Dear Dude, 'Any Slob with a Ink Printer, a eBay empty plastic slab holder, and a good color copier can do fake cards if they want to rip people off.' For this very reason, I'm thinking about taking things a step further if I myself, decide to slab some of my own cards. What I am thinking I may do, will be to purposely create a slab, that Includes my name, and state a grade, then back it up via the included data, with how I came to the score. just thinking out loud...

You're a decent man for sharing these stories, none of us are perfect. The "fakes" were actually well done but I did think that the back of the '88-'89 Jordan looked faded or maybe sun bleached? The Slab not having the PSA Label was a dead giveaway. We all live and learn but it does suck that scammers are EVERYWHERE!

Flipvestors are destroying the hobby just as fast. Because flipvestors who openly admit that they only see dollar signs are inadvertently keeping the scammers in business. If all you see are dollar signs when it comes to trading cards, then scammers see the same thing when it comes to flipvestors.

Very big of you to share the experiences. In the greater scheme of things, a few hundred bucks is really nothing. A suggestion that may confer some satisfying resolution: eat the cost and burn the cards. This video is a decent warning against the dangers of greed - but honestly, every man needs to learn that lesson first hand. If you really want to make a concrete contribution, perhaps more symbolic than effective against the forgery complex, burn the cards and have a nice glass of whiskey by the fire.

The biggest reason I left the hobby in the early 2000s was because the internet was still fairly scammers were very rampant. Hello. Just stumbled across your video. PSA slabs prior to 2015 do not have the lighthouse logo on it, so it is possible to have a Kobe rookie slabbed without it. But, yeah, the authentication number is the issue, so someone created a fake label. IMO, the Kobe card itself is probably legit, but likely wouldn’t grade as a 10 if resubmitted (which is probably why the fake label was created in the first place). Thanks for sharing!

As a kid, I loved nothing more than playing baseball, watching baseball, and collecting baseball cards. A while back I had heard a story about the value of cards going up, so I had a ton of fun going through my old cards. But when I started looking into what the hobby is like now, I was absolutely and completely let down by what I saw. The way I see it now, the sports card hobby is just another place to feel disappointed in humanity. I am just going to put my cards back in the closet and let them collect dust, because that sounds like more fun to me than engaging with the losers and the scumbags that make up the sports card hobby.

@@TheSportsCardTeachers I mean it’s great to look for a 3rd party that sells things, but I played Magic the Gathering since I was 8. I’m 36 now.
In TCG’s you always have to be on the lookout for fakes. I know a guy who bought $2k worth of cards, and they were quality fakes, but as people who have played the game for a long time, we knew the second he had them out they were fake.
The sole difference between the real one and the fakes is that the cards are printed with 2 sides, and in the middle is a black piece of paper.
The sole way to know they are fake is to look at them with a high powered flashlight and if any light goes through them, they are dark blue in the middle.
That is the difference between a fake and real card.
So while Mercari might be an interesting place, unlike a registered seller, you get what you pay for.
Honestly it also happens on Amazon as well. Amazon sells their products through 3rd party dealers and you can buy a box that has been re-sealed.
Mercari doesn’t have buyers protection like eBay or a store does. And that is the risk you take.
On the other hand you could have sold that to someone else and kept the cycle going which you didn’t do.
And I mean if it’s an old card, when it’s in too good condition, avoid it like a plague.
*also I own a mini industrial printer, a regular printer, a 3D printer, and I’m better at making most photoshopped images than anyone at Topps.
I am probably better at making fakes than Topps is.
It would probably cost me $3 to make a colorblast and if I get the correct paper, nobody would know.
But alas, I suffer an issue. I’m lazy.

I had turned the card in for grading and didn’t get back for like 2 months. I had already accepted the card so they offered no help.

Did it ever seem too good to be true? Did you ever scratch your head and think damn this Jordan looks like it was printed with ink jet home printer and the slab is light as shit and doesn't weigh anything and is missing the PSA label and it took u 4 days? Then u still think dude didn't know? Then you say you don't know if the card is fake but the slab is????? Do they put real Kobe rookies in fake PSA SLABS bro really? That would be a failed business model

China is probably who's doing it. And what I've determined is that if something seems way too good to be true, it is. 90% of the time, at least. If I see a $1,000 card for $100, I won't even slow down. I just keep scrolling.

Geez I can spot those fakes a mile away. Listen here is the deal if that was a real card it would of been graded in that shape. Why would someone sell that for 125 if they could send it in amd get a 9 and sell it for several thousands.. period. Geez man they saw you coming

It does happen from time to time, but you gotta zoom in closely to analyze the cards. Sometimes I take screen shots to increase the contrast, definition and sharpness and you always identify the fakes. But, sometimes sellers are lazy and buy a storage locker or sell,a box from a yard sale and they don’t have the time or patience to research. It’s rare nowadays, but, happens.

Listen here is the deal, a lot of people don't grade cards and a PSA 9 1988 Jordan doesn't sell for anywhere close to a couple thousand
