesla store 👍🏼👍🏼👌🏼
Keep the great vids coming
OnlineHousehusband Thanks Paul, hope all is well mate. Enjoyed our conversation about cars in the store!
well done
Nice vid
Nice car
But I have to ask?
how old are you?
You look 15 !!!!!!
Haha 15? Well I'm old enough to drive anyway..
What about fuel consumption? Not that you should care since it's a performance car ...
Nima Abbasi I get 30mpg and my previous Polo Gti 192hp was about 40mpg so not bad considering 300bhp plus induction kit!!

That’s not how you do launch control lmao
This guy is weird
On if the few cars that looks better wiht 4 doors instead of 2 JLW
Fk m n m . Golf r is awesome . MAGA . PROUD BOYS >
One of the worst looking R I've seen... It doesn't look sporty at all looks like R line not R
Tom please don't promote VW - their bad customer service is beyond a joke - I've been a VW owner & superfan for the last twenty years...but I've just got rid of my last ever liar-wagen!
Clarkson wannabe
David James nah, Clarkson wouldn't use shit music
This guy looks about 20 years old with a receding hairline like that.. not a good sign for your future. Sorry bro.
