    I hate to tell you, but you are meant to overlap each edge by 50mm and tape the edge of the foil

    I was thinking you’d attach this foil around the perimeter to make an air gap between steel door and insulation. But I need to research it more.

    Good work mate. Fellow garage gym enthusiast here considering doing the same. Be handy if you could do a follow up video to confirm how warm this keeps the garage 👍👍

      Thanks! For £30 it’s definitely worth it. I’ll let you know after it’s been on a while how it feels. A side benefit is it reflects the light and makes the gym brighter.

      @@thegaragegymgeek2210 I've just ordered the same kit. Now it's winter, what difference does it make? I work a smallish room above the same size garage as you and it gets chilly in the winter. I'm hoping this will help.

      I'm convinced it makes some difference. It isn't warm but I reckon it's a few degrees better. Plus it's reflective and bounces the light around the gym better than without it. So that's an unexpected bonus@@jamesbramwell1454

    Informative and open as always, including what you might do differently next time. Thank you for sharing, great video. Look forward to hearing your thoughts in due course particularly around any potential droughts from the garage door edges.

      Cheers Saf! The door is pretty well sealed now with a storm strip on the bottom and the flexible seal along the top.
      Next video is going to explore the various ways I can setup the gym for different types of workouts. Amazing what you can do with 12 sq m!

      Hey. It was 3m branded not sure of the exact name. But it did the job. Have it around the bottom of the shower glass too

    Thanks a lot, this was really useful and just ordered the foil roll from Amazon. I use my garage as an art room and it’s really cold, have you got links for what you used to seal gaps at the top and bottom of your garage? also are you still able to open it after, to be honest doesn’t matter if mine is closed off as i do not open it that much, thanks

    • @thegaragegymgeek2210
      @thegaragegymgeek2210  Год назад +1

      You’re really welcome man. If you search on Amazon for 3m flexible seal you’ll find the stuff I used on the sides and top Cree thing at the bottom was already there - a rubber seal but I recently added another rubber strip glued to the floor so the door is almost sealed from all draughts. Opens fine :)

    Great vid, very helpful. Some q's😀 - what impact has this had temp wise ? Also has it added a lot of weight to the door or would an electric opening garage door still work fine? Also how did you seal the gaps at the top/ bottom / sides was it with that tape you mentioned? Ps great neat job- not so sure mine will look as well finished as I tend to rush these things! Many thanks

      @thegaragegymgeek2210  2 года назад +1

      Hi! It had made a real difference to the temperature especially as I workout in there and I generate heat this keeps It in. It adds almost no weight at all. The top and sides are sealed with the tape I mentioned, the bottom had a storm seal along it.
      It’s pretty neat, didn’t take too long to do a decent job, just take a little time over it and you’ll be surprised how easy it is.

    Very nice video, you have inspired me to take the leap with garage door insulation. I just had a cross-trainer installed in my garage attached to my house (but no connecting door). It seems that the temperature needs to be kept above 10 DegC to stop moisture condensing when its cold and ruining the machine internals over time. So I am going to insulate the garage & door to help keep the garage warm and also to keep it cooler in the summer, when the garage door is too hot to touch. I saw the attached video, which supplements your video, as it gives actual temperature difference results (only in summer, but the winter is just the reverse) "Which Garage Door Insulation Works Best?" ruclips.net/video/vp-wfrolo-k/видео.html. It includes a test of an equivalent to Superfoil insulation.
    At the moment, as I need to keep my garage warm (>10 DegC) in winter when I'm not using it, I am going to stick some beefier insulation to the garage door, similar to the types in the video, and I have picked "YBS SuperQuilt Lite Multi-Layer Foil Insulation 32mm thick" (which I will use on the rest of the garage as well). Also as my metal garage door gets above 60 Deg C in the summer I have also found some strong industrial high temperature foam double sided sticky tape, just in case the summer temperature affects the adhesion : "3M™ VHB™ High Temperature Tapes" (see www.vikingtapes.co.uk/collections/3m-vhb-high-temperature-tapes), particularly as the insulation isn't as light as the Superfoil insulation you used. I was initially going to try non specialist double sided tape, see comparisons of quite a few double sided tapes for stickiness strength in the attached video : ruclips.net/video/cIasko9-AmQ/видео.html (the best one looks to be available in the UK).
