I moved out of Baton Rouge thirty years ago after being scammed by a BR cop. In partnership with a crooked lawyer, he made a biased accident report and sent the other driver and passengers to the lawyer. My insurance settled without talking to me. My insurance explained the whole scam to me and raised my premium $300. Before I sold my house I had a plumber do some work, and he told me that the same thing had happened to him.

Baton Rouge is an absolute dump. I can't wait to get out of here. Most people here are extremely nice but constant crime everywhere overrides this. Can't even go out to my old favorite bars anymore because of shootouts happening all the time. @@JakeKoenig I was particularly miserable the day I posted this because my windshield got cracked on I-12 for the second time in 2 weeks lol but so yall don’t think I’m just hating Ill list some reasons why I wouldn’t move here, especially if you come from the NE (NJ specifically for me). The first one is a pretty obvious one, it is too damn hot and humid for too long here. Give me cold winter days please instead of a year long summer. Second, I’ve found it particularly hard to meet people and I like to think I’m pretty social and friendly. To be fair, COVID hit 1.5 years into living here so that certainly didn’t help but even so, it’s been tough. I don’t belong to any religious organizations and I really think that’s why I’ve found meeting people so difficult. Who knows? My last and major one is that, unless you hunt or fish AND (this is a my major point on this topic) OR know someone who hunts or fishes down here with a boat and land or a lease on a camp, there’s nothing to do outside here. BREC parks are cool for awhile but they quickly lose their luster when it’s 100 and 70% humidity outside. Fishing the BREC ponds gets old quick too. I found the NE to have lots more publicly accessible land, with more trail systems and activities. Also, there aren’t any really nice beaches anywhere nearby unless you drive to Florida or wanna risk hopping in the disgusting gulf. But have fun with the traffic at the height of the season. Anyway, apologies for the essay, I felt I at least owed an explanation as my time here hasn’t been completely miserable like that post makes it appear.

The traffic is mind-boggling.. Nicest people in the country, but the traffic is next level horrendous. Coming from a metroplex, Louisiana is just a slower pace. If you're used to dealing with very driven professionals, being the best, that is not here. We take things slow. There is a reason everyone says "laissez les bon temps rouler" (let the good times roll). Also, "Baton Rouge" is just a city, about 220,000 people, and takes up a relatively small area. "East Baton Rouge" is the parish ('county' to the rest of the country) - but outsiders and even some locals will just reference "Baton Rouge" when actually talking about the entire region. This is much the same as people say "Dallas", but in reality there's 8-10 cities inside what most consider Dallas (Richardson, Plano, Garland, etc.) There are 5 cities inside East Baton Rouge parish. Baton Rouge, Zachary, Central, Baker, and the newest city St. George which incorporated 5 years ago but was involved in legal battles with the Baton Rouge city proper. The 5 cities make up East Baton Rouge Parish but are often just lumped in as "Baton Rouge". Each of these cities has its own government and lifestyle so make sure to do research about which city you'll be in if deciding to move to the area. Crime is a definite problem, but the violent crime is mostly confined to the Baton Rouge city limits, especially north Baton Rouge. The further you get from the Mississippi the less the crime typically. Traffic is terrible. You will not regret it. And if you have kids and are relatively concerned with their education, consider the surrounding parishes Ascension & Livingston. Their public school districts are head and shoulders above the East Baton Rouge parish school district. You will not regret doing so. If you must stay in East Baton Rouge parish, consider one of the other cities with their own school system like Zachary or Central. These districts are consistently ranked top in Louisiana, while the Baton Rouge district is near the bottom. If you know the history, you would know that when they change the drinking age from 18 to 21 Louisiana was one of the states that didn’t want to change it with that. The federal government threaten states to the point where if they didn’t change the law, they will not get any help with roadwork was the last to change it, do research
Baton Rogue native here. No, don’t move to BR.
I’m from Houma but I live in Hammond La the traffic is crazy I just leave an hour early and probably don’t go to ScotlandVille 😅
Hammond Ponchatoula Mandeville are the best places in this state. Everywhere else has either crime or. Draconian police responses and abject poverty and drug use has made everyone I've met in ascension parish into the worst people. Can't stand it here. Pomchatoula was a great place to grow up
I like slower pace. ❤
Same here!
The best thing about BatonRouge is the blue store .
You already know 💯💯💯💯💯😂😂

We are 50 years behind the rest of the country
In what ways?
@@Bayoubebelet's see: politics, education, socio-economic progression, roads...

I love the Cheesecake Bistro in Baton Rouge.
Also should have covered education and pollution.
Airline hwy.
Moved here a few years ago and the only reason I'm still here is I found my future wife otherwise I'd have left this place sucks and the drivers are the worst
#1 reason you should not move to BR: Lafayette is better 🤪
The video should have Baton Rouge changed to just Louisiana in general. Entire state is garbage with growing crime rates all over, the highest poverty in the country and the lowest education in the country. Pair that with the weather, it’s amazing people stay there.
If im being honest. Its not the worst. Just stay out the areas that a white person wouldnt stay more than 5 mins in. Im definitely gtf when im able to.
Its really annoying listening to everyones opinions on politics. It happens everywhere 🤦♂️
I was born and raised here 😭
Been here my whole life, 30 years. Give me Alabama #RollTide
This is home, this place sucks.
You just lost 20 house sales 😂😂😂😂
lol! Maybe 😅 Not everyone likes BR though! Same for any city
U must really not wanna sell houses in baton rouge lol...I live in West baton rouge, it's a little weird how your job depends on selling houses and you literally just said the bad points and had nothing good to say, who would wanna move here now? I have my doubts u really sell houses here....who would sabotage their own livelihood like this.
Hey Tonya! I understand where you're coming from. It would be disingenuous for me to paint Baton Rouge as perfect and perfect for everyone. We do have traffic issues, we aren't very walkable, we do have insurance issues, we do have bugs/termites, hurricanes happen, the weather isn't for everyone etc.etc.etc. I don't think any of those things are unfair to say. If I was moving from a different area and my realtor didn't mention any of these things, I'd feel that they are more of a "salesperson" vs an actual advisor helping them make the best decision for themselves. I actually thoroughly enjoy living here and have helped several people relocate to the area. I hope you understand where I'm coming from. I recommend checking out my other videos!
It’s nothing to do in Baton Rouge
If white move to St. George.
Political corruption
Baton Rouge suck for sure
