I like the tool. Shame I have no lathe.. Anyway, petrol fumes are likely to be caused by the fuel tank breather pipes. There's a thing called the "Club Mod" which entails altering the tank breather system. May also be the carbs - Webber / Dellortos have open to the atmosphere float chambers, and fuel evaporates from them over a period of time (no fix for this I'm afraid).

Thx Jon. I think your right about the breathers. The petrol smell did seem to come from the vents in the c pillars. Do you have any details of the 'club mod'?

I replaced the tubes but didn't cross them over the tank and up the 'C' posts. I assume the reason for crossing them over was to stop fuel leaking out if you roll the car but if I've done that then I probably have more problems. I think a better solution is to vent into the fuel filler & that will be my plan next time I have to tackle the fuel system. Filling the tank with the current setup is always slow, as it vents so poorly.
