I've seen people complain about how "Honey Queen took Waluigi's spot." I don't know, with Mario, Luigi, Wario and Metal Mario being the only characters in the MK7 roster to say their names when selected, for me, it was Metal Mario who gave those "replaced Waluigi" vibes. I actually don't mind Honey Queen's inclusion at all. Galaxy was an amazing game!
That's actually my exact train of thought for who replaced waluigi, not to mention Honey Queen was there to fit a heavy weight female besides Rosalina, Metal Mario is there for a heavy weight male, and not to mention that's he's only a Mario palette swap, MM was definitely the one who took Waluigi's spot

Nobody in particular "stole Waluigi's slot" in MK7, Nintendo just kinda forgot to include him with the others for some reason.
If the next Mario Kart game is a crossover racing game, I hope GWallPro sees it for what it is and not because of his dislike / bias against crossovers. Plus it'd bring in so many more people who might have never played or liked Mario Kart, but now they do because their favorite character is in the game (and also it means more money for Nintendo).
Not only that but Diddy has outright replaced Jr since he even replaced him in DKC1 and the timing of Diddy’s debut alongside Rare being bought by Microsoft at the time it may have to do with that since Rare had a hold on the DK characters aside for DK himself
It's a quality over quantity thing. Even though I like The Koopalings, the fact they take up 7 character slots, which could've been used for more unique characters, is the biggest turn off. And personally I don't mind Link and the Villagers, but they just don't add that much value to the roster as a whole.

Double Dash is probably my favorite roster given the time it came out, it was mind blowing at the time. Would love to see some content discussing which games feature the best karts/bikes too since a lot of people feel like the move towards kart customization watered it down some.

I dont like them either because they take the spots of Mario characters that never had the chance to be playable. Mario is my favorite Nintendo Franchise and it kinda sucks to see characters that I dont really care about / have a connection to take away spots from actual Mario, DK or Wario characters that could be such a cool inclusion.

My opinion is never the correct opinion, as I'm just one guy. I personally do not like crossover characters in Mario Kart (Pac-Man in the arcade games being the lone exception) because they always stick out like a sore thumb. As for Tour, I understand it has the dumbest character unlock process out of any Mario Kart game, but I can't emphasize the point enough that even without every single alternate costume and Mii outfit, there are still hidden gems in that game, such as Monty Mole, Hammer Bro, Dixie Kong, King Bob Omb, Chargin Chuck, Nabbit, Meowser, DK Jr, Poochy, Captain Toad, and Dr. Mario. All of whom are not in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe whereas every character from MK8 Deluxe is in Tour except for the crossover ones. That's how I primarily based my rankings between the two games so I apologize if I didn't explain more of that in the video. I completely understand all of your points though and I'm excited for what future Mario Kart rosters are going to look like! Also Gold Dry Bowser is incredible you cannot convince me otherwise 😂

It just feels weird to make non Mario characters have higher priorities than actual unique Mario characters in a Mario game. It almost feels disrespectful to me to the Mario series, as if it’s not good enough or like ‘nothing’ and therefore needs other IP’s to be part of the games. Diddy and Funky are literally part of the Mario universe due to their connection to Donkey Kong wtf are you on about. Also Diddy Kong has been in plenty of Mario games, so I don't know how you got the idea that he somehow has never appeared in a Mario game. He's been in many Mario Party games, Mario Strikers, the Mario Baseball games, Mario Tennis, and Mario Golf just to give some examples.

For me, Mario Kart Wii will always be a 10 out of 10 roster for me in terms of modern Mario Kart. It's super diverse, Baby Peach and Daisy aside, we got wild card characters like Funky Kong, who had never been in a Mario game before then, Dry Bowser, who had only appeared in New Super Mario Bros for the DS., and Rosalina from Galaxy, who looks a bit different from Peach and Daisy making her first appearance as well. I'd also count Mii Outfits A and B, giving Miis their first appearance as well. I just wish Mii Outfit B made its way into future games instead of the standard and amiibo racing suits.

