Correct, the Gen 1 doesn’t have sound unfortunately. I think the Gen 2 definitely adds some much needed features, but I’m with you… I’ll miss the wood case 🥲
Just got a gen 1 today for my birthday. I'm loving it. Weird that they ditched the wood casing for gen 2 because I thought that was a big part of the retro charm. I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to displays. Will this still feature the individual light modules or have they changed it to an LCD screen that mimics the appearance of the original? From the photos, it looks like the latter, but I could be wrong.
Happy belated birthday! That’s an awesome gift. I agree, the wood casing is one of my favorite features of Gen 1. So I think that this will still have individual lights, but it looks like it’s going to have a clear covering over the front. The pixels are supposed to be easier to read up close though 🤔. I’m excited to test it out!
I love the look of the gen 1 and definitely want to get one however since plastics are a huge issue for our planet, if the gen 2 is made from recycled plastics or repurposed plastics removed from the oceans im all over it. The beeps and boops and plastic looking feel are not enough to interest me in the gen 2. If the plastic is recycled or if it came in wood it would be great
As others have pointed out, I feel like they have made some massive sacrifices in the name of mass production or profit maximization or something. I can’t grasp dropping the wood, and putting the plastic cover over the pixels. Both of those just…really stink. Someone else mentioned it, but that’s 1000% a no go for me too. If they bring out the wood, that’s great, but otherwise, I may also just wait for Gen 3 or buy a discounted Gen 1. I hope they succeed, but I have to imagine a lot of people liked it for the retro vibe that they’re throwing away.

Totally agree man, losing the wood finish is a HUGE bummer. Like you said, I hope the Gen 1 gets a nice discount when the Gen 2 arrives.
