my husband loves colored lights and it's rubbing off on me. your office looks awesome! i am going to buy a govee lamp soon, i can't wait. and now that i know about these pixel displays, i might need to get one! it would be fun to change the display for different calls 😄
Love these things, though not so much the standard Pixoo, while perfect for pure retro 16x16 characters, it's just too dim, not enough contrast, and the bezels are horrible. For a 16x16 I'll probably buy the Ditoo Pro Pixel Art Bluetooth Speaker with its retro PC design. On the flip side, as cool as the 64 is (and I'll likely end up with one at some point!) I find the sweet spot to be the Pixoo Max with its narrow bezels, bright display and good contrast. With the 64, you end up edging closer to a normal display, certainly from a distance, so for me it starts to deviate from the spirit of these things. What next, 128x128, 256x256? Just becomes a digital photo frame at that point. With the Pixoo Max and its 32x32 display, you are still in the realm of having large pixels that are blocky enough to do justice to retro, while lending themselves to a bit more detail if you want. Just depends what type of content you want to show, and nice to have that choice.
Great thoughts! I wonder if they’ll try to make them any bigger, like you’re saying. I think I’m with you. Any bigger and it starts becoming a digital photo frame 🖼️
FYI: You can change firmware on ULANZI and connect it to HomeAssistant After that you can display any data which you want plus animated icons. True. This is rather for more technical persons.
I just wanted to say the same thing as saba n. 😉 Just got my Ulanzi yesterday, flashed the Awtrix firmware and connected it to my Home Assistant. Works great! The Ulanzi is a very obvious chinese rip-off of the much too expensive LaMetric Time which you could have mentioned. 😉 I do have the Pixoo 64, too, and while it’s large and has the most pixels the options are quite limited. Basically you have several ready-made „apps“ and lots of graphics to display. But it really misses an API. There doesn’t seem to be a huge community or open source scene around it. No Awtrix firmware for the Pixoo (yet?). Well, maybe it’s just question of time. The Divoom Ditoo is cute, too, but again not very customisable, somehow limited. The Divoom displays can’t be used in Home Assistant (to my knowledge) or programmed otherwise which is a bummer. (Well, there IS an API and some GitHub projects but „the scene“ doesn’t seem to have taken it any further, write a new firmware so that the Divoom devices are more like the LaMetric Time configurable with „real“ apps.)
@@StefanWolfrum Thank you so much for commenting & sharing your knowledge of this! It’s really cool that you can program the Ulanzi clock differently & it work so well. YES, I should’ve included LaMetric Time! Good call out.

I don't have the Divoom Pixoo but I have their Tivoo. The battery was terrible (15 mins). All batteries were seemingly sold with no circuit protection judging by a few user reviews, so it ran a risk of fire, sparking up or damage unless you swapped the non removable battery for a high quality one (if you could a protected 18650 li-ion 2500mah). Although there was literal weight in the product (which suggested quality) I could not trust it. The white pixels had a bluish tone. The speaker was acceptable in playing music from it's sd card or from a phone despite the delay, it's non digital radio poor. Yet it had a decent app in being able to create your own art and showing the latest user art (although a lot of art looked suspect, many automated photos to pixel). For all this alone I would probably sway away from the Pixoo
@@natefromhome To be fair it does still work, I just can't give it away in confidence. They seem to have pulled all tivoo products from the official page. An official post eventually suggested not to use a modern charger, which might have come too late for some. Perhaps their other products aren't as bad, but using cheap batteries or a manufacturer that doesn't conform to safety standards elsewhere (if true) might be a worry.
I am thinking about, buying one. But I read some comments, that the 64 version sometimes just freezes on the loading screen and that u have to replace the sd card and this happens again and again and one time nothing works and so the device doesn't work anymore....so i'm not sure if i should buy one if it won^t even function properly for at least 2-3 years :/
Totally understandable, I have only owned the Pixoo 64 for about 7-8 months so I’m not sure how well it’ll last for 2-3 years time. I haven’t had to replace the SD card yet though, so I’m grateful for that. Maybe if you catch it on a great sale it’ll be worth the risk? If mine runs into any issues, I’ll follow up and let you know 👏🏼

Hi! That is a great question. I personally wouldn’t choose the Pixoo 64 to post messages like you’re describing. I think the app is just too convoluted and it could be frustrating to update on the go. I think the Tidbyt’s app would handle it better, but the Tidbyt isn’t as big so it may not offer as much visibility from far away. I think we need a LARGE Tidbyt haha.