Kinda nitpicking here, but Mario Kart Super Circuit has three additional characters: Red Yoshi, Light Blue Yoshi and Yellow Yoshi, although they are only available in single pak multiplayer (like the shy guys in DS). There's also the Bomb Kart in 64 and Super Circuit but imo they don't really count.

It's a shame they haven't brought Tony Soprano Circuit back yet. It, along with Boston Building, are two of the most beloved tracks in Mario Kart history, and it's honestly shameful how bad Nintendo is treating them.

Great video! I think 7's roster was brought down by what was lacking rather than what was had. I don't mind Honey Queen just for the Galaxy representation, but there were other options (Lubba). And MK8 is easily one of my most mixed rosters. The Koopalings were good additions, and I surprisingly don't hate Baby Rosalina, but it also introduced two of the worst characters in the series (Pink Gold Peach and )

I like to think of each of the numbers as tiers, so there's some range within each number that helps me determine which game goes where. If I was directly ranking the games then BCP would absolutely be above Wii. But I completely see your point. Hope you enjoyed the video regardless!

Hi, I‘m a bit late to the party, but I saw this video and heard that you‘re still playing Mario Kart Tour, and so am I! And in the Halloween tour I‘ll finally be able to say that I have every character (besides 40+ mii outfits)! My 5 year old younger me would be very proud I think xd that‘s just something I wanted to share here

I really like the mystery behind DK Jr, and his rarity makes him more interesting to me. I don't necessarily like Kamek more than DK, but I think Kamek would've made for a better character in MK64 than DK simply because it was coming off the heels of Yoshi's Island. Though I can also understand the point of DK's inclusion being due to the success of Donkey Kong Country. Very close call honestly but I'm curious of the butterfly effect that would've happened with future rosters if Kamek remained as playable in MK64!
Mario Kart Tour is eligible because unlike the Arcade Games, Nintendo considers it part of the mainline series which is why they included it's tracks and characters in the DLC
The only reason you put Mario Kart Tour in tier 10 is because it has so many characters. Lots of characters doesn't automatically mean quality, but that's how I personally see it.
Not only does Tour have so many characters, but if you weed out all the alt costumes and Mii outfits, the quality characters that are in Tour but not MK8 Deluxe include Monty Mole, Hammer Bro, Dixie Kong, King Bob Omb, Chargin Chuck, Nabbit, Meowser, DK Jr, Poochy, Captain Toad, and Dr. Mario. In addition to every Mario character from 8 Deluxe also being in Tour, in my humble opinion, I feel like it's enough to push it to that elusive 10/10 ranking for me. you literally described 8 deluxe roster dude. largest roster in console games but it's filled with clones, guests and BCP characters have lower quality models. Tour has a lot of skins but it also has almost every Mario veteran ever + some of the most unique choices in the series like Poochy or King Bobomb

King Boo, Funky Kong, Diddy Kong, Dry Bowser, Bowser Jr., Birdo and Dry Bones are some of my favorite characters. That’s why Mario Kart Wii’s roster is amazing to me.
I think the crossover DLC in MK8 was kind of warranted given how bad the Wii U was doing at the time. Now we could've got other past racers as DLC but I think money was the driving factor in picking Link and Isabelle, two characters from HUGE franchises. Heck, even Mercedes DLC was added because Nintendo probably got paid for that by Mercedes. If the next game is a crossover game, I hope GWallPro sees it for what it is and not because of his dislike / bias against crossovers.
He said he'd rather have Mario and Luigi in 10 different costumes than playing as other Mario characters like Wario or Daisy so yeah, he has a really weird taste. Now talking about more "normal" people, I get that if you're playing Mario Kart you want Mario characters. And I agree that I wouldn't want a Mario kart game with half or more of the roster not being Mario characters because at that point just name it Smash Bros Kart or Nintendo Kart. But this isn't the case in Mario kart 8 and deluxe, there are just a couple of crossover characters and they're really cool and popular ones. To me is just people that complains because they can't play as a specific Mario character that only a few care about. Not that I wouldn't enjoy those characters being in the game but it just feels dumb to think it's the crossover ones fault they're not included. If they really wanted or though it was a good idea to include blooper or monty mole they would've done it since the beginning like they have included every single koopaling.
Mario kart 64 ans super circuit are the only 2 Mario karts with no weird picks or filler. All 8 at the time were importent or popular. Litteraly must haves.

