I wish I kept playing chess when I was younger. I was pretty good and I played in local tournaments and was winning against my age group (I was 11)up to highschool. I played the older gentleman that put on a lot of the tournaments. I was beating him and when I saw checkmate I was smiling very big and went to move my piece but he saw it too and swiped the board with his hand and cursed me for being too cocky. I never played a tournament again and told my mom I wanted to play basketball. Glad to see Kasparov had some respect and dignity.

Brings back memories… I beat the Australian chess champion when I was 10yrs old when he came to our school to teach the class chess and I was given the chess master as my opponent. He was totally shocked and shook my hand and told me to make sure I don’t waste my talent and that I should go into chess… proud moment for a kid that’s for sure but I didn’t and instead became a builder hehehe
