    "But i cant give up on that 5%"... Because enjoyment is not technical. Enjoyment is not based on measurements. Your increase in enjoyment is much higher than 5% with the Ananda over the Sundara. And that is why you could not place them in the box and place the Sundara on the table. This is the lesson we, as music enthusiasts, need to learn early on, and give a hefty volume of respect to. This is the first of your videos i have seen. I loved it. Beginning to end. New sub here. I am also an Ananda owner, as well, and agree with your statements about how "visceral" they are. I love the physical rumble effect they have (thanks for the Wizkid rec). Keep up the great work, Adam!

    Great video. I'll throw in my 2 cents since I've had the Sundara, Ananda and Arya. All 3 are great sounding headphones. I think the Ananda is worth double the price of the Sundara... but after listening to the Arya a few weeks.... I'm not sure they are worth double the Ananda. At $700... the Ananda could be the benchmark headphone in this price range. The Ananda used to be $1000... and now at $700 is a steal

    • @Reeeepicheep
      @Reeeepicheep 2 года назад +1

      Which is better value/headphone? (2 different questions lol): $599 Ananda (New) or $900 Arya (pre-owned, good condition, non-stealth)

    • @JTB--
      @JTB-- 2 года назад +2

      @@Reeeepicheep Those are both good values at those prices. It will come down to what sound preferences you have. I'm just a bigger fan of the Ananda sound signature for the music genre's I listen to like Rock,Hard Rock and Metal. But the Arya at that price is tempting if you trust buying a headphone used.

    • @Reeeepicheep
      @Reeeepicheep 2 года назад

      @@JTB-- I listen to a lot of Blutengel and they’re a kind of dramatic, thunderous darkwave group with big drums, and I wonder if they would sound thin on an Arya or have less slam/impact on an Ananda vs my Sundara. Wish there was a local shop where I could try out both before buying. Thanks for sharing your experience!

    • @JTB--
      @JTB-- 2 года назад +2

      @@Reeeepicheep Yeah it's tough not being able to listen to each headphone and decide. I was lucky to be able to get an Ananda and Arya on the same day to A/B test/compare them. I'm sure Amazon doesn't like me abusing their return policy... but it's the only way to really test out different headphones. The Arya are similar to the HD 800s in some ways imo and I own an HD 800s and what I use on it is a Schiit Lokius tone control/EQ which allows me to add some Bass, smooth the treble and basically play producer until I find the sound I'm looking for. Maybe before buying other headphones try a little EQ if you can. Because the Sundara already have some decent Bass, Punch and Slam that the other 2 might not in comparison. If you don't like using EQ... than the Ananda might be the one to try next. Because it's got the best sound signature right out of the box I've ever heard. If you choose Arya you will probably need to do a little EQ to get the sound you're looking for.

    • @Reeeepicheep
      @Reeeepicheep 2 года назад

      @@JTB-- I have the Lokius because I love EQ and it's great but I often find my peace program with Oratory EQ more than sufficient. So when I'm assessing between the Ananda and the Arya, it's not which headphone sounds better out of the box, it's which has the best performance potential for the music I like. I have the Bifrost 2, Lyr 3 multibit, modius, jotunheim 2, I worship schiit lol so all I need to do now is marry my setup with a flagship headphone. Since I can't afford a Meze Elite, I'm deciding between different Hifimans (Arya v2, arya stealth, ananda). Arya seems like the logical choice, but it's curious that many people like you and honest audiophile have preferred the Ananda.

    Wow, just discovered your youtube, after a week of purchase my Ananda (coming from HE400SE). I was thinking if I did the wrong choice on not getting the Sundara instead, but with your review I'm even happier with my purchase. BTW, the thing that I hate the most on my HE400SE is comfort, because I feel it's a bit small to my face and ears, and I feel the pressure on my head, also touching my ear lobes. In Ananda I feel a certain pressure in my jaws, but it's 200% more comfortable to me.

    I wish you reviewed more headphones. Your channel may focus on art and art education, but this review depicted how music sounded in both of these cans better than many I have seen from headphone reviewers, with those vids featuring master's degree-level dissertations of frequency curves, timbre, separation and imaging. The "whoa, oh shit" about "Mountain" and the "I couldn't give these up" segments are FAR more relatable to most consumers than examination of frequency curves. Well done.

