Just got into tying my own and made one of these today. Fished it this afternoon. Outstanding - caught fish from 14cm to over 40cm and everything in between. Thanks for sharing!!
For what it's worth I used a couple of different components: - Hook was a Kamasan B175 in #6 - this is a very strong looking hook. The foam seems slightly narrower than your demo. - I had yellow crystal flash on hand, and bucktail instead of deer hair, but really the fish can't tell the difference :) Next time I think I'll tie the top piece in white foam (and colour the bottom and sides of that piece black with a permanent marker, so that I can see it a bit better in the afternoon light.
@@PeachyFlyFishing I have a follow-up question. When tying the head (fourth body segment), I am trying to tie over the chenille and underfoam. I'm finding the thread often jumps off, and down to the hook shaft at or just behind the eye. When you tie this, do you tie the front segment directly to the hook shank just behind the eye, or try to keep it on the foam/chenille (time 11:05 in the video)?
I usually try to keep it just on the chenille, then jump down to the eye just to whip finish. So the key is when you fork the last body segment keep it back from the eye just a tiny bit and catch the end of the chenille and foam underbody.

That’s brilliant mate glad to hear it! It’s been a killer fly for me, caught thousands of bass and EPs on it, and a few bream as well. :)

Yep materials don’t have to be exactly the same. I sometimes tie in a small white poly yarn sighter on top for visibility.

Thanks! I do tie trout flies but there are so many patterns, nothing particularly original about mine! ;)
Can anyone make me some? Bass fishing in Werribee I think these would be ideal
Hi Chris, I'll ask a friend who is a commercial tier if he can do some for you, will get back to you. :)