Mario Kart Wii has a 10/10 roster and the best in the series to this day (in my opinion). While the BCP has all the same characters and more, it’s the quality that counts over the quantity at least for me. I’m really not a fan of characters like Pink Gold Peach, Peachette and Baby Rosalina. I would definitely give more credit to Mario Kart DS’s roster because it has pretty much all the characters you would expect plus Dry Bones and R.O.B., so it gets an 8/10 for me.
Now the only one left is Mario Party! There *could* also one for the mainline Mario games, but it would be really boring since the only games that aren't just Mario or Mario and Luigi are SMB2, New Soup Wii, U, 3D World and Wonder (also Galaxy 2 if you count the co-star luma)

I give MK8DX a 0/10 solely because of the wasted character slots lol. Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, Metal Mario, Pink Gold Peach, and Peachette should have been dropdowns or palette swaps for Mario and Peach, because that's 5 wasted slots that should have gone to characters that actually deserve to be in the game. I will never not be mad that ROB hasn't returned since MKDS!
MK8 roster at launch was a 1/10 roster for me. Quantity and Laziness really described this character roster. Characters no one asked for, no one wanted, and choices that didn’t make sense. Thankfully it took 9 years to make this a 9/10 imo 😅😂

I would say you also have to think about rating these characters more public wise than personal wise I know you may not like certain characters or think that the alternate versions should not to be in the game but if you think about how far the character has come I think that's why they did it for instance peach we all know she was always the damsel in distress since the beginning but then since the other games came out super smash Bros Mario 3D world they made a good example how far she made it and I'm pretty sure the creators just wanted to put that image inside the game I think the same sort of story goes for the other characters like Link and the villagers but I do believe that they shouldn't have been added I believe if they wanted them to be realized they should have done something in their own games to catch their fans attentions
I completely understand where you’re coming from. That being said, however, I personally believe that a video is more unique and personable to that specific creator if they expressed their own feelings and opinions on a character instead of taking the overall public opinion, because then everyone would have the same list. If I truly wanted a public opinion I would poll my audience and show off the results in a video, which I have done numerous times on my channel! Creators voicing their own opinion regardless of what the public thinks is what makes ranking videos so fun to watch. I appreciate you watching this video!
Okay while yeah I have the same problem as others with wii vs 8D, I'm gonna defend the way you seem to view crossover characters. I noticed you enjoyed ROB and the DQ characters (from the sports video), but disliked the 8D ones, and I think it's because the older ones felt like cool obscure nods (ok maybe dragon quest isn't obscure but you get the idea. more obscure than the usuals) vs advertisements. The older ones were also fanservice picks for gaming audiences notably older than the usual target audience. Believe me, I was right there being a kid wondering what a ROB was, or who those wild looking characters were at the end of sports mix. It got me to look out and discover more about gaming. The 8D ones are just "Buy Breath of the Wild. Buy Animal Crossing New Leaf. Buy Splatoon 2."

I dont like them either because they take the spots of Mario characters that never had the chance to be playable. Mario is my favorite Nintendo Franchise and it kinda sucks to see characters that I dont really care about / have a connection to take away spots from actual Mario, DK or Wario characters that could be such a cool inclusion.