       @Leandro Testa The Audeze to the Sundara? The LCD-2 is the better of the Audeze; it has a better bottom end and images better. The LCD-2 also images better than the Sundara, but it should. It's a much more expensive headphone. I now have the LCD-X coming and my understanding is that it doesn't image as well as the others in the LCD line-up but we'll see. I haven't heard the X yet but from their reputation as being a killer headphone. If so I am probably done buying more and more of them. One must cast the insanity aside at some point I'd think. LOL

    • @tomdavis6371
      @tomdavis6371 2 года назад

      @@Leantesta I did mention my other planars, but to answer as best I can: you can still find the EL-8 on the used market, sure. In some cases you can also find them factory sealed as NOS as I did in the summer of 2020 but while they are factory sealed Audeze won't honor a warranty period because the EL-8 has been discontinued for over 5 years. It was originally kind of intended as a mobile headphone, for what reason I can't fathom being that they are still large and open so they bleed. I wouldn't wear them outside unless just to sit and listen on my patio. It's a nice sounding headphone though if you like Audeze, and I do. But Audeze headphones benefit greatly from EQ so if you're not willing to do that I'd look elsewhere. Amazon has or had the EL-8 a while back from 3rd party sellers but those folks tend to ask unrealistic prices. And don't let them tell you they are under warranty because I got the info direct from Audeze.

    Andrew is his name or 'Resolve' as he is known online. Joshua Valour is renowned for his love affair with the Hifiman Arya which is identical in shape to the Ananda so he really gets on with the comfort of that headphone. I have both and with the Ananda, what seems like the perfect shape for the headphone cup actually turns out to be a bit of a cryptic puzzle to balance comfort with sound staging and imaging. I wear glasses also which makes my endeavors even more frustrating. To cut a long story short, if you like all genres of music, you need both ( still cheaper than an Arya or HE6 se ) as Rock and metal and more dynamic upbeat music sound better on the Sundara's whereas Classical, Jazz and some EDM and chill music sound better on the Anandas. Value for money it's the Sundara's all the way. Nothing and I repeat Nothing comes close to them anywhere near their price whereas the Anandas have plenty of competition from the likes of Focal with the Elex and Beyerdynamic with the T1.

    • @AbalMarius
      @AbalMarius 3 года назад

      Agree it is your old comment but surely sundara has no competition at ther selling price. What ever some say this is a fact. They are best buy and ananda in some areas ar better but as you said sundara even surpass them in other. So this tells how good sundara is. Sundara and ananda ofcourse needs good amp but this everyone knows before buying. So thanks for correct comment about sundara.

    • @MyouKyuubi
      @MyouKyuubi 2 года назад

      there's no such thing.
      But if you want something that can recreate the things you enjoy most about orchestral music, you should be asking specifics like "bass rumble" or "presence" or, like in this video "visceral", etc.
      Not to mention your ideal sound profile, what do you enjoy the most? Detail? If so, then you need headphones with a SOLID but maybe not overbearing boost in the treble frequencies... Are treble frequencies too harsh for you (some people are sensitive)? Then you're looking for a "Dark" headphone, etc, you kinda need to learn the lingo, and, the best people to give you an educated recommendation are the Audiophiles, of which, i am not, just fyi. :P
      Every fan of orchestral music, enjoy different aspects of orchestral music... Enjoyment is subjective... So there are no objective "orchestral headphones", such a thing, does not exist. :)

      the HE400se costs the same as a... Sennheiser Game One, or HD560s, or HD599, just something around the 200 dollar range.

      If you're going all in, money is no object, for a pair of consumergrade headphones (all-rounders for gaming and music and netflixin' etc, not professional use), then Meze Empyreans are the best choice that doesn't require an amplifier or a fancy setup... Though it is a VERY expensive headphone, but you get literalyl EVERY user-friendly feature with it, interchangeable parts in case something breaks, meaning those headphones are basically heirlooms, you can just order pieces to repalce whatever broke, they're also designed to be easy to dismantle and re-assemble, etc, you don't need to "send it in for repair" unless it's the planar magnetic driver itself that is broken. xD
      But if you just want to experience planar sound, getting something good, but, under a decent budget, Sundara's are THE go-to, best price-to-performance on the market.
