Marvellous ! What voices! What diction ! And a plot as ingenious as any of Dame Agathas. In fact , she may have even borrowed some elements of it ? Well worth looking out for Dr Thorndyke books in charity shops ! Intelligent, civilized entertainment of highest order.
Such a shame that Molly Hardwick's other Thorndyke adaptation for Saturday Night Theatre seems to be missing 🙁 It was 'Corpse In The Case' (9th June 1962) and based on Dr Thorndyke Intervenes.. This is tremendous though..
A play adapted by MOLLIE HARDWICK from the novel by R. AUSTIN FREEMAN with Anthony Nicholls and Peter Coke Mr. Pottermack led a pleasant life, with his garden, his hobbies, and his friend Alice. But over it lay the shadow of a sundial. with Stephen Thorne Pianist, VIOLA TUNNARD Produced by BETTY DAVIES Broadcast on September 14. 1963
An excellent play - however I'm concerned that the coroner did not catch on - it's a worry - given the age of the bones would have differed considerably.....
Dental records were never requested and the finger nails of the mummy bore evidence of mummification. The inquest shaped the outcome of the inquiry based on acceptable evidence. I think I hv listened to too many of these wonderful Brit crime stories that I attempt to solve cases! Question. Why is the act of auctioning mortal remains is not seen as a crime of sacrilege at best and the mistreatment of mortal remains in the least. These ancient peoples should be left in eternal rest.
Philip HEMA, This is fiction, but would you complain about the moving of a graveyard to build on, or an archialogoical dig in ancient cemeteries, or divers removing artifacts from sunken vessels declared a graveyard. I think even now let alone 60 years ago this is not so strange, for collectors/scientists.
My second time listening to this wonderful play. Brilliant actors and a terrific story. Thank you.

Great story with an unusual conclusion. The great think about radio is we use our imagination to picture the events and characters.

Peter Coke in some other rôle than the hackneyed Paul Temple, showing some class. A beautifully wrought tale.
Peter Coke is a sublime actor!

Got to love it when a career criminal calls someone a "whippersnapper" during a fight!

Please, please people stop putting up spoilers.
redemption is a beautiful thing!
Justice would seem to have been done.
Does this one feature Peter Coke? It sounds like him. Ah, goggled, and yes it is Peter Coke as Mr. Pottermack.
He has a very distinctive voice, doesn't he?

Perhaps you should attempt a murder mystery of your own ?
