FASTEST IVE EVER CLICKED A VIDEO HOLY SHIT WELCOME BACK Edit: This may very well be my new favorite video you’ve ever put out. I’m a massive fan of these films and even I didn’t know the differences in the English and Japanese dubs or the clever details in the sound design of Spirited Away or The Wind Rises. And you’re right. I am going to rewatch all of these now. Thank you so much.
It should be noted that GKIDS reissued CASTLE IN THE SKY with two versions of the Disney dub: one with the rescore and one with the original score; both have the original sound effects and dial out the extra dialogue. KIKI's dub, too, has been modified to feature the original SFX, music, etc., and dials out Hartman's lines.
As someone who edits professionally this video was so well put together. The sound design and editing was so smooth and flawless. Major props man. You "bumped the lamp."
@@bluebotlivingston6016 I personally use the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, Premiere Pro and After Effects primarily. I feel like they just completely misread their audience. I feel like 3 minutes of just silence for no reason would make most average moviegoers uncomfortable. But the sound design in these movies is there to give that "silence" meaning. To tell you a story. That's what those Disney execs didn't realise or chose to ignore.
@@Meridian951 if it was pure silence as in no sound at all that would bother me, but these movies had ambience as in the sounds that happen anyway regardless of the characters like the sounds of the wind or bustling people. I enjoyed what little I saw of those movies. I mean I have vivid memories of the two little girls in totaro catching the soot/dust sprites in totaro. this video was a bold departure from all of your usual techniques, and easily ranks as one of the best video essays ever. i appreciate that you realized how your methodology for sound design, clip editing, and music in your videos would not pair well with ghibli films and opted to do a complete 180, with no added music or your comic book-esque stylized transitions. that isn't to say that the edits in this video weren't impressive; they're even more impressive because they are outside of that purview of what constitutes a video of yours and manage to be as effective. happy to see you back, kap.

The truly great thing about this Video Essay is that, even when you have the script and narration, it chooses to show the message its trying to convey through the use of the same tools it's talking about. And is one of the best Video Essays I've ever seen. Thanks, man. You truly made justice to what makes Studio Ghibli such a wonderful studio. In a way that I never expected to see.
Listening to your comparisons of western vs original content, reminds me of one of my gripes with the live action Ghost In The Shell. They completely took out my favorite scene, the minutes long track through the different neighborhoods of the city. Arguably one of the best scenes ever in anime.
The return of the greatest editor on RUclips. Thank you for your hard work. Edit: I hope I'm not accidentaly deifying you by attributing the editing to you alone! If there is anyone who works with you on your videos they deserve equal appreciation as well!
5:30 I may very well do that at some point. I definitely appreciate long periods of no score in movies (which is part of what makes Western filmmakers like Denis Villeneuve and Jonathan Glazer so appealing to me, disproving the whole idea that that's solely an Eastern thing), but Hisaishi's score is always amazing too.
I suppose it wasnt an official Studio Ghibli work, but it definitely was a project Miyazaki worked on. Regardless I'm satisfied with this video and all it discussed, this RUclipsr has a way with presentation, stellar video

Thank you. Rarely when I get lost on RUclips I see a video that tells me enough and let me go. I'll go now
Listening to your comparisons of western vs original content, reminds me of one of my gripes with the live action Ghost In The Shell. They completely took out my favorite scene, the minutes long track through the different neighborhoods of the city. Arguably one of the best scenes ever in anime.
Where has this guy been? I need him to do Neon Genesis Evangelion.
hope your alright Kap!
The return of the greatest editor on RUclips. Thank you for your hard work.
Edit: I hope I'm not accidentaly deifying you by attributing the editing to you alone! If there is anyone who works with you on your videos they deserve equal appreciation as well!
Awesome video! And the cuts that align the movements within the shots are excellent!
This man said "Ight I'm back."
kaptainkristian.
ahhh, now there's a name i haven't heard in a long time.
when are you coming back? :(
Probably Late November or December.

This video is really well edited and just thought of in general.
OHHH YOU'RE BACK THANK GOD!! I ENJOY YOUR CONTENT SO MUCH!!
No Castle of Cagliostro? Kinda bummed that it didn't get mentioned...
I suppose it wasnt an official Studio Ghibli work, but it definitely was a project Miyazaki worked on. Regardless I'm satisfied with this video and all it discussed, this RUclipsr has a way with presentation, stellar video
@@samn6760 Dude it was his Debut! Its were everything started.

Ikr, this movie is freaking underrated and also his first animated movie, too bad its not considered as a ghibli and (almost) nobody talks about it! :/

Why do ur videos always get me all emotional?
Keep up the great work
Dude, your editing is killer. It flows so well and highlights your points perfectly. I've been binging your content. Awesome job
