      An SCR is a device that conduct electricity in one direction normally for DC circuits, whereas a Triac conducts in both directions. When gate voltage is applied, the device begins to conduct and the gate voltage can be removed. As long as there is voltage across the anodes. Once the voltage on the anodes reaches zero, the device shuts off and needs to be retriggerd again. Usually a triac also is used with a diac on its gate. A diac is a dual is a dual diode that can have an Resistor/capacitor combination on one end that will delay the turn on of the DIAC/TRIAC combo withing a given time period within the sine wave. This is normally used for light dimmers

    We don't have terminal boards inside the connection box on three phsse motors in America, just nine wires brought out from the internal part of the motor into the connection box located on the motor external. All nine wires hang individually loose within the connection box and are NOT connected when bought from the motor vendor. Six of the nine wires have their own number designation attached to them. The designation ranges from the number 4 thru the number 9. Each of the remaining three wires have their own designation as well. Those designations are T1, T2, and T3. Sometimes T1, T2, and T3 may just be labeled as 1, 2, and 3, not having the letter "T" attached. Again, the nine wires are connected in the field, inside of whatever piece of equipment/system of which they are a part. Three phase motors are built as multi-voltage motors in America. The two voltages are 230 volts 3 phase and 460 volts three phase. How the nine wires are connected is dictated by which voltage listed above is going to be applied to the motor AND whether the connections will be configured as Delta or Wye (Star). The connections within the motor connection box are all made using wire nuts and approved electrical tape, NO terminal boards. Also, the connection box is informally referred to as a "peckerhead" which is just jargon used in the skilled trades.

      How are 7,8, and 9 wired inside the motor. I am trying to visualize the inside of the motor. I understand 1 and 4 are 2 windings, 2 and 5 are 2 windings, and 3 and 6 are 2 windings making a total of 6 windings in the motor but when 7,8,9 wires are popping out of the motor I don’t understand how they are wired inside the motor.

  • @TheGodpharma
    @TheGodpharma 3 года назад +1

    If the star or delta connection is an option in any 3-phase motor, does this mean you can use either configuration in order to get higher or lower power output? This seems a bit odd to me, as I would have expected the motor design to be optimised for one or the other (but I am not an electrical engineer).

    • @TheGodpharma
      @TheGodpharma 3 года назад

      @@ciberiada01 Interesting. Since I posted that comment I saw another video about the star/delta switching systems that you mentioned. This apparently is intended to limit the huge inrush current that induction motors draw when initially powered (which will be lower with a star connection). Once it's up to speed it can be switched to delta for maximum power, without such a big current surge. Maybe that's the main reason for having the option available. I'm not sure I understand why a motor would be designed only for star connection though.
