I suppose we all have our favorite conductors, but in the 55 years that I have been listening to Schubert's music, Gardiner is the first conductor of The Great whose orchestra's instruments don't achieve a resonance that I have grown fond of hearing for play of the symphony, and that because his pace is too fast.