My opinion is never the correct opinion, as I'm just one guy. I personally do not like crossover characters in Mario Kart (Pac-Man in the arcade games being the lone exception) because they always stick out like a sore thumb. As for Tour, I understand it has the dumbest character unlock process out of any Mario Kart game, but I can't emphasize the point enough that even without every single alternate costume and Mii outfit, there are still hidden gems in that game, such as Monty Mole, Hammer Bro, Dixie Kong, King Bob Omb, Chargin Chuck, Nabbit, Meowser, DK Jr, Poochy, Captain Toad, and Dr. Mario. All of whom are not in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe whereas every character from MK8 Deluxe is in Tour except for the crossover ones.
That's how I primarily based my rankings between the two games so I apologize if I didn't explain more of that in the video. I completely understand all of your points though and I'm excited for what future Mario Kart rosters are going to look like!

@@GWallPro I might not agree with you on the gold variant ones being cool or that you would rather have only Mario & Luigi in dozent different costumes than actual different characters like Wario, DK etc but I definitely get the distaste for crossover characters. It just feels weird to make non Mario characters have higher priorities than actual unique Mario characters in a Mario game. It almost feels disrespectful to me to the Mario series, as if it’s not good enough or like ‘nothing’ and therefore needs other IP’s to be part of the games. I’m sure if we would replace or include Mario characters randomly into Zelda or Metroid etc people who love those franchises would also be kind of like ‘’wtf?’’ because it just sucks that they take spots from actual cool characters from their respective series away.

Also Diddy Kong has been in plenty of Mario games, so I don't know how you got the idea that he somehow has never appeared in a Mario game. He's been in many Mario Party games, Mario Strikers, the Mario Baseball games, Mario Tennis, and Mario Golf just to give some examples.

For me, Mario Kart Wii will always be a 10 out of 10 roster for me in terms of modern Mario Kart. It's super diverse, Baby Peach and Daisy aside, we got wild card characters like Funky Kong, who had never been in a Mario game before then, Dry Bowser, who had only appeared in New Super Mario Bros for the DS., and Rosalina from Galaxy, who looks a bit different from Peach and Daisy making her first appearance as well. I'd also count Mii Outfits A and B, giving Miis their first appearance as well. I just wish Mii Outfit B made its way into future games instead of the standard and amiibo racing suits.
I know I like the outfits in the Wii version they should’ve kept them not a fan of the new outfits

Kinda nitpicking here, but Mario Kart Super Circuit has three additional characters: Red Yoshi, Light Blue Yoshi and Yellow Yoshi, although they are only available in single pak multiplayer (like the shy guys in DS). There's also the Bomb Kart in 64 and Super Circuit but imo they don't really count.

Great video! I think 7's roster was brought down by what was lacking rather than what was had. I don't mind Honey Queen just for the Galaxy representation, but there were other options (Lubba). And MK8 is easily one of my most mixed rosters. The Koopalings were good additions, and I surprisingly don't hate Baby Rosalina, but it also introduced two of the worst characters in the series (Pink Gold Peach and )

I like to think of each of the numbers as tiers, so there's some range within each number that helps me determine which game goes where. If I was directly ranking the games then BCP would absolutely be above Wii. But I completely see your point. Hope you enjoyed the video regardless!

And in the Halloween tour I‘ll finally be able to say that I have every character (besides 40+ mii outfits)! My 5 year old younger me would be very proud I think xd that‘s just something I wanted to share here

I really like the mystery behind DK Jr, and his rarity makes him more interesting to me. I don't necessarily like Kamek more than DK, but I think Kamek would've made for a better character in MK64 than DK simply because it was coming off the heels of Yoshi's Island. Though I can also understand the point of DK's inclusion being due to the success of Donkey Kong Country. Very close call honestly but I'm curious of the butterfly effect that would've happened with future rosters if Kamek remained as playable in MK64!
Mario Kart Tour is eligible because unlike the Arcade Games, Nintendo considers it part of the mainline series which is why they included it's tracks and characters in the DLC
The only reason you put Mario Kart Tour in tier 10 is because it has so many characters. Lots of characters doesn't automatically mean quality, but that's how I personally see it.
Not only does Tour have so many characters, but if you weed out all the alt costumes and Mii outfits, the quality characters that are in Tour but not MK8 Deluxe include Monty Mole, Hammer Bro, Dixie Kong, King Bob Omb, Chargin Chuck, Nabbit, Meowser, DK Jr, Poochy, Captain Toad, and Dr. Mario. In addition to every Mario character from 8 Deluxe also being in Tour, in my humble opinion, I feel like it's enough to push it to that elusive 10/10 ranking for me. I think the crossover DLC in MK8 was kind of warranted given how bad the Wii U was doing at the time. Now we could've got other past racers as DLC but I think money was the driving factor in picking Link and Isabelle, two characters from HUGE franchises. Heck, even Mercedes DLC was added because Nintendo probably got paid for that by Mercedes. If the next game is a crossover game, I hope GWallPro sees it for what it is and not because of his dislike / bias against crossovers.

