Just a little info for you that may help (coming from the crafting side of things). There is an 'ink' pad you can get which is a colourless embossing ink, Versamark is one of them. It has two properties, being sticky. First, it is good to prime your stamp with it as it makes the actual colour ink you are using stick to the stamp better. The second, if you use the clear sticky ink to stamp with, you can buy embossing powders in various colours. You sprinkle those on the ink, tip off the excess and heat it with a craft embossing tool and it melts it into place. (Like a heat gun but not as hot).
Thanks for the tips!
I have made several wooden stamps. I found that if I seal the wood with a spray glase it works much better.
Yes, great idea! I did notice the more I stamped with the wood and it dried between stamps, the better it got.
Fun project and as a doting grandpa I LOVE the idea of cartoon character set for the grandkids. AWESOME video.
Thanks Larry! Don't forget to make a box with the stamps to keep them stowed!
Stamps work better if you add Eva Foam between the rubber and the wooden handle, that makes a cushion so they press and stamp more evenly, give it a try!
Thanks for the tip!
If you were to engrave one end (not reversed) on the handle then attach the reverse cut stamp on the other end. This does require a bigger handle.
Align the image orientation so when you go to pick the stamp out of a bunch of them you know what you’re looking for and what orientation to use it.
Just a suggestion for crafters that use stamps.
Thanks for the tips!
Rich, about a year and a half ago I made a wooden seal for my daughter. The trick there is to make the negative a little bigger than the positive image so when you emboss the paper it doesn't just punch a hole in it.
By the way, wood block printing has been around for centuries. I have seen a lot of wooden type in my life. Most of it being large letters. But now we have the technology to make the wooden type much easier, don't we?
You are correct about it being better than rubber.
No doubt about it, it was a fun video that certainly will give folks more ideas of what they can do with their lasers.
Thanks Kris! And yes, these are engraved larger than the graphics.
Sometimes having a backing that has "a little give" helps with the ink being laid down.. not a full emboss.. but ya always can do that too.
- Or without "ink" you can do a Blind Emboss. (and if you make another positive stamp that offsets into the negative stamp you already made.. it does a nice emboss job - even custom napkins.
- Or spray it with Crisco Oil or even "Its NOT BUTTER" spray, and you can make a WAX SEAL on an old school envelope.
- OR if you have freshly Poured SOAP.. you can make a SOAP MOLD emboss for custom soap.
@@josephKEOarthur great ideas!
Rubber stamps often include another layer of rubber/foam between the stamp rubber and the handle to give more compression when stamping
This rubber has it built in Angie.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I think Angie is right. I had the same problem and ended up putting a bit of felt in between the stamp and block. That lets the rubber bend a bit and adjust for the less than perfect flatness.
Click on *Show More* above for links to everything I talked about in the video!
Wood block printing has been around for at least 1300 years. But carving a wooden block with a laser sure makes it a lot easier. You might want to experiment with making some larger art prints. The wood grain adds an "old-fashioned look" to a print that may otherwise look a little too sterile using more modern printing methods, embosses the image into the paper, and makes each print unique. You can buy or make a block printer fairly easily. It's another potential business opportunity for laser owners.
Thanks for the tip Hugh!
Current equivalent is linoleum block printing. Did some carving of that years ago. This is a great opportunity with a laser!
(The ink goes into the engraved part, the surface is wiped off, and paper pressed against it to pull ink out of the etched part. the characteristics from old wood block printing is from the ink in the wood being pulled int9 the paper.)
Great video Rich, great way to play without having to buy special rubber.
Glad the phone rang Russ! 😜
For those with 3D Printers you could design and print custom stamp handles with logo etc
Oh duh! I didn't even think of that! Thanks for the comment!
Or even a simple LATHE make the stamphandle .. (dont have a lathe? then rig up a good corded drill , DIY lathe - mainly for soft woods)
A good powered lathe and you can use billets of Aluminum Rods and make the handle that way.
Hello from Houma! Thanks for showing how the wood stamp turned out. I was contemplating doing something similar for my shop.
Glad it was helpful neighbor!
Woodblock print came before rubber! 😁
I think wood stamps are great for stamps that are not used frequently. Wood can't recover as much as rubber can. But I need to try this!
Have fun with it!
Hi Rich. Than you for sharing your awesome ideas. There is always something great in your videos that makes me to come back to your channel. Awesome job.
