    One thing to note with Barbarian that I've only seen one person talking about it: Alchemist's Fire. You put it on yourself. It lasts until you put it out. 1d4 damage is a small price to pay for keeping your rage up, lads.

      Buy your DM a pizza or a six pack, tell them you've got a cool idea for something atypical that really isn't that broken, you'll probably be able to play a Barbarian that can cast/concentrate during Rage. If you get rid of that restriction entirely it's still not a broken combo and spending all of your slots on Hellish Rebuke makes melee a lot of fun. I love the Fiend Barblock.

As a side note I think this would be hilarious with ancestral guardian where if you *don't* attack thorns man you just have disadvantage, and also you delt 2d6 less.

    I made a similar build for a lv 10 1 shot. I only went 3 levels in Barb (as my table only has a few combats per rest and I wanted fire shield and higher level armour of Agathys)for ancestral guardian, to trade a bit of damage for some support for my party, and then went 7 in genie warlock to get a bit of extra damage and the mobility of flight. Pre cast armour of Agathys and fire shield, hit the boss and they either have to attack me and take 29 damage per hit or attack my ally for half damage and with disadvantage.

    Another good video. To be fair, there is another Barbarian build you could theory craft about.
    Basically this one you take your first level in Barbarian use the bonus feat to pick PAM. Then your second level you take a 1 level dip into Life Domain cleric. Next level you switch to Druid. I know you know the Life Berry trick. At this point you'll have 3 castings of 1st level spells.
    If you decide to stay in Barbarian you take Zealot. Rage Beyond Death is really really good with Life Berry. After the fight just pop a berry and you good.
    If you going to leave Barbarian then take Bear Totem. RAW you can wear heavy armor and get the damage reduction bonus from your Rage. Then your build is all about smashing stuff with a Pole Arm and getting the very nice Cleric spells. Battles where you don't Rage you can use spells like Spirit Guardians.
    Both are pretty good, but I prefer to go back to Cleric to finish out the career. It's so good!

    I have a great time playing my bear totem orc barbarian. He is our partys frontliner and allways gets buffed. Hes not really optimized, but at fifth level, he once dealt over 100 dmg in one round, haste, bless great weapon master, scored a crit which let me make my fourth attack. Next lvls will be fighter for action surge, so up to 6 attacks in an important moment. Battlemaster at lvl 8 to get more options to protect my party. Yeah, casters are more powerfull, but our wizzard and my barbarian allways watch out for the other, playing as a team, in combat and out of it, getting this great teambased moments.

    I had the same idea for the barbarian I'm currently playing. I actually decided to take berserker barbarian/celestial warlock with pact of the chain because it allows me to get greater restoration to remove exhaustion and not waste a feat on polearm master for a bonus action attack (because I like to play half orc). Also pact of the chain gives maximised healing as an invocation (including on hit dice and cure wounds, and the cure wounds come back every short rest so do it before the rest) on a class known for having low ac. Also the celestial warlocks healing ability works while raging. Because level 14 isn't "great" for celestial subclass you can also dip into fighter for an action surge. 8berserker barbarian/9celestial warlock/3? fighter.

    My favourite low level Barbarian tactic is going Ancestral Guardian and then using a Longbow or Crossbow.
    You lose out on a lot of damage, but by staying at range, you can cripple one melee enemy completely by more than halving their damage output against your frontline.

    About 2 years ago, I played in a Desert themed campaign as a Barbarian/Warlock. I went 2 levels of Barb, 3 levels of Marid Genie Warlock cuz my character worshipped Water.
    The first ever Combat we were in was against a Chimera that got loose from an Arena. I ran at it, cast Armor of Agathys at 2nd level, and Raged. It took 30 points of Cold Damage as a result of attacking me 3 times before my thp went away.
    At 6th level of Warlock I gained permanent resistance to Cold Damage and a Concentration-less non-spell flight that I could use as a Bonus Action. And Thirsting Blade helped me get Extra attack without too much additional delay. Then went another level into Barbarian and grabbed Zealot.

