I honestly love the amount of effort KBS is putting in exposing other culture to the korean audience. They're recognizing that racism is an issue in Korea and I think this is one of the best ways to introduce other cultures and other people to a country as homogenous as South Korea. They're neither sugarcoating nor exaggerating anything and are trying to do away with stereotypes people have about other races and I really respect them for that.
i actually agree with you on these, south Korea is really a nice place to visit but because of stereotypes that why it will be difficult to improve in terms of culture
This show isn’t born out of the fact that “racism is an issue in Korea” (which it surely is like in any other country) and KBS feels the need to educate them.Rather, Korean people love finding humanity in people culturally and ethnically different from them and are curious about foreigners. This show is to satisfy that curiosity. Korean people may be all about “Korea this and Korea that” superficially, but most don’t have a deep, genuinely-held ethnocentrism that makes them think that people from other cultures are genuinely different from them and inherently inferior. That’s actually more prevalent among Japanese people, in my experience-ironic, since they have a reputation for being “less racist” than Koreans. And frankly, this idea that Koreans are uniquely racist is indeed, a stereotype, in and of itself.
@@nicol.7738 Ofcourse not all koreans are racist. I'm pretty sure there must be many who welcome people of different cultures with open arms. But it still doesn't hide the fact that there's a lot of racism that happens to foreigners and Cultural Appropriation that has always been and still is prevalent in Kpop and the Korean Entertainment Industry. Also, there have been many times where they show foreigners especially POC in a very stereotypical and negative light. And, these things can probably lead to some koreans developing a stigma against foreigners and being racist. And, I just want to say this that I've been told by some koreans themselves that racism is prevalent in South Korea. Especially in the South Korean Entertainment Industry. But, indeed I know that not each and every Korean is racist but from what I've seen a bunch of them or even a majority sadly are.
I really respect her parents. Adopting a daughter from another country and to add to that she was 10 years old is not as common as if you were to adopt a baby. My favourite episode so far.
@@hayrunisa9285 the family could have had problems like financial problems etc and couldn't raise her properly so that maybe why they put her for adoption until they have secured their lives
Looks like Average family, like they could afford her lifestyle but she must had been fine in academics, so the doctor wanted to suggest a better opportunity for her future. Since S Korea has more growth options and the Korean couple already wanted a Child.
Everything about this episode was very unusual. Her being adopted at a late age and thus having such a strong bond to her birth parents must be hard for her Korean parents. I admire for their strength and resilience. Not many adoptive parents would allow such a close bond to a child's birth parent. All of her parents were so supportive. Such a heart warming episode.
Woow That must be super hard because when she is in korea she really misses her biological family but If she stays for a long time in Bangladesh she is going to miss her korean family and friends ㅠㅠShe basically has two families and two homes
wow what a story...she basically has two families... korean family and bd family... she is very lucky that she was adopted by such a sweet korean family... I wish her the best of luck and may her real parents have the strength to cope up with this
Johana is a really lucky girl. She has 2 families that love her a lot. Don't ever judge a family who had to give up a child for adoption. Giving your child the best chance at life is showing them love, even if you can't be there with them all the time.
This episode is so touching. What a generous couple not only to adopt, but to adopt a foreign child (not a baby nor Korean) old enough that they can't pass as their own. I can only recall one KBS story about adoption and that was in the show Screening Humanity from a long time ago. It's not a common topic to be featured/discussed, which is why I like this episode.
Yes, I saw that show, which had a Russian girl being adopted into a Korean family. It was the same situation as this show - a little girl gets adopted into a Korean family, grows up with two cultures, then goes back to see her biological family in Russia.
respect to her both parents (Korean and Bangladesh). they both did great job. It's hard to give your child to another people. and it's hard to raise a child from 10 y. she already understood everything that was happening. and to show equal love to adopted and own children is not that easy, I'm sure.
im crying so hard when her father cry..her parents want the best education for her..they did a right thing plus she met a veryyyy nice korean parents....& she is so pretty..
I really like this episode! I can relate myself to Johanna a lot... i have been living in Germany for 7 years and i have german parents too but my biological family live in Indonesia. I can feel her sorrow and how she misses her family in Bangladesh too. Like i do, the only think we can do now is to pray and study harder and work harder.. then go back to our home country with proud! I am rooting you, Johana
Well all i can say is that your birth parents made that choice for you ..i am sure they had their good reason but i think its only fair that you should respect their choice and respect the family in germany which gave you home and a place in their heart.i think you should stay here in germany with your parents.😘
I guess this was too emotional for me to watch in the middle of the night. Being a bengali who loves Korean culture, this episode has touched me in ways I cannot express. Thank you KBS team for taking her back to Bangladesh no matter how short the visit was. Johanna you are a very lucky girl to have two such loving families. Don't be sad, be strong and I wish you all the best in life! :')
I like episodes like this, not like ones with people who try to expand or advertise their business in Korea. Stories like this is based on true life style of theirs in Korea not based on their success in Korea using this show for their biz.
