  • Have you ever wondered what exercises or stretches you should be doing outside of the dance studio as part of your dance training?
Perhaps you're looking for some new movements to add to your own personal workout routine?
Join us as we walk you through 5 of our very own ballroom dancing inspired exercises that we use to strengthen and condition our bodies for training and competitions.
A brief summary of the exercises:
    1. Arm circles with straight arms moving in a backwards direction.
    2. Vertical climber stretches lifting arms straight over head and lifting the opposite heel and hip up as you reach to the ceiling.
    3. Rib isolations with arms straight out to the side.
    4. Lateral side squeezes in full ballroom frame (elbows out to the side and creating a 90 degree through the elbow).
    5. Rotation twists in full ballroom frame.
We hope you enjoy this video and please join us in doing the exercises with us too!
Stick around till the end and we will perform all exercises in a continuous sequence to music.

It’s funny you say that Christina! There are so many “types” of fitness and “dance fitness” is definitely unique. Most people very rarely train or move with their arms raised at shoulder height or higher and so people always get quite a shock and feel the burn especially in the shoulders 😂 We love that you tried the exercises along with us and if you continue to practice those exercises regularly you will definitely notice your strength and flexibility will improve pretty quickly 😊

@@jtballroom Yes! Also, for the follower...what can I do to avoid painful neck from trying to "keep left"? I struggle with neck pain so perhaps I'm doing something not right. 🤔

    • @jtballroom
      @jtballroom  2 года назад

Okay great, we’ll be sure to make one of those too 😉😊
That’s a really good question Iris.
Perhaps you could try stretching up as well as back and to feel that you still have a long neck even when it is out in its position!
It shouldn’t cause you pain 🙂

My neck tends to drop while my sternum bends back. Please share a link when you make a video to help ladies. Thanks!

Hey Yvonne thanks for commenting 😊 That is a struggle for many dancers. We will definitely try to make a video on this topic in the future. Our advice is to start slow and with less dynamic shape and work your way into a bigger shape without compromising your upper spine 👍🏼 It might take some time but don’t worry, it’ll be worth it in the end 😊

Question about practice frame... is there a reason the left hand (for man ) points in a different direction in practice than in partner dancing? I see men practicing with there left palm facing forward sometimes (even Marcus Hilton)... but when partner dancing it is more towards the partner...why not practice the way it is in real dancing?
