received one yesterday (the green version!) approx 2 weeks delivery, initial impressions are very good, looking forward to playing with this one over the winter
Hi Simon, good review. I have one of these and I am amazed by it. I replaced the stock antenna with a Nagoya N771 antenna and I can speak to a friend of mine 10.3 miles as the crow flies, on VHF & UHF ham bands no problem! Hope to catch you on PMR again. Cheers. Steve de 26TM372.
Thanks! I was using the Retevis RHD-771 in part of the testing - seems to work great although Steve I was working with in the video seemed to think the stock antenna was better on 2m but it could have been down to conditions - we were pushing the limits of distance in the tests from his location. I love the TD-H3 for its compact size and it still manages to produce at least 4w on high power. Great value for the $30 or less!
Thank you! Yes, well worth the asking price. It's one of the best little radios I've used, totally feature packed and the bluetooth channel editing via the app is really cool.
A couple of things I'd like to see on the H8 would be AM Airband Reception and a proper signal meter - I know there is some unofficial firmware that can do this but would be great for Tidradio to release some official updates.
Thank you. It all depends if you need the AM airband on this model or the extra power on the TD-H8. It's a difficult one to call since they both have similar features. The USB-C programming with the built in chip is nice to have in this model but they both can use Bluetooth and the cloud based ODmaster software so that might not be the main consideration. All depends how you are going to use it! TD-H3 is more pocket sized.
Okay, great thanks for clearing that up. I have watched loads of videos on these radios. This is the only video that has gone into detail and convinced me that they are actually decent. The Chinese radios have come a long way since the early days.
Hmm, that's a difficult one to answer. The TD-H3 has more features in terms of bluetooth programming and a colour screen but the Quansheng UV-K6 has monochrome screen, however that can be easier to see outdoors and also there is the ability to install custom firmware such as egzumer that can add more frequencies and SSB reception, bandscope etc. They are both similar in terms of performance so it's hard choice to make. All depends on your preferences.. personally I think the TD-H3 is better build quality but both are great for the price.

Yep, great little radio for the money. I'm still using mine regularly.
Outstanding review- actual testing, not just unboxing and power output tests!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the test. I do try and show the products in actual use to give the user a better idea of what to expect.
The green is cool but i prefer the crystal.

Good video. I've been waiting for these radios to improve on the airband reception, seems like they are doing that. Bluetooth option also interesting.
I've done the firmware upgrade and airband is excellent
Got one a week ago Simon, what a cracking radio it is !
Nice radios, great demonstration. Wish they would upgrade the exact same features into the H8.

Just watching it now very informative. You may mention it later, but which is better this one or h8 thx

I guess ppl don't say "over" anymore... to indicate that a transmission is complete and to invite a response
Nice review. 73s
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! 🙂
Do you think i should get the tidradio tdh3 or the quansheng uvk6 ?

I don't think he will be buying one, he's more of a Quansheng man! 😉
