Domestic settings use to be a novelity, but now they are common, if not mandatory. That's not bad, just uniform. I always like to believe we live in large world full wonder, not small world, where there is nothing new.
Dang, Ian is a true renaissance man! Voice actor, author, composer...what can't he do? 😎🔥🙌
"Low, liquid, mini voweled words" is great description
Excellent. Thank you Mr Gordon and Horror Babble. Until next time.
Great choice Ian, C.A.S has a style of writing, that even to this day very few come close to match it. Also great job on sound, and music overlay....you never cease to impress my friend, keep up the great work....
And thanks once again for the kind words Nikolai! Ian
This story is actually the sequel to An Offering To The Moon, woukd you vonsider reading that as well? Between these 2 stories and Out Of The Aeons you would have covered the tales of lost mu by both Lovecraft and Clarkash-ton. @HorrorBabble
At first the music reminded me of a Satie Gymnopedie...
Very nice!
I thought the same!! Both are very melodic
Ah yes it rather does...stellar writing Mr. Gordon
Such beautiful music.
I could probably happily listen to stereo instructions by this narrator
I completely agree with that lol!
I have been falling asleep to this guy's voice for 2 years. It's one of the few things that works.
DaemeoNation I just woke up and had to play it again to hear how it ended 😂
@@johnl9677 I have a volume 1 of Clark Ashton Smith stories. I think I will start a channel and read some for everyone.
John L I wish these guys had another channel for speculative fiction that won’t give nightmares when you fall asleep. My old favorite was the podcast “Far Fetched Fables”
The music is capturing, reminds me a little of the melody of Bookends. Very thoughtful. Thanks too, for the story 🙏🏽📖
Thanks as always John! Ian
so many of us have more than one talent. you, too - obviously. the music and voice mingled beautifully. 🍃
All I can say is ... Thank you.
Love your music. Beautiful ❤️
Thank you!
One of my favorites..thank you
Thank you Ian
Amazing, I've just started getting into Clark Ashton Smith and I haven't read this one yet, thank you very much.
I recommend the following collection Jamie, if you can find a copy: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Out_of_Space_and_Time
Wonderful, I'll definitely try to find a copy thank you. Also if you have any other suggestions for Authors that would be brilliant. The main ones I've read are HP, Algernon and Clark
Jamie Cameron, some of my favs are " The 7 geases" "The double shadow" and of course "The black Abbott of Pulthoom"... Check them out, I believe that at least a few of those are all ready done by Ian on this channel.....good luck my friend.
Jamie Cameron , also if your looking for some good authors I suggest, Tomas Ligotti, Peter Rawlik, Joe Pulver, Jeffery Thomas, and Laird Barron.....hope this helps..
Nikolai Hanuschak - Wow, you're little list of recommendation is right up my alley. I, too, like the CAS stories you listed in particular.
I've read this more than once myself when I was younger. Excellent job as usual. I've always wondered if the captain Melville in the beginning of the story is a nod to Herman Melville?
Excellent narration! Thank you!
Very Poesque. Reminscent of MS. Found in a Bottle.
Fantastic story and narration!
I'm so glad your works opened my eyes to C.A.S. I cannot believe I never read this, nor many if his works prior to finding your channel.
I love the description of the Isle, people, buildings, the ships, the oars, and everything.
Great music piece too! Fantastic work! You are a narrator and composer extraordinaire!
Thanks for bringing this true gem to us.
Very good.Enjoyed this immensely.Thank you.
A personal favourite of mine. Thanks John!
That was amazing!... Thank you for posting the video.
Well done as always on the reading, the intro music was beautiful
Wow that was a trip
Just came across this one. Great job Ian. You should also ‘The Seed From The Sepulcher’ 😱
''At the island of madness..''
Outstanding!
Narrator has a bit of Malcolm McDowell about him. You can rely on me, Fred.
AWESOME !!!!!! :-)
"irremeable" - there's a word you don't hear every day.
Or ever before, as far as I recall. :-)

I can't help think of this as a horror version of Gilligan's Island.
This is Clark Ashton Smith, so I am expecting a monster.
Love your stuff time to light my pipe by the fire place in my castle
That was fuckin clean.
I would like to suggest Ubba Sathala by Clark Ashton Smith
Does Ubbo-Sathla form part of a series by CAS?
All I know is that it is a short story by him.
I'll take a look Austen.
Thank you
The double shadow would be great.
Island.
Fantastic story, literally. However, I can't forgive him for not rescuing the child! Since no one seemed to see him, it would have been easy for him to swoop in and the little one would be scooped through the air. That would have been something for his rescuers to wonder over.
Only in madness could he traverse the barrier...
I wonder why they paid no heed to him yet he could touch them; use their possessions and even eat their food ! 😏
It was almost as if they were out of perceptual phase with each other.
Hahaha why does it always rain and thunder in Georgian Bay when we decide to listen to you weave a tale
Capt Melville , as in Herman ?🐳
I'd have stayed there 😜
it was the Dragon Triangle
Where can I get the music that was composed for this story?
It's part of this collection: iangordon.bandcamp.com/album/exercises-in-audible-dread-2022
Thanks for your interest!
@@HorrorBabble thank you
The narrator of this story probably went through, the Dragon's triangle, the Bermuda Triangle of the Pacific Ocean.
A likely interpretation - it was the first thing that occurred to me when I first read the story as a kid. Ian
CAS fucks with it. In the best possible way.
Does he remember anything of importance? What a lazy load of old bunkum. 😕
Just rambles on and on and on..... AVOID this one!
If I were him I would have taken greater advantage of the situation and would have never gone back into the temple after my first look it's their faith not mine real people who don't give a damn about your presences people who ignore you even when you shout at them ,but are just as solid as you are you can sleep in their home without notice I'd take an ax and cut wood adding it to the boat to improve it's stability in the water and cloth for a sail and catch the strange fish too not only as food ,but as proof the main character doesn't mention a wife or girlfriend and there are young people since they don't notice you find one without a man of her own if she doesn't care then take her along if she wanders off while your back is turned then and I know this sounds bad ,but tie her up and put her in the boat she can help with the rowing if she notices you at last try to communicant if the people are so oblivious then I don't think they'll care if she's gone ( I KNOW IT SOUNDS BAD ) but...
