    In defense of agent of order, it literally requires no action economy and procs on damage. It doesn't even specify it has to be on your turn. Meaning you could combo it with something like spirit guardians and lock down multiple enemies on their turns. Even if it's limited use, I can see it being pretty fight winning

      It made me want to make an undead warlock 1/ cavalier 19. With this, plus squire of solamnia and polearm master, you can theoretically restrain all creatures trying to get past you (up to 5 due to pb limit) but you can singlehandedly hold off a whole horde of enemies. And if something is trying to run or fly away, it’ll still proc with something like eldritch blast. Or say you’re riding an enemy dragon, the lvl 10 hold the line reaction procs off of enemy movement withing 5 ft of you so if the dm allows it, you can bonk the dragon you’re riding and either try to have it get 0 speed or restrain it with the agent of order feat

    this book is honestly really good! not too many player options, but with a setting as vast as planescape and a single book to cover it, it was the right call and it paid off. Way above the usual quality we've come to expect from WotC and a great way to introduce the setting for the new generation of the game! I'm honestly impressed, it surpassed my expectations a lot. Definitely a recommended buy for 5e players looking to get into the setting, and it's been a long time since I last said that about a WotC release.

      I really wanted the factions to have a piety like system but they didn't do it. I think the factions is like the most interesting thing about Planescape.

      @@PackTactics I wish piety-like systems were a more standard part of the game. Like it could be cool for the new DMG to have a guide on how to make piety systems with a drop and play example.

      @@PackTactics I completely agree! in the outer planes, belief shapes reality, and since the factions are shaped around beliefs, having them grant you special powers makes perfect sense. In fact, back in 2e, they literally did - PCs would get extra little powers based on their faction. Would've been awesome to see that in the 5e iteration as well.

    I wish they hadn't made these abilities into feats but instead into boons, akin to the ones in CoS. Like you said, they are too weak to consider picking unless it's for story reasons, and they're not really viable for non-planescape games anyway.
    Also would make me stop getting up my hopes that we actually get some new character building options for 5e lol.

  • @JMSginoclave
    @JMSginoclave 11 месяцев назад +3

    6:45 I don't believe Disruption Field implies the feat-haver is affected by it: "within 5 feet of" means "in a 5 feet radius from", a condition which (since you *are the reference point* ) you don't meet. Same as Spirit Guardians, whose casters don't tend to name themselves.
    The removed wording seems just meant to avoid redundancy.

    • @arcticbanana66
      @arcticbanana66 11 месяцев назад +2

      That's most likely the intended reading of Disruption Field, since it doesn't specify that it also affects you like Wailing Winds does, but it's still going to be very common for people to interpret it that you count as being within 5 feet of yourself.

    As probably one of the few that played the original Planescape: Torment back when it was released, I will say that it IS a great game, but it's one of those games where the ROLE part of RPG actually counts. Like BG3, most players won't see 90% of the options, but they're there, and for a game that old, it's really impressive.

  • @XperimentorEES
    @XperimentorEES 11 месяцев назад +1

    What's with wotc obsessively limiting every decent effect with 'once per turn'? Again have to say I like the setting but hate the implementations, seriously there's no good reason to take any of those feats because they're either situational or a hindrance or just worse than previously established feats.
    Planar wanderer is still quite risky unless you're playing a wizard artificer or a skillmonkey, taking 3d8 psychic damage at level 4 is brutal and could potentially down players or be lethal if the party is trying to escape a dangerous encounter.

    I personally think Agent of Order looks like pretty good half feat for casters (If you get the prerequisite feat for free). Pros and Cons:
    +Competition for Int/Wis/Cha half feats is pretty low, Telekinetic and Fey Touched being the usual ones.
    +It has the "best" resistance from the prerequisite feat. (Force)
    +It has no cost in action economy, simply happens.
    +It's very easy to trigger, and can consistently be done outside of your turn if wanted. Make them save to or still be stuck inside your Moonbeam, Spirit Guardians. etc.
    +On demand restrain is highly effective against flying foes, making them fall.
    +The creature you'd want to restrain are usually better at physical saves rather than Wisdom Saves.
    +Lets caster impose even more control without using concentration.
    - Low amount of daily uses. If you often find yourself run low on resources consider other options.

Now it says anyone within 5 feet of you takes damage which doesn't affect you, similar to things like word of radiance

    I have mixed feelings about tongues and the outlands emissary feet. On the one hand, I do think most parties should have the spell since language barriers can seriously limit your ability to solve problems, so I consider it a good spell. On the other hand, every full caster except druid can learn it, so getting the spell added to your apells known/prepared is less valuable, compared to fey touched letting you grab a strong first level spell. It's also not a spell you need every day, while a lot of the best spell choices for fey touched will be used almost every day.

    • @Kirk9019
      @Kirk9019 11 месяцев назад

      Just take both feats. TWO free castings of Misty Step per day sounds insane. I'm imagining an eladrin monk with fey-touched (pick bless) and the outlands feats. 5 teleports per day on top of the high mobility that monk already provides without even needing spell slots is crazy

    • @FallenFromGlory
      @FallenFromGlory 7 месяцев назад

      Monk isnt exactly good, neither is misty step. Misty step is only really helpful if you've messed up your positioning- and that shouldn't happen so often you cant make due with spell slots. Take it with fey touched, use it, but don't rely on it.@@Kirk9019

    I really don't understand why they changed Agent of Order from UA to be based on the modifier of the spellcasting ability you picked for Scion of the Outer Planes. In UA, it was based on the modifier of the ability you increased with Agent of Order, and I honestly don't think that would've made it so much better that it had to be changed. Every single other one of the Planescape feats is more or less equally usable on martials and casters (barring extra spell slots for Outlands Envoy's spells), so it seems really odd that they made this one suddenly worse for martials.