As always, thank you so much Bob! I really appreciate it! 👍
Thanks again Rich, happy to know this tricks. Al the best from the Netherlands.
Thank you Dirk! Glad to see my word viewers!
Awesome result with the wooden stamp 👏👏 great idea using the cabinet knob for a handle. Research and development (R&D) is a term to describe the effort a company devotes to the innovation, and improvement of its products and processes & you sir at the top of your game 🙂
Wow, thank you very much! 👍
Can we have a light burn tutorial for this please. Love your videos, learnt soooo much! Thanks from 🇬🇧
It's just a filled circle with text on top Sandra. And then I mirrored the text.
Thank you, my sister makes bibs and burp cloths and sports towels that I’ve been trying to figure out a way to make a stamp for her to use to put her logo on them rather than a label that sticks out an scratches people.
Remember to reverse the image Peggy!
i half wonder if you put a piece of the rubber between the knob and the wooden stamp it would help equalize the pressure accross the wooden stamp
This is laser rubber, so it has a layer built in for that Mark.
Thank you for your vids. Very clear and concise. I must say, there are a lot of folks making laser vids, and many of them have very good info, however.... many of them are personally annoying as heck. Now, that's just my opinion, and I'm still grateful for their advice. You, however, I feel like I could invite over for a barbecue and a few beers, (or iced tea, etc.), and never feel the desire to smack you one. Well, I'm sure a lot of people feel the desire to smack me from time to time also, probably including people reading this reply. Anyhow, I appreciate the advice, thank you!
Wow! Thank you so much! I appreciate the comment! When is the BBQ?? 🤪
When I First saw your video from your coin, I thaught O could use that as leather stamp, made of wood. It is perfect for that.
Yep, that's how I got the idea!
in art, when we carve wood to make prints on paper, it's called wood block printing... or wood block print... that's exactly what you are doing... and now i'm thinking about doing some big prints by doing the same thing... hmm... maybe i can make a guide on the 3 max, and make some wood block art prints...
Sounds like fun!
Got my 1st 10w Phecda laser on order and my wife does ceramics and I want to create wooden stamps but man its confusing how to cut out the bits i dont want to stand out so was great watching this.
On facebook many folks point us noobs to your channel so i've subbed and gonna see what you can teach me ;-)
Awesome! 👍 Thanks for watching!
Does the wood break down over time?
Nah, they've been making these this way for centuries.
What is the speed and power to do rubber stamp in a lazer machine plz.
I wouldn't be able to tell you because every laser and material is different. You have to do material testing.
I like this idea Much better than a lanyard
Awesome! 👍 Thanks for watching!
Hi can you share the link for the rubber?
Sure Miriam! This is the laser safe rubber I used in the video: 🔗 amzn.to/4aERLkJ
Wood stamp can also be use to inprint in wet leather
Make leather bit wet and clamp your stamp on the leather 😉
Yep, that's a whole different video on the schedule!
Put a layer of foam between the wood and the rubber and it will stamp great!
Thanks for the tip!
Excelent Idea!!! Thanks about It!!!
You bet!
Kenny from a cut above woodworking (RUclips) made a rubber stamp last week. I would suggest placing the rubber on an arc so the stamp can be rolled. 😁🛫
Thanks for the tip Kenny!
Great video!! Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Hey Rich , this is what I had sent you the delrin for to make leather stamps , did you ever try the delrin . Thanks
Funny you should mention that Rick. I just put the box in the other shop to test.
Hi! Very interesting experiment! Would love to try it! I have a humble 5w diode laser. Would you mind sharing the configuration you used? (Power, speed, rtc). Thanks in advance!
No, I don't do that. You have to run your own material tests. If I shared my settings, they wouldn't work on your laser or material, so it would just be a waste of money for you.
Thanks Rich ... you're the best
Thank you so much seagnat prepper! I really appreciate it! 👍
Thanks!
Thanks so much for the support @donniee1934!
Hi. thanks for this video. can you please share the parameters for creating a rubber stamp? I have one of these k40 machines
You have to do your own testing. I don't know what rubber you're using or how many watts you engrave at.
Seems the lightburn lbart file is empty.
It is not Paul; I just tested it. Perhaps you didn't Load it from the Art Library.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I'll check later today again but the extracted file was only 1K in size. Seemed too small to have art contents? And maybe I forgot how to Load it from the Art Library?