OMG maybe I really emotional these days but when I saw her biological parents sending her off once again I couldn't stop crying. The way both her parents cried. The look in their eyes sending their daughter off. How hard must it have been. Being in a situation where u have to do this. T_T OMG I can't stop crying. Especially after that video messege. Her little sister T_T Hehe Her Korean dad seems exactly like my dad LOL. Always teasing. Wanting to spend some quality time here and there. Coming into my every day asking how I spent it. Hugging me when he sees me. Iam glad somebody like that is taking care of her.
I understand why she couldn't study in BD, she comes from a really poor area in BD, I don't think it's anywhere near the cities - I hope her blood family overcomes the hardships in their situation and bless the Korean parents for doing such a lovely thing.
This is one lucky girl . Some don’t even have a family and she has got two that love her dearly . But deep down I hope she love her adoptive parent more
This episode is so beautiful. The girl is surrounded by love. The Korean parents have the heart of the ocean. The Korean dad is one amazingly cool man. She even told him when he asked her if she liked any boy in he class yet " I want a guy like you, dad". So sweet ! And obviously she became such an incredible young woman.
These families are very blessed to have this young woman and vice versa. I hope the best for them all... watching this kind of inspires me to adopt. I love how her Korean parents raised her and ensure they always show love, not just say it.
her little sister is so nice its hurts my heart she wont grow up having her older sister around. It looks like she really does love her big sister alot.
It must be tough for her and for the families tho, that she has to divide her attention. Both families must think she likes the other one better and she must feel guilt. Maybe she even feels like she does't belong to one of the families sometimes. The korean family is awesome tho, they give all their love to her. I feel bad for the bangladesh family, but I'm really happy they sent her to study cuz education in korea is really better for girls.
When I first came to US to study, I used to cry missing my family at home esp whenever I saw planes in the sky.. It must have been so hard for her to get used to everything and everyone new.. 😢
As a person who has had to fight literally for everything I have through this show/families it's inspired me not to give up keep working toward my dream. I can't begin to describe how much respect I have for the families who through all the odds they continue to remain humble, loving and don't take anything for granted. All stories matter but this kind of episode really marks and highlights the intention of this whole programme. Well done guys we need more heartwarming stories like these than those foreigners trying to establish business with their wives.
12:25 the teachers shoes. Haha This episode made me tear a few times. I hope she gets to go back often to visit her family. Bless her Korean parents because they gave her an opportunity that she possibly will never get if she stayed in Bangladesh. Also I remember in the last episode's preview of this episode, she was speaking to a worker that she's Korean national or something. I really wanted to see that part.
Completely, I can understand her mind and her parents mind, I am the person who is studying in Canada and Always when I leave for Canada, my feeling is like her mind and my parents feeling might be the same with my parents mind.
I love love love this episode !! So beautifully produced, so genuine. it broke my heart when her biological mother just broke down... Johanna is gorgeous, and we can clearly see her inner beauty... also it was very interesting to see how they keep a certain distance in Banglad.. . she certainly hugged her biol. parents, in comparison to S. Kor. where they kissed on their lips (the popo kiss thing)... Adaptation is never easy... Anyway very great job KBS World !!
oh KBS, you had to mention - Johana is a charming girl with dark skin. I don't understand the necessity to mention skin tone here! Korea's obsession with skin color is dumbfounding.
i don't find any thing wrong with mentioning of her skin color in the clip. over sensitive. the episode was just fine and no racism found with her skin tone or color. If so, it is probably from the poor translation in English.
If her parents miss her that much why did they put her for adoption this bad thanks to her korean family she still can be in touch with her family in Bangladesh otherwise the families might not allow her to be in touch with her real parents
I wasn’t expecting to be literally pouring tears while watching this. It was just so relatable... especially when she was leaving. I could feel the love both families had for her.
They mentioned that she's struggling with her grades. Does the school have some kind of program where a translator can help her or have extra tutoring or something like that? She seems like a bright girl, it's just that the language barrier is a little hard for her to grasp subjects in school. I wish her and her family all the best, though! They're really cute ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
good point but I don't think she has a language barrier. Her Korean and the way she acts and behaviors seems just like her fellow ages. Her parents briefly mentioned that they are working on other options for her future. They seem supporting her fully. I also hope she may have some other extra support from her school to catch up her school works. I also wish her and her family all the best!!!
