I visit Shetland and Lerwick i the year 2000. It was one of the best journeys I’v ever made. One of the most beautiful memorys was meeting a very nice dancingteatcher. For a brief moment I had the idea not going back to Sweden.😊❤️ I often think back to that time, some day I will return.😍
I lived on the other side of Shetland, in Hamnavoe when I was 8-10 and really didn't realise how lucky I was. 19 years later I still haven't been back but am planning to visit, maybe even move permanently one day.
This video is excellent!! So well made, well informed too! I’m from shetland and I’m constantly cringing at bad videos with historical inaccuracies but there’s not a flaw in this. Thank you very much sir for this.
Such a nice town, thank you very much for sharing it with those of us who enjoy exploring these places still not overrun by the madness of modern life.
The series SHETLAND made me want to know all about SHETLAND. I wish I could get there from USA. But I doubt I ever will. Thanks for this lovely video!💗💗💗
Thank you. You may be interested in hunting out the Shetland Tourist Centre. They put out a monthly newsletter, Promote Shetland. It's full of interesting stories of Shetland life. info@shetland.org
Planing my 40th birthday trip there in 2028, I’ve been a big fan of the crime show Shetland and just love the natural beauty of the landscape and its amazing historic buildings and towns. Can’t wait to venture there.
Very pretty scenery. In some ways, I guess depending on what you do for work, your age, lifestyle choice, etc, it might even be better to live there there in Mainland UK nowadays! Thanks for sharing the video:)
Lived there when I was a wee lad in 1978/1979 - went to Dunrossness Primary. That building, with the steps going up from the water, was something to do with smuggling.
Was in the Orkneys many years ago, but never made it to the Northern neighbours. Sounds like an Aussie made video. Seems very good. Even Shetlanders say so.
I attended the Shetland Simmer Dim Rally on twenty occasions. Lerwick used to have an excellent campsite were we stayed on after the rally. Unfortunately they have built a school on it. Bit of a swizz surrounding that. The Council said they would move the camp to another site in Lerwick. Did not happened because that has been also been built on. The accommodation barges are long gone.
I am sure that you will enjoy a visit. At the moment though Shetland is in lock down for visitors. Did you know that you can get a monthly newsletter from the Shetland Tourist Office. Hunt out www.shetland.org
Hi Peter, If you just want to visit the town then a couple of days is fine. However with a rental car there is the opportunity to explore more of Shetland and at least five days would be good. I think that I spent five or six days there and could have done with more time to explore other islands which are linked by regular vehicular ferries. Contact the Shetland Tourist Centre in Lerwick for information. I foudn them to be very helpful nad they sent some useful publications.
What a shame everything is closed on a Sunday. I can understand observing the Sunday trading laws, but as a day visitor desperate to spend my money in Harry's superstore, i had to stare through the window, looking at lovely things i could not buy.
Interesting suggestion but it lacks the surrounding mountains and snow, polar bear warnings and general lack of vegetation. But both locations are really fascinating to visit.
Pity the sound track is so disappointing and has so little to do with Shetland. A shame not to employ more of the rich tradition of Shetland fiddle music. The first fiddle tune we hear is a beautiful tune but an Irish tune called Sí Bheag, Sí Mhór composed by Turlough O'Carolan!
Interesting to learn that. I recorded it during a musical evening around a hostel table in Skye with a group of local nationalist Scots. I had the impression that everything being played was Scotish. I did bring back some Shetland fiddle music on CD but I try to use royalty free and copyright clear music to aviod issues and You Tube allowing advertising to be atached.
Looks like a decent place with nice weather. Whats it like for colored tourists ate the people there kind to colored people. Dont take my question the wrong way just that once I went to st heiler and people wernt to freiny with coloured people. Thanks

Rory Johnston Yes I agree! I’m going to Shetland this summer, do you have any recommendations on things I should do/see there?
Rory Johnson can you get me fixed up with a Scottish heffer on your island.
I live in Split city on Adriatic coast, but I find very inspiring this video of northern Shetland capitol.

Ann Bergman Same!! Jag är också från Sverige och ska åka dit i sommar!😊

I live there and it’s quite boring
Lucky you! I'd love to sail across the North Sea there! I love ocean voyages!! It just looks so magical and unique!💗
I love old ladies.
Very good thank, lots of information, great images, well done 👍👏
Thank you for your feedback. It is appreciated.
Detective Inspector D.I. Perez Drove me Here 😬😬😬
Thought he was a fictional character, certainly never knew he drove taxis!
Venkat me too!
Well done. Excellent content. Facts and figures not just touristy jargon. Will subscribe to hear more videos. (Australia)
What a gem of a video! I feel as though I’ve visited Shetland yet all I have here in Canada is my Shetland Sheepdog laying at my feet
That hostel looks better than most hotels!
My wish one day is to be able to visit this wonderful place and to place a remembrance poppy on my uncle’s grave in the cemetery above Lerwick.
Good to see the lounge and the queens still there drank in both of them in1979 when I was painting the school great memories

Hi , is it cold during april ? And does the daylight stay till 11pm ? Cheers !
So distant from Britain's mainland, yet still part of us.
Lovely enjoyed we trip to Scotland never been there in shetlands 46 years in Canada
Lerwick looks so cute. I must visit this place before I leave earth.
Yes you must! Great place to visit and live!
Yes it ok
excellent video.
I was on North Sea worker in 1986, but I never visited these beautiful islands. I plan to visit this nice place.
We went to Shetland in 2019, nice memories of Lerwick

I love Shetland the series. It’s always surprising though that such a peaceful, beautiful place is so crime-ridden. 😂
When it comes to murder Shetland has nothing on Midsomer. They have three sometimes four murders per episode.
woo worth to go and see
Thank you for that. Beautiful! You should work for TV with your voice. .........👍🗣
انا في مكان بعيد ولا استطيع الوصول الى هذه البلده الرائعه😢

Lovely wee video...however the rock shown at 4:54 it isn't Runic script but Ogham.
An Irish form of writing.
I was wondering. Do flowers grow in Shetland climate. I see very little color in the videos I've seen.
as a Shetlander its 50/50 you can easy grow flowers but you dont see alot of wild flowers due to the really bad weather we get alot
They blow away 😅
Lerwick comes from old norse "Leirvík" which means "clay bay".
Thank you. I don't think that I knew that.
I’m thinking of going....how long would you recommend?

Well i live in Shetland and i have some different thoughts about where i live
Do you not feel comfortable?
Is it because economic prroblems?
It's clear that tourists like us see your isle in a romantic way. ....🤔
The Tullochs lived here
At 0:23 you can see the zebra boat i used to love that boat so much idk what happened to it?
It was an accommodation barge called Sans Vitesse - they moved it out of Lerwick and round to the Gas Plant next to Brae if I remember rightly
What a lovely place to live❤
Have you seen Doug Henshall yet?
He is filming at the bottom of my garden near moussa ferry right now 🙂

A Scottish tune would be more appropriate at 1.40.

Reminds me to Svalbard.

@@GORDONLAWRENCEVIDEOS Well, they certainly look similar, and well Svalbard has dwarf reindeer and Shetland has ponies, haha. salutes from Venezuela.
ı was chillin on the google earth and ı found this place on an ısland this is beatıful
But where are the ponies??

This narrator can’t spell.
You could at least pronounce Lerwick the right way.
Donald Trump’s mum came from Lerwick.
She did not. She was born and raised in Tong, Isle of Lewis.
Lynn Cooper is mixed up. As David H says, Mary McLeod came from Tong which is close to Stornoway, Lewis.