Hi Rich .. enjoyed the video. I'm pretty sure you've shown this on one of your videos ... can't find it. How do I put writing on an "S" shaped object. I know there has to be away. Thanks in advance if you're able to help me and thanks for all your videos. Nat
The easiest way is with a Lightburn Camera. However, I did do a video on odd shapes here:ruclips.net/video/JaZl5PfzkXk/видео.html
You could take a photo of the S shaped item and import it into Lightburn and use the method above.
MDF stamps? Got some neoprene rubber today, I expect it to smell. I cnced MDF, did not think to laser it for stamps. Leather stamps for one off book titles?
You can make them out of almost any material!
friend, I'm about to buy a 20w neje laser, will it work for rubber stamps? thank you.
Yes it will. I did this on a 10W.
Rich where do you source your plywood from. I have mixed results with the stuff I pick up from the local hardware store. (Southerlands) Some i am able to get through with my neje, and some i am not able to. I suspect it's the glue used in the sheet.
I get all of my thin wood on Amazon now Glen. I have some links in the Show More section to my store.
How powerful is your laser machine? Is It diode laser? More than 10W? Would I be able to make such stamps with a 10W laser diode machine?
This was the LaserMATIC 10, so yeah, 10 watts Elito.
Hi Rich. I missed it, if you mentioned it, but did you turn on Ramps for these engravings? Thanks for the video!
I don't know what Ramps is Raun. It was a simple engrave.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy The option is on the Advanced Tab of the Cut Settings Editor for Fill Mode. My understanding is that it widens out what is left as it engraves deeper and provides more stability in softer materials like rubber. I've never used it but I've also never made a stamp before.
I’ll a 50w Omtech co2 laser be sufficient for making rubber stamps? Do I have to use a 60 or 80 watt?
I can do it on a diode laser or the smallest Co2 on the market.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy how’s the speed on the diode for stamp making? I’m trying to run a company off the machine. Any recommendations? Thanks for your time!
How about etching the wooden knob without the rubber?
Brilliant idea Ed! I have the best viewers! 👍
I was being lazy tonight and not wanting to raise my machine to engrave the top of my stamp blocks so I used a label maker with clear circle labels and saved so much time they print in seconds
Looks like you used the Roly. Settings?
The final test settings for both the wood and rubber were 3000 mm/min with 75% power & crosshatch on, with a 325 LPI. The rubber *would not* cut in *line* mode with any setting! I wound up having to offset the line and set it to offset fill with the same settings and it cut right through.
Bro we’re. An I get that rubber ?
I got it on Amazon. amzn.to/3SdgwOG
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy thanks bro
You upload early.
I try and stick to the 5:30 timeframe Carl. Years ago it was a newspaper; today it's a video with the morning coffee.
I should have said settings for rubber. Amazon rubber?
I edited the last reply Carl. After checking the library, it was 3000 mm/min. The link to the laser rubber is in the description.
Too much stress, there's usually double sided foam adhesive in-between . Its been tried and tested 600 years ago
Ah, I didn't know they had foam 600 years ago! 🤪 This was my first attempt at it, so...
Hi, for some time i have been collecting inages for my art libuary and have got to the stage that Im not to sure what I have and where it is , if you know what I mean. Do you know or any of your subscribers know of a way of printing the art library out so the I can see what I have.
Many thanks for what you do I have learned so much,
Dvae S.
The art libraries are not actual images Dave, they're computer code, so no. You could pull the Art Library out of its dock and make it larger, and then take a screenshot.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Ok thanks
CUT TO THE CHASE @10:20
The thumbnail wasn't good enough for you Joseph? Most folks like to see how it's done and listen to my babble 🤪 Maybe Google Images is what you're looking for....
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy yeah i love the talk, (love your voice, reminds me of my cool uncle David) - just seemed alot of filler or "lead-in" to what was done so so special.
And i tried it , it worked well. Especially on pourous or non-hardwood. so you can LOAD UP THE INK, as they say in the press / printing worl.d.
I had fun with it Joseph. I found on the wooden one, the more times I stamped it, the better it got, letting it dry in between.
Now... Take a piece o leather, make it wet a little and press this wooden stamp on it. Preferably using a press. MDF works fine too.
Already on the to-do list!
Belive me its not on the
Rubber its on the ink
Your using fake ink
And cheap ink
Yep, cheap ink just for testing.
