BothTom Jones and Celine Dion were so awed by John Farnham's vocal talents that they tried to persuade him to move to the U.S. to further his career.John decided against it, not wanting to uproot his family. He also stopped most of his touring abroad because he and his wife missed each other too much when apart. He even wrote a song about what it was like missing her so. I think it's called "Burn For You." So Australia got to keep John, which is why most of the rest of the world has missed out on hearing his amazing voice for all these years.
Yep thats my fav part, that look says it all.. Aside from the singing of course.. And yes John was "fan boying" for sure haha.. Who wouldn't its Tom Jones..
people say about this performance and rightly so that John was a tiny bit in awe of Tom and his magnificent voice, but when John is singing that high and long note, look at Tom's eyes, he is so impressed that, he is mentally preparing for his next turn, he doesn't want to stuff up either. I think there was equal respect going on here.
Amazing voice, and all round great bloke. A friend of mine is a roadie and years ago was working on a John Farnham show. He and a few other blokes were packing up some equipment afterwards, when a manager came out and asked them if they'd like some dinner. They said yes and expected to be handed a meat pie and a can of coke. Nope.. they were escorted to a room where they were sat at a table with a delicious cooked meal. Next minute, John Farnham walks in and sits at the table to join them for dinner and a chat ❤
My uncle helped record one of his concerts in the 80s(?) 90s(?), whichever, and said the same thing. He's a genuinely nice guy, happy to laugh at himself as much as the next bloke
John is so humble and self deprecating about his own talent. He was fan boying that night🤣. If you noticed, Tom gave John a huge impressed look of approval. Loved your unscripted bit 👏👏💕
John is awesome! A natural. Tom has a unique gift, too. And both delight in bringing their best out for people to enjoy. Not in trying to out-sing anyone.
Tom has both experience and capability in multiple genres. It's weird of you to think that someone -- like Tom, or John, or any artist -- who doesn't stay exclusively within one genre isn't allowed to come to the party and rock out.
This is about the only time I remember seeing John overawed by another singer. I remember seeing this on TV when it was broadcast. A Long Way to the Top is a much loved Aussie rock n roll song by the legendary AC/DC. Yes, they had bagpipes in the original.
I think John was just kidding around... that's his nature. Not to say he didn't admire Tom's vocal capabilities. Both were awed by each other and shared a great respect and friendship.

Hey hey it's Saturday was a TV show on Saturday night that most Aussie family tuned into. It was an incredibly funny show that had lots of talent appearing on it. Daryl summers was the host next to Tom and Molly meldrum next to John. Molly is the reason we have such a huge Australian music industry. John is just incredible. Aussie royalty 🇦🇺🪃
Molly was definitely a figure of fun on that show, and got the piss taken out of him mercilessly. But he is an incredibly important figure, not just in Australian music but around the world. He was hugely influential in giving early exposure to artists like ABBA, Madonna, Prince and even Michael Jackson when he went solo. Molly saw Madonna playing a crappy club in New York on the early 80s and invited her to come to Australia and be on COUNTDOWN. And he was calling Prince a genius from day one. So he was one of the very few people who could actually get an interview with Prince or Madonna. And that was partly because Molly only ever cared about the MUSIC. He didn't ask about personal stuff.

With your candid reactions to our beloved Aussie singers, you're fast becoming my favourite RUclipsr 😊 This song, Long Way to the Top, was originally written by Bon Scott, the lead singer of Aussie rock band AC/DC from 1974 until his death in 1980 aged just 32. Farnham and Jones sang a somewhat 'showbiz' version of the song for this gig, which was a TV awards show. TBH I prefer the musical style of the original, but it's a rare treat to hear two such great voices together.
I remember watching Hey Hey It's Saturday essentially as a weekly ritual, and I remember watching Tom & John on the night that this episode aired and being particularly impressed by how John was able to perform despite his nervousness of being right beside one of his absolute idols.

