  • Here it is....the teardown of the 30 year old, 276k SAAB B212i engine. This engine suffered a rod bearing failure on cylinder #1, something I found very odd since it is the rod that is closest to the engine's oil supply pump. In theory, it should have received ample supply of oil unless the problem was elsewhere. After disassembly, you can see that all of the bearings in the engine were near death as it appears the engine was starved of oil at some point one too many times before I took possession of the car. It is also possible that the oil pick-up tube o-ring had failed causing a loss in oil pressure.....after all this is a 30 year old engine. But for it to reach 276k before failing is a real testament to SAAB'S tough engines AND EVEN AFTER THE FAILURE......IT WAS STILL RUNNING AND DIDN'T SLING THE ROD!!