Now talking about more "normal" people, I get that if you're playing Mario Kart you want Mario characters. And I agree that I wouldn't want a Mario kart game with half or more of the roster not being Mario characters because at that point just name it Smash Bros Kart or Nintendo Kart.
But this isn't the case in Mario kart 8 and deluxe, there are just a couple of crossover characters and they're really cool and popular ones.
To me is just people that complains because they can't play as a specific Mario character that only a few care about.
Not that I wouldn't enjoy those characters being in the game but it just feels dumb to think it's the crossover ones fault they're not included.
If they really wanted or though it was a good idea to include blooper or monty mole they would've done it since the beginning like they have included every single koopaling.
I personally love Lakitu, mainly because of my headcanon that he is the younger brother of the Lakitu that saves you if you fall off the track

Mario Kart Wii has a 10/10 roster and the best in the series to this day (in my opinion). While the BCP has all the same characters and more, it’s the quality that counts over the quantity at least for me. I’m really not a fan of characters like Pink Gold Peach, Peachette and Baby Rosalina. I would definitely give more credit to Mario Kart DS’s roster because it has pretty much all the characters you would expect plus Dry Bones and R.O.B., so it gets an 8/10 for me.

MK8 roster at launch was a 1/10 roster for me. Quantity and Laziness really described this character roster. Characters no one asked for, no one wanted, and choices that didn’t make sense. Thankfully it took 9 years to make this a 9/10 imo 😅😂

Shy Guy and Link are my favorite Mario kart characters.
I would say you also have to think about rating these characters more public wise than personal wise I know you may not like certain characters or think that the alternate versions should not to be in the game but if you think about how far the character has come I think that's why they did it for instance peach we all know she was always the damsel in distress since the beginning but then since the other games came out super smash Bros Mario 3D world they made a good example how far she made it and I'm pretty sure the creators just wanted to put that image inside the game I think the same sort of story goes for the other characters like Link and the villagers but I do believe that they shouldn't have been added I believe if they wanted them to be realized they should have done something in their own games to catch their fans attentions
I completely understand where you’re coming from. That being said, however, I personally believe that a video is more unique and personable to that specific creator if they expressed their own feelings and opinions on a character instead of taking the overall public opinion, because then everyone would have the same list. If I truly wanted a public opinion I would poll my audience and show off the results in a video, which I have done numerous times on my channel! Creators voicing their own opinion regardless of what the public thinks is what makes ranking videos so fun to watch. I appreciate you watching this video!

Okay while yeah I have the same problem as others with wii vs 8D, I'm gonna defend the way you seem to view crossover characters. I noticed you enjoyed ROB and the DQ characters (from the sports video), but disliked the 8D ones, and I think it's because the older ones felt like cool obscure nods (ok maybe dragon quest isn't obscure but you get the idea. more obscure than the usuals) vs advertisements. The older ones were also fanservice picks for gaming audiences notably older than the usual target audience. Believe me, I was right there being a kid wondering what a ROB was, or who those wild looking characters were at the end of sports mix. It got me to look out and discover more about gaming. The 8D ones are just "Buy Breath of the Wild. Buy Animal Crossing New Leaf. Buy Splatoon 2."