G'day from Australia. I love watching your videos and your reactions. Have really enjoyed experiencing your appreciation of our wonderful John Farnham. As mentioned in previous replies, he and the brilliant Tom Jones are singing a song by our Australian rock gods AC/DC.
My favourite thing about John is that he is such a great human. He's a proper gentleman and a larrikin, all at the same time, he's humble and down to earth. He could have been a global superstar, but he chose to stay close to his family.
That was so good. Thanks for the extra treat. John and Tom did do a series of concerts together after this. The first video shows John being totally caught off guard when he met Tom for the first time on a TV show in Melbourne. Pretty sure I remember watching this live on TV as a kid, and I also remember Johny on another time on his own and singing without any music...my goodness he was amazing
So glad I got to see John Farnham live in the 80s..it was around the 'Whispering Jack' era.. Just hit after hit after hit.. Outdoor concert.. Great memories.. You need to have a 'first look' at his 'anthem', 'You're the Voice' 😁
Oh and John is renowned for doing Mic tricks. He always throws them around, he used to swing them from their chords which the sound guys would yell at him for, so he switched to tossing the stand about the stage. If you watch his concerts then he usually tosses the stand at least once ... knowing we're all waiting for him to do it! 😉
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to recommend my yiddishe momme. Such an iconic moment. Anyway I'm gonna go back to listening to my john farnham records now...
This is the one I’ve been waiting for you to react to. It’s almost one of the most beautifully perfect vocal videos of all time. The look Tom gives John to say “yes you magnificent sunnavabitch” makes it so great. The second video at the Logies is just the cherry on the top.

Watched John and Tom sing this about 20 years ago, live on Australian TV(Hey Hey it’s Saturday) 100% unrehearsed and unplanned.
Pure bloody magic!
You need to hear John sing you will never walk alone. Amazing
That is one song I have never heard before from John and Tom, and a legendary Acca Dacca song to boot. I do remember watching Hey Hey and being overawed by them both.
Can't believe this is the first time you're hearing a younger Tom Jones. The restraint in his voice as he sings this old Yiddish song, is brilliant.
Excellent seeing these two together! We used to sing this song as 'It's a long way to the shop if you want a sausage roll' 🤣😂. Great reaction.
Pretty sure I remember watching this live on TV as a kid, and I also remember Johny on another time on his own and singing without any music...my goodness he was amazing
You know how many times I've watched this lol heaps. One of the best impromptu performances on tv ever in my opinion
One of my fave duets. They toured together too
John is just the most beautiful human being!!!!
I requested this a while back in your youtube comments - appreciate you looking at it. Magical piece of music.
I just love this two of my favourite singers
They did this AC/DC song on the concert tour they did together.
So glad I got to see John Farnham live in the 80s..it was around the 'Whispering Jack' era.. Just hit after hit after hit.. Outdoor concert.. Great memories..
You need to have a 'first look' at his 'anthem', 'You're the Voice' 😁
As an Aussie, OUR John can sing anything. He is a legend over here in Australia.
Remember watching John and Tom on Hey Hey when it aired but don’t recall the Logies. Thanks for sharing your joy. 🤩
I still remember when this was on TV.
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to recommend my yiddishe momme. Such an iconic moment. Anyway I'm gonna go back to listening to my john farnham records now...
That was amazing that you did the 2 videos - bloody fantastic 👍❤️🇦🇺
So glad someone requested this, I had planned to but didn't get around to it. I watched the show when it went to air & it was a special moment.
You're best reaction yet purely because it was an unexpected memory loved it. ❤🥰
About time someone reacted to this video my fav vid of Farnsay & Tommy Jones.
And what better person to react to than you!❤️🙏🏽👌🏽💯🔥
Saw it live on TV, I've been waiting for you to do this one
This is the one I’ve been waiting for you to react to. It’s almost one of the most beautifully perfect vocal videos of all time. The look Tom gives John to say “yes you magnificent sunnavabitch” makes it so great. The second video at the Logies is just the cherry on the top.
