Hey Trent, just wanted to say I love the aesthetic of this game! It's really impressive you were able to make that with such a small team.
The game is looking beautiful, Trent. I wonder what kind of music you're planning for that rainy, cozy scene. I bet seeing your story come to life bit by bit is incredibly fulfilling. It's inspiring to watch it from afar. Wish you the best on this project and with this amount of hard work it just has to be a hit.
Simplying the artstyle, yeah, I learned that lesson when I started doing animation, painfully realizing why pros never draw detailed characters in motion. 😅 It's really hard to give up on the details when you've done illustrations your whole life, but it's necessary if you're ever gonna get anything done. Especially as a one-man-team.

"Simplified art style that I could do, that I 'enjoy' doing." 😮🤯 That says why I am pulled more towards cel-shade and pixel art. That phrase I will keep, it has started to serve a great purpose. Just like how your phrase of "Fall in love with drawing, the way you wan't to draw" has helped me. And helped me avoid bitterness.

Since I am working on my own metroidvania, with that kind of simplified cartoony style I noticed that all of your assets are done on a single layer. Is that just another example of streamlining the process?

My dudes! This salsa give me energy to seize the day! Trent, you truly are a machine, doing consistent vids on top of managing a game developement!
The game itself looks super cool, my only gripe is that it could use a little bit more vfx, like shiny effects to strikes. So far it looks a bit drab! But it is a active developement, so i don't know what i am talking about!

Why are the portraits so small in the dialogue boxes? The dialogue boxes are big black capsules with the interesting portrait art squished in the corner. The art of this game is going to be a key selling point! I'm gonna be buying this game because I'm a fan of your art. Let me see the art!!!
As mentioned in the video, there are hundreds of portraits. I can either put my time into the game, or portraits.
I wonder... if you have drawn so much like this, could you potentially build a GPT model on your own data to generate more characters for you more quickly and then you could just do the final touch ups and customizations? 🤔

The combat style need to be more varied