    Alternative for race pick: Loxodon. Before the hardcore optimizers get grumpy, hear me out: Loxodon's natural armor can make you INCREDIBLY hard to hit, so when combined with Rage, Armor of Agathys, and Dark One's Blessing, you can just EAT damage and laugh. Yes, you lose an attack, but you are CHUNKY as hell

      I know I'm very late to the party here, but your AC using the Loxodon in this build would be a 14 (it doesn't stack with Unarmored Defense because they're two completely different AC calculations). That AC is a whopping -3 compared to just using half-plate and the same as not using any armor at all. You're actually massively squishier using the beeg elephant race

      Loxodon is better than unarmoured defence if dexterity is 13 or less.

      @quetzalcoatlus1892 2 месяца назад

      @@lukenator115 "Loxodon is better than unarmored defense if your Dexterity is 13 or less"
      Yes, but your Dexterity is 14 with this build and you don't even want to use unarmored defense because it sucks.
      Otherwise, reaching 17 AC at a whopping 18th level by throwing away all your ASI at Con upgrades instead of getting useful feats or upgrading your main stat, rather than getting 17 AC at level 2-3 by buying half-plate is perhaps one of the worst advice I've ever heard regarding dnd 5E. Like, if I wanted to "build tank" as you say, which is a very poor way of building a Barbarian mind you, I could just do half-plate+shield and have 19 AC right at tier 1, and at that point I'd already be "tankier" than your build (I say "tank" because if you just wanted to build a character that's really hard to kill, any armor dipped caster will do that for you much easier. If you want a melee character that is very hard to kill, you can even do some Sorcerer 1/Forge Cleric X build with the Warforged race and not only that build is going to be so much more difficult to kill that in a game with both that character and the Loxodon Barb any encounter that minimally inconvenienced the Cleric would straight up kill the Loxodon, but the Cleric ALSO deals way more damage than that build). I suspect you've only ever played in no-optimization games, and there's nothing wrong with that, but that makes me think that your perceptions over what's strong or not in the game are so warped that I couldn't even convince you why your argument to me is so absurd both in a mathematical and practical level. What I heard you say was "Okay, but what if after self nerfing your race to switch from a mediocre 17 AC to a terrible 14 AC AND killing all your damage progression, you ALSO self-nerf all your ASIs in order to reach the initial pre-self-nerf AC at level 18, after a 17 AC stopped being even half-good 13 levels ago".

    hey @packtactics, i looked at the tabletop build, and i was wondering, would it be better to drop the last 2 levels of warlock, and instead go 2 levels in paladin?
    PROS
    +all arm and wep prof (good)
    +divine sense(meh)
    +lay on hands (meh)
    +tunnel fighter (utterly busted), great weapon fighting (very good), defense (good)
    +2 lvl 1 spell slots (meh)
    tunnel fighter, while youre raging, is INSANE. you can use your bonus action to attack anyone who moves 5ft within your attack range (which is now 15ft, with a glaive), until the start of your next turn. and you can still use your reaction attack to stop someones movement, if you need to. which means, if you stop their movement, they decide to dash, to move up to you, you hit them 2 more times for it xD even without raging, its still pretty good with polearm master and great weapon master. Problem with it is, it takes a bonus action, so its useless your first turn, when you rage, but the next 5 turns can be very tasty.
    CONS
    -Mystic Arcanum (Force Cage, Teleportation Circle)
    -Hurl through hell
    You keep all your warlock spell slots, and of the same level. Only BIG loss is the one shot hurl through hell potential, but smites kind of make up for that, and with the extra consistent damage from tunnel fighter/great weapon fighting, it should more than make up the damage. or, you can just go defense and get as tanky as possible, with little to no damage output loss.

    This is more like a melee fiend warlock build than a barbarian build. Most of the levels are in warlock, you concentrate on spells later on like darkness, fly and summon greater demon, so you don't even rage. Like you could do similar thing with putting 2-3 levels into fighter instead of 6 into barbarian and then the rest in warlock and getting the thirsting blade invocation and you're very similar to this build but get spells earlier.

    • @PackTactics
      @PackTactics  7 месяцев назад +1

      You don't have to concentrate on summon greater demon if it's well placed. Anyways, the reason why you have those spells is so you have backup. And no you absolutely can't with 2-3 fighter levels because this has reckless attacks and extra attack. That's consistent advantage all the time.

