- In today's video I compare Dutch brewed Hollandia Vs Australian brewed Heineken due to an interaction I had with a customer in the Dan Murphys bottle shop I work at here in Australia.

Great video, mate. The bottom line is that imported European lager will always smash anything that’s brewed locally under licence. Using sugar or other similar adjuncts is not uncommon. Most Australian macro lagers have cane sugar in them. It increases the ABV but keeps the body light. Crown Lager is a notable exception, being an all malt lager. Anything brewer under the German purity law is obviously all malt too. Cheers!
Cheers Hef! I didn’t realise the macro Aussie lagers use sugar, what I have noticed is that I find Crown Lager to taste the closest to a German Helles, makes sense now you say it’s all malt lager! I love the German purity law, wish it was here haha cheers!
An asset to Dan Murpheys 👏👏
lol doing what I can for the people!
In the USA, both are imported from Holland. In my thinking, I'd prefer Heineken, although I would have to do a blind taste challenge, to be sure.
Cheers for the comment mate! Lucky you! I do think I prefer Heineken, I love the real stuff!
As always, great video. We have a lot of great Aussie beers so I'll never understand buying an international beer brewed here under supervision.
Cheers mate, appreciate it!
Yeah I agree, I think people don’t realise, but so true, so many other great options!
Glucose syrup in Hollandia = added sugar. I don't like added sugar in beer and I don't know why they do it. Inexpensive Euro lagers like Oettinger have no sugar and taste great! Some English beers have added sugar, like Shepherd Neame, which is very disappointing. BUT - the comparison between the two beers is very good to watch. I will never purchase the Australian Heineken after watching this review so thank you, Boydo!
Thank you mate! Yes I agree about the added sugar, why do they do it! How good is a can of Oettinger! Great stuff!
Thanks for the support, cheers mate, glad you won’t waste any time of Australian brewed Heineken!
@@BeersWithBoydo I reckon Oettinger, at $60 for a case of 24 x 500ml cans, would have to be the best value beer in Australia, Boydo. Apart from that, it's lovely beer and obviously very well-made.
Hey mate, just came accross your channel. I like both beers and cant really tell the difference personally. We are over in Tauranga, New Zealand and actually Heineken 12 pack cans are only $24 at the everyday normal price (cheaper than the bottles). Hollandia 6 packs come down to $12 on special for a 6 pack every now and then. So Heineken cans are really cheap over this side of the ditch.
Hey mate, thanks for the comment, I would be interested to know where those 12 pack of Heineken cans are brewed? Sometimes here in Sydney we get smaller Heineken cans and they are unbelievable but then you read the packaging and they are imported from Holland and that’s why!
I’ve noticed the Heineken Silver sold in Australia is brewed in New Zealand and I’m yet to try it, interested to see!
Cheers mate
@@BeersWithBoydo All our standard Heineken, including the 12 pack cans, is brewed by DB Breweries in Auckland. You probably know, but they are one of the main large breweries in NZ. I like it, but i dont quite have the same taste test abilities as other people with telling differences etc.
@@jeremypgiles ah very interesting, mate the Australian Heineken you don’t need any special tasting abilities. It’s so bad, what makes it worse is having side by side something, I hate dissing Heineken because I genuinely love the Dutch brewed stuff! I’m actually heading on a cruise in November that stops in a few spots in NZ so I’m definitely going to try the Heineken there! Cheers mate
