Important looking bit at 18:22 is for the power steering pump mounting. Something to do with stopping it from twisting when you're tightening the bolt to secure it to the engine mount. The car would work without it being installed so someone may have left it there after some work and not realised they had missed that bit out of the job.

Another fantastic video Memphis! It might sound churlish considering all your hard work but watching your videos, hearing the gentle whir of power tools together with your mellifluous voice and seeing the project leap forward is one of the most relaxing ways to unwind. Your attention to detail and skill set leaves me deeply impressed 👏👏👏

You do good work hung over. Couldn't help but notice the Saab alternator uses a similar mount as the Golf and the power steering pump is from a 70s General Motors set up. Your friend who painted the engine bay did a great job as well. I would buy the first round if I ever could drink with you guys. Keep the video coming. Great job 👏

Next time mix water with some soap and apply to your garage floor to keep the dust down while painting.

BRILLIANT ! I admire all your work in 'reviving' this old SAAB. So much work, but that engine bay looks FAB ! I've had 4 SAAB 900s and loved every one of them - my last one, I had for 18 years. Thanks for sharing your hard work with us - looking forward to your next video. Take care 🙂

6:29 amazing how many vehicles have Saginaw power steering pumps as OEM, this General Motors product was everywhere for over 3 decades, perhaps even 4.
Dunno how common they are for OEM use today though.

That SAAB engine gearbox combo comes apart really nicely. I am a bit inspired to tackle my Volvo engines. I know they have been done to death, but not by me. Taking the engine and box out of the car first is a good idea. Putting it back in the right order is the challenge. Nice work.

Absolutely love when you post a new video, awesome work!!
Just a few friendly tips for you. The timing cover is supposed to go back on the engine before the cylinder head and the gearbox so if you put it back with the head on the engine it often leaks between the head and cover where the two bolts are. So make sure it won't leak.
And if the upper control arms in the front suspension is rusty or bad, you can only replace the left one with the engine still in the car. But I assume you are going the sand blast and paint them 😊

Im also reviving an early 80s 900 turbo, I cant wait for the day I can get this level of detail into the restoration. Theres so many cavities in that engine bay for dirt to get into that Ive owned the car for 7 months and am still finding rats nests when working on a new system.

Memphis, You are doing an amazing job! Thanks for the great content. The garage build was extremely enjoyable (I wish I could find the quality kit that you used, here in the states). I remember a SAAB 900 Turbo that I appreciated back in the late 80's that I was interested in and another that I did some work on for a customer of mine in the 90's (High end audio/electronics, wide body kit, and other mods). Love the channel :) Keep up the great work!