PandaLuver1996 lol it's definitely not the language barrier, the show may have portrayed it that way but in actuality she's just having a hard time understanding Math like any other teenager. She'll do fine in the future
the subject in the maths class they were studying is calculus. normally it is studied in the first grade at university whereas not in korea. it must be generally hard
normally in university? where do you live? lol. it's a common subject for high schoolers in their 11'th year. I've done the same thing in school. it's just that not a lot of people like highschool math, or understand it. each person has things they're good at and things they're bad at.
chillipepper you can never say it is a common school subject, which implies as if it is in the globe. I have done my study in Korea and in which every student has to study basic calculus in their 11th grade regardless of whether one belongs in science curriculum or literature. However, as I have tutored in Canada, NZ, and Australia, in those contries, not everyone has to study it but up to students' choice. Nevertheless, in NZ it is a subject of the 13th year's, which is widely of the same age as the first grade's at uni in other contries, and, in Alberta Canada, there exist no calculus subject at high school.
This really brought me to tears. I love the Korean parents and how they are so kind. Johanna is a very lucky girl, however, she is very kind. The twins are so cute. Thank you for sharing your story.
BRILLIANT EPISODE...I couldn't understand why Johana was adopted out, when her Parents were still alive in Bangladesh...But as the episode unfolded and we were able to see where Johana was and where she came from, I totally understood why...She is a beautiful young lady and the love she gets from both Parents and siblings, is awesome...Love to see an update on both families.
there are some faults in the translation.. in the video message hossana & Bangladeshi parents were thanking the Korean parents & saying that the are grateful of their love towards Jhoanna..
Im not crying! You are! No but seriously, her story just moved my heart and it reminded me of when i first left Philippines to move in Italy with my parents and had to leave behind my grandparents. I was 10 yrs old back then so now everytime i go back home in the philippines, a piece of my heart always stay behind and it saddens me knowing that i’ll always miss my granparents.
I can't help my tears from falling. I didn't see my parents and siblings in more than 4 years and I was happy for her that she saw her parents. I hope I will get a chance to see my parents soon huhuhu
Although I don't speak bengali, hearing her speak it made me feel so much closer to her. A lot of my friends speak bengali, hearing her made her feel familiar ♥️
I really want to salute zoana's korean parents. How great that they didn't break the bond with her birth parents. I think that's why she is living happily now!!!
Lovely young Bengali woman and that Korean family are so kind to adopt an older child as she was like that (esp. considering adoption being a controversial issue). Her biological parents sacrificing seeing her grow up for her to get a better education is really poignant and reminds me of the lengths that parents can go for their kids.
both her korean parents and bengali parents are all so great omg im crying. i'd be devastated to leave either one in a situation like that. im happy to see that she has a great support system either way.
Been watching many episodes, although some of them brought tears to my eyes, this one really cried my eyes out. I respect Johana’s Korean parents so much as I am sure it’s not easy for them as well, I can they are trying extremely hard to show Johana their love and that it’s not any less than the twins. Wishing Johana all the best and be able to give back to both her biological and Korean parents in the future.
A birth of new family..A family doesn't need to be related in blood any more. Also a book says all of us are descents of Noah couple in the giant extended family.
This episode is so touching. I really respect her parents adopting Joahana when she was 10 and letting her to keep in touch with her bangali parents. It also must be really tough time for 10 years old of Johana to leave her family and adapt to living with her new family in a strange country.
She is so pretty. This story was so touching😟my eyes got teary. And I could understand how she had felt when her grandparents gave her such a big amount & she didn't knw how to accept it.

Her smile is probably one of the most beautiful smiles I've ever seen god bless her and both of her families ♥️♥️
Her korean parents are so cute too, they are amazing human beings 😭❤❤❤
I'm from Bangladesh but I grew up in the U.S. but watching this makes me miss my relatives in Bangladesh. She is blessed to have two families that love her equally and she is blessed to be living in Korea 😊
This inspired me to study harder
ikr
All these episodes do
They remind me how better off i am n how i can work hard to get the most out of my opportunities
Definetly!!
Conversation between her dad and her is precious- thisadoption story shows humanity and kindness exists!!
All stories matter but this kind of episode really marks and highlights the intention of this whole programme. Well done guys we need more heartwarming stories like these than those foreigners trying to establish business with their wives.
