Some of this is incorrect. They will be able to message you. Not sure why you've assumed they won't be able to message you. You aren't able to message them but they can message you. You just don't get a notification and if you enter the chat the message will not show as read on their side. The whole chat gets sent to privacy settings. I have personally tested this too, they are definitely able to message you.
Thank you! I made a fake account and tried this and restricted my main acct. The person you restrict can still message you (but you cant message them while they are restricted)
@minuka So I can read the message of a restricted message if I want to by going to the chat, but I won't get a notification, right?
@@khansaaab yes. If you have restricted the person in messenger and then they send you a message, you can read it while they are restricted. It will not appear read. Keep in mind that the message will remain unread until you message back.

You're right. I tried it using my dummy account and I can still message my personal messenger.
I have quite a few of my friends restricted and yes they will not be able to see you when you are active however if they do send you a message you will be able to see it and read it without them knowing.
messages will show either sent or delivered...Even if the person is online he or she will not answer or will take a very long time to reply to your messages because there is no notification that would alert or ring up the person
I know that when you restrict someone that person won't know when you're online on messenger but do they know when you're online on Facebook
you cant see their picture either it disappears..but you can still see them in your chat list..

When the person restricted calls does it show them as busy?
I had some one do this while we were in the middle of a conversation and i saw a bell with a line thru it for a split sec so yea it did tell me i was muted

i resitcted for fun and now i cant find them lol how do i find them so i can unrestrict them
The three lines by your profile picture in messenger- followed by the gear ⚙️ icon. From there view privacy , and you will see restricted accounts , you can remove them from there.
Typed their name in the search box if you remember or maybe you can find them in settings and privacy amongst your block list?
Will your chat history with them come back after you unrestrict them, or does it stay gone forever?