    • @5AMACE
      @5AMACE 7 месяцев назад

      @@PackTactics Extra attack can be replaced with thirsting blade invocation and reckless attack still has the downside of giving enemy advantage which makes you get hit basically every turn because of the very low 14 ac and I don't think rage is enough to save that. With the fighter, you'll not only be effective faster because of faster spell progression, but also because of eventual 8th (maddening darkness) and 9th level spells (true poly), higher ac with heavy armor and gives potential for even higher ac with magic item armors (which is also tankiness even if you decide to spellcast and concentrate), second wind out of combat which makes up for lower max hp (not that it matters that much with the constant temp hp), action surge, at level 3 subclasses rune knight (frost and cloud because of the low dc) or battlemaster. Don't get me wrong, I do like this build you show in the video, I love how it fits thematically, but I feel like it's an okay melee warlock rather than a good barbarian build.

      Not always. Usually you can find out who won the fight mid way through or even the 1st or 2nd round. And if it's more than 10 rounds, it's usually just clean up. DMs usually skip clean up fights and default kills because they're kind of boring to play out..

    Hey, you made a mistake in the build, as is it's not legal on some levels. You gain ASI's as per the class progression, since there's no exception for them in the multiclass rules as there are for other things, especially since some classes gain faster ASI's (Fighter, for example). Thus going to barbarian 6 means you won't gain your second ASI/feat from levels until level 10(warlock 4), and your third at lv14 (warlock 8). Don't know if you want to make further changes to the build because of that, but figured you'd like the heads up.

  • @gadgetronking4255

    I've actually been thinking about a Barbarian/Warlock multiclass for some time but what I came up with was a bit different.
    I went with celestial warlock instead and took pact of the chain for the invocation "gift of the everliving ones," this basically makes you a hell of a lot more tanky especially while raging since you can bonus action heal yourself which is maximized due to the invocation, if you have 14 charisma you can restore 12 hit points each turn as long as you still have healing light dice.
    As for the barbarian subclass the most thematic I guess would zealot, Bear totem obviously makes you a lot more tanky since it basically doubles any healing you gain but personally I would go with ancestral guardian to double down on the tanking aspect of this multiclass by encouraging enemies to attack you instead.

    - Tortle for Natural Armor (We’re dumping Dex, hang on tight)
    - Str 16, Con 16, Wis 13, Cha 13
    - Ancestral Guardian Barbarian 5 for Rage, Reckless, and the works
    - 2-level cleric dip for ritual casting and Twilight Sanctuary (not a spell so you can use it while raging)
    - 2-level Paladin dip for Divine Smite, then cleric all the way to the end for higher level smite slots
    - Regenerating temp HP + damage resistance from rage = crazy hard to kill
    - Ancestral protectors to impose disadvantage and halve the damage of attacks targeting anyone but you coupled with Twilight sanctuary means the rest of your party is even harder to kill than you are
    - Unlimited advantage let’s you crit fish with divine smite
    - Pick up polearm master for more attacks and tough for more HP (since the ancestral protectors feature requires you to hit, I would skip GWM so we can reliably apply the disadvantage)

  • @TheNoMoreGamer

    I love Barb but I think it has a bit of an identity crisis. Clearly the fantasy WotC has is a strong angry mortal front lining with damage and defense but I’d argue they don’t have any good options for any of these things. Their rage damage is abysmal and they have such a terrible limit on their rage. While resistance is nice I find in higher levels this quickly falls off as creatures can do many types of damage, and their unarmored feature sucks denying them AC. I like the giant subs but I’m not a fan of the become big features because it just gives enemies more spots to gather around you, which I know you could just play a bit more optimally but I have friends who want to live out the fantasy of bounding into the fray and smashing their foes, they feel discouraged because of how easily they get taken down. I understand WotC leaves it to the subs to spec more into defense or damage but I don’t think that’s an excuse for such lackluster base class abilities. Rage damage should add dice, d4s or d6s, unarmored should work with light armor or also add proficiency, and you should totally pick up more resistances as you go along.
