If you like Sherlock Holmes, you will love Dr Thorndyke. While has Holmes gives us the results of the scientific tests he uses to examine evidence, Thorndyke actually describe the processes of the scientific tests (and it is amazing how many forensic tests we use today, were introduced 100 years ago). Also, Freeman's criminals are rounded characters, whereas Doyle's baddies are ciphers - we don't get much insight into their character & motivations.
Yep, a lot in common with Sherlock Holmes. Also, if you like Columbo, this is where the howcatchem genre traces back to (as opposed to the whodunnit). He explicitly says, 'I thought I'd try out this other approach to a detective story and see if I can make it work' (and it does).
Difficult to judge how good Freeman's stories are based on this dreadful reading : garbled , monotonous , erratic sentence breaks and utter lack of " feeling " for the various incidents of the story . I realise the readers are volunteers but surely there must be some minimum standards ? Quite awful !
I really enjoy the Thorndyke stories. Many thanks to the narrator for reading them, a job well done.
I appreciate the work these volunteers do to bring these wonderful stories to us. This reading was just fine, I enjoyed listening.
Glad you enjoyed it

I agree
Thanks.
Thanks
Can only listen to this at 0.75 play back speed. Sounds like he's had a few but better than gabbling on at break neck speed!

I dont agree at all! The writing suits itself perfectly for a non dramatic approach.....
Thank you so much! Lovely detecting!
By " non dramatic " I assume you mean flat , monotonous and
devoid of all emotion ?