    Planescape: Torment is "ancient"?
    Heh, not sure what that makes me then, as I was 40+ years old when it came out.... :)
    I still consider it one of my fave RPGs of all time, with only BG1 and BG2 above it and Diablo1, Diablo2 and the Icewind Dale games about equal.,
    Yes, I very much enjoyed the Elder Scrolls games as well but as they are 1st Person, not isometric 3rd person, I place them in a different category.
    So far, I haven't been seeing any glowing reports regarding the new Planescape DM Book but since I am fully aware of the mindset that WotC is lately adhering to, I don't give a tinkers damn about this release anyway. Also, I still have ALL my original Planescape materials, including 1st box set, the DM and PC handbooks, all the Monster Manuals and about 10+ modules.
    I've had no issues converting them to utilizing 5E game tools either. :)
    Sadly, the originals can be pretty pricy on say EBay or wherever, otherwise I'd recommend them. So if a DM grabs this new book and uses it just as a basis, it may work for them.?

    Hi Kobold!
    Love the content!
    I'm currently running a Planescape campaign, using 2nd Ed. era material plus some light homebrewing.
    Scion of the Outer Planes I allow as just another Feat (but in Old Planescape it makes for a sub-mid option at best), and Planar Wanderer I ban outright.
    And I almost never ban anything (chronomancer wizard I'm looking at you).
    If such abilities were atainable by getting a Feat, then that Feat would become compulsory for anyone wanting to play a planewalker. Not to mention that the existence of the Feat would alter how the setting works as a whole.
    Just my two cents.

    I am weighing up Agent of Order vs Fey Touched on my Enchantment Wizard at level 5 (has an Arti level). Three, no action restrains is great; if they make the save against Tasha's Mind Whip, they still take half damage so you can apply Agent of Order. I am weighing it against a free use of Misty Step and a free use of Command as well as having those two spells known which I get from Fey Touched.

    It feels annoying that the last player material for pre-2024 d&d is so relatively barren of uniqueness while also being a valid option. I'm not even asking for it to be powerful, but I feel like they purposefully hold back on uniqueness for no reason.

    • @ether4211

      It's not the last, there's still the Deck of Many Things. 'Guide to Everything' are the Player focused books while Planescape is a setting book that adds setting specific features but mostly focuses on lore/DM tools. What makes Planescape unique is that it's character creation rules is 'anything and everything' meaning you can pick any race, class, feat or background combo published in 5e. It also introduced the Glitch mechanic which is brand new and unique to the 2023 version of Planescape.

      @@ether4211 am saying in general for the last books (keyword: material, not book). What we get from the book of many things also is not really that deep, as we get four weak af spells and one decent feat (unless you multiclass to make it busted).
      Excluding how planescape isn't a "free for all" (Dragonlance campaign pre-requisite lmao), i can see the planescape appeal... But planescape is a specific setting, and the stuff there isn't player stuff.
      the final content we get for pre-remaster 5e is super barren of material is my argument.

    • @ether4211
      @ether4211 11 месяцев назад

      @@gammalolman580 the reason why the Planescape book isn't full of setting specific character options is that it is that everything published in the PHB/DMG/Tasha/Xanthas is designed for Planescape characters as this is the default setting of 5e. Unless you rule that places like Dragonlance, Eberron or Critical Roll are cut off from Sigil there's no reason why players or DMs can't drop a Dragonlance, Eberron or character from any 5e compatible homebrew into a Planescape campaign.

    • @gammalolman580

    • @ether4211
      @ether4211 11 месяцев назад

      @@gammalolman580 and you are ignoring that Setting books were always about adding depth/lore for PCs/DMs to run a game in a specific place while many thing is focused on new items/tools for running the game. 5e already has over 40 races, subclasses feats and backgrounds to pick from PLUS any future content released under OneDND and homebrew/3rd party content so it makes sense that they would be focusing on new mechanics/ways to play DND over simply adding more of the same. It's also wrong to claim they lack depth when compared to books like Sword Coast Adventurers Guide as new books are focusing more on deeper character creation systems like stacking feats, and the new background with multiple sub options. This is why Planescape focuses on the Glitch mechanic as it gives players a way to build more than one PC to encourage people to use those races/classes feats in a game.

    No books are ever player books, there's Xanathar's and Tasha's and that's it. I really can't stand how little player content is in every book, they wonder why DM's buy the most products... It's because all the products are for DM's.
    I can't think of a single good reason for not including at least 1 subclass for every class, new feats(worth taking, which I didn't think I had to mention but these feats say otherwise lol) new mundane and magic items and at least one new weapon with an interesting combination of properties all related to the theme in EVERY book. At most 20 additional pages you would increase the buyer pool immensely. It's like they are scared to put out player content, and this predates the 2024 phb even being developed
