I'm a 43 year old woman who self harmed from age 11 until last December. I've tried killing myself 5 times. I'm covered in scars, all over my body. I'm not ashamed of them. They're my warrior scars. I survived over 30 years of hurting myself and being suicidal, and overcame it. Life is still painful but I've become very strong and am proud of myself.
Thank you Citizen Soldier. Your music speaks to many of us who struggle.

Yep that line broke me. I have found CS only in a past few months or so and find most of their songs hit home but I thought I was doing okay with this - not too close to home, enjoying the song etc - that mentally I was doing better, but that one line made me realize I'm not as okay as I think I am

That quote is very true there are many out there who even in their youth get stuck in that terrible place in your mind that u feel will never ever end. People out there go through a lot feeling deppressed, trapped, unloved, unwanted, or even suicidal. Just that never ending cycle can tear someone to peices. Some people even just bottle things up and isolate themselves from socializing, doing daily regular things, feeling hopeless or no modivation to do anything, or even taking care of yourself. It is hard especially when u isolate yourself to a device like a computer, or phone to listen to songs that make u actually feel as if you're not alone.. And it's also very hard when family members put u off as lazy, ungreatful, selfish, or some kind of horrible name just because u are deeply depressed and no one helps.. I hope someone reads this and actually understands these things.. It hurts me to think the world has just gone cold. No one cares about your feelings or just assumes u are lazy, rude, or just plain fine when u need help most. Even if u try your best some find it not good enough and push u to do more. Or the never ending expectations from parents, or family members that digs u even deeper into the terrible emotions u feel. Especially when u actually try to talk to a loved one and they just say "You're just being dramatic." Or "U always have something wrong." But yet once u tell them "I'm suicidal" They finally listen after so long. But then still just don't understand.. And that's fine it's just if u weren't in that situation and someones trying to vent about their feelings u can't judge them! Or whoever u try and vent to (like a loved one) and they just put u down for it or make u feel as if you're a failure that doesn't belong.. And some people struggle with this and even no matter how hard they try still nothing changes.. Sometimes when people vent they tell their situations and then it seems as it finally went through once someone says " I've been through it too." And just as u get your hopes up they crush it all over again by doing the same awful things to u and not ever hearing u out.. Then u end up in therapy.. If no one else will care to listen nor put it to heart you're trying to explain yourself but it doesn't change.. But after a while it will. U just have to have hope and build your confidence! U can't sit there and let someone treat u bad or judge u for the situations others put u in. I've learned instead of sitting and letting people put u down u need to stand up and tell them u are human too!!! U ARE HUMAN TOO!! And no matter if they like it or not they can't control u nor tell u how to feel. It's just not worth all the pain not fighting back for yourself. And you may be wondering how I understand this.. But beleive it or not that was all I was put through and through my 12 years of living I've related to all Citizen Soldiers music and I will get past deppression soon! I'll remember this subject and take to heart for as long as I live!!! 😆💖
As a storyteller and avid music listener, this song speaks to me. I nearly ended my life in May because I was so lost and trying make everyone else happy. I came out of the ward, a new person. My past stays in the past and I am driven to make my mark on this world. There is more to life and there is help. Please keep writing that beautiful story.

Yes everyone's journey is different and everyone deserves to be heard, I've recently came out to my family as nonbinary and I get judged for what makes me uniquely me and its harder some days then others I try and seek out a positive from the day and that's getting harder

I used to hate my scars more than anything. I felt shame because I felt like that made me seem weak. But back in September I got my first tattoo a semicolon and god that tattoo has kept me clean it makes me feel like I’ve won my battles and I’m still here I’m still alive. With that knowledge I do my best to be there for people who are in that dark place like I have been. Having strength is hard but I have a purpose and that’s helping those who feel alone in the darkness 💜

This song hit me in the feels on a totally different level. My younger self from few years ago would've loved to hear these lines.
I learned not to look at my scars as a reminder of my weakness and sad days, but as a reminder of how low I fell and got back up. How strong I was to hold on and later even move on.

Every time I hear this man's vibrato, it gives me chills. The part at 3:24 is just so damn raw. The slight vocal fray, the sound of desperation, and the emphasis on the vibrato is so impressive. I wish I could do that myself, but for now, I'll simply get my heart broken by every song.

This song is so unbelievably beautiful, my goodness. It really resonates with me. It also makes me feel contradicted. Your guys' songs taught me how to be strong and how it's okay for me to be myself. And yet, this song made me cry in a way nothing ever made me do, and I could not be happier with it. This is where I am right now. Learning to love my mistakes and my wrong choices. God made me this way for a reason. To help someone else in the someplace I was.
An absolute tear jerker. No one really understands what happens behind closed doors and no one really cares to even be there when times get dark. I recently experienced this over the last several weeks as my mind has been thrown into a dark depression. Its a hole in my mind that gets harder and harder to climb out of. Citizen soldier has helped me in the darkest tomes of my depression. When i wanted to end it all the music and the lyrics were there and will always be there. Much love to all you guys in the band. To anyone out there struggling dont give up because there is a community out there that cares. Even if they dont wanna listen i will. Dont give up Fight The Good Fight. 🧡🧡

I really used to hate my scars so much cause my mom kept repeating that they’re bad. But this song made me love every single one of them because it’s true, my scars are what make me, me. And your scars are what make you, you. Now I look at them differently cause they make me who I am now and they tell all the hardships that came my way

I can't explain how much this song hurts. It honestly feels like what I've had gone through.
But I have no physical scars. Not purposeful scars. The scars I have are on my heart. They're invisible to everyone except me. And I feel like those are the worst kind. Because instead of physical pain, it's mental, and emotional pain.
I would have left a comment earlier if I hadn't replayed the song more times than I breathe. Watched the video and listened to this song so much already. Out of all the songs Citizen Soldier put out, this is my most relatable and my favorite. Listening to this for the first time, I started crying. My best friend sent me it and said it reminded him of me.. This song hits so close to home and honestly made me realize that the scars left over aren't something for me to be ashamed of but a story that shows that I've made it so far. I have had this song on repeat crying. I have never heard an artist make me feel so normal. And i just got my depression anxiety and ptsd semi under control and this song its empowers those. Not only did I listen to it and think i overcame my deppresion but I also used to be in an abusive relationship and I got out survived and now I am currently engaged to an amazing man. However this song hit my heart because every scar is proof i could have been dead and I survived and made it through to the other side. Keep up hope. I was ready to end it all tons of times but it IS something you can overcome! thank you Citizen Soldier because of you these songs are a life line to what I what through and for finally coming out on the other side. I couldnt have made it without the help of your songs and knowing i wasnt the only one feeling completely worthless