This is a beautiful family 😭 does anyone else thinks she's like the Indian version of Kim Soohyun ( the girl ) ? ❤️
yes she does ^^ the first thing that popped up when I saw her
same I thought the same thing
yes she does even her voice also sounds like soyeon
* Bangladesh version
Great comparison!
This show is so wholesome. I love that they bring awareness and show the difference in culture. We need more shows like this one.
Dad: What is your ideal type? Except from me?
Daughter: There's none.
Me: Awww ^^
I thought that was weird
@@pbrandonj I just thinked the same 😓
@@bong4538 it seems like the adoptive father has a crush on the girl. I know we're not the only ones who noticed.
@Lia yes it is
@@pbrandonj yes I'm uncomfortable watching them together. Their relationship is weird and I see her being pretty uncomfortable when he touches her.
Dear RUclips why did u recommend this video ??
Now I can't stop crying
12:25 the teachers shoes. Haha
This episode made me tear a few times.
I'm dying at the teacher's shoes 😂
Lol
I am Bengali and I'm touched that they involved my home country in such a beautiful way
Thank u for the korean parents its something unbelievable to be soo kind you are amazing you are angels
OMG I JUST REALISED JOHANA IS FROM MY/ MY FAMILY'S HOMETOWN BACK IN BANGLADESH (jessore)
SERIOUSLY??? I THOUGHT THAT WAS SHIROMONI (In Khulna's district)!!! Wow tbh I forgot how Jessore even looked like, ITS BEEN SO LONG
I love this. Of course the Korean parents were cool for what they've done, but her birth parents are amazing for letting it happen
Omg!! I was shocked when I heard she speaking Bangla. I was feeling proud of my language.
Me too! I grew up in America and can’t really practice it but hearing it made me feel at home.
oh KBS, you had to mention - Johana is a charming girl with dark skin. I don't understand the necessity to mention skin tone here! Korea's obsession with skin color is dumbfounding.
stop being so fucking buthurt jesus. you americans tthink everythings racist.
i don't find any thing wrong with mentioning of her skin color in the clip. over sensitive. the episode was just fine and no racism found with her skin tone or color. If so, it is probably from the poor translation in English.
@claudia.... there you go... yeahHHHH
claudia0201 ..And there's always someone commenting pulling the race card out of nowhere smh.
Wow the comments below are the reason why some people don't get it.
I cried 😢😢😢 it's so beautiful and touching 😢❤
en paix ㅔ
양쪽 부모님들이 너무 좋아 보이고 모두 행복해 보여요...오래오래 동안 소중한 가족들 살았으면 좋겠어요
WHERE ALL MY BENGALIS AT MATES
procrasTAOnating yoongi yessssss!
Ruddi yOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Bangladeshi ryt here!!
BDESH
here!!!!!
She has 3 younger sisters
4 parents
And two homes
So happy that shebhas so many loved ones
its really heartouching when her Bengali parents cried together I cried tooo houseman she is too cute and intelligent
there are some faults in the translation.. in the video message hossana & Bangladeshi parents were thanking the Korean parents & saying that the are grateful of their love towards Jhoanna..
I'm from Dhaka,Bangladesh.Just get emotional after watch this one!never expected something like this one. Thanks guys.🥺🇧🇩💜
I can't help my tears from falling. I didn't see my parents and siblings in more than 4 years and I was happy for her that she saw her parents. I hope I will get a chance to see my parents soon huhuhu
Its overwhelming to see your sister go away and think Honsana is comfort eating . Brave parents
so cute!! loved Hosanna!!
Although I don't speak bengali, hearing her speak it made me feel so much closer to her.
A lot of my friends speak bengali, hearing her made her feel familiar ♥️
I am from Bangladesh it's good to see a Bangladeshi in this show
her korean family is so nice.. i'm happy she has such amazing people in her life.. i hope you grow up well kid
So cute when she put facial masks on her family😂
I love this girl.
Wow her parents are literally angels! 💫💙look how amazing they are! So sweet🥺
i cried. ..a lot..I am from Bangladesh too .
This episode is so touching. I really respect her parents adopting Joahana when she was 10 and letting her to keep in touch with her bangali parents. It also must be really tough time for 10 years old of Johana to leave her family and adapt to living with her new family in a strange country.
I cried when watching this as it reminded me of my parents who lives thousands of kilometers away T.T
I cried so much , I cant even. God bless these people.
Hosanna is such a cute and sweet little sister 😭😭 you can tell she loves Johanna a lot!
She is so pretty. This story was so touching😟my eyes got teary. And I could understand how she had felt when her grandparents gave her such a big amount & she didn't knw how to accept it.
very touching! one of the best so far^^
Both her families are so sweet, her Korean parents have such big hearts, bless them
