I didn't think much of Grappler at first when I seen him but, the more I see people play him, the more I'm like "he's such a cool character for a Grappler character".
Yeah same, i thought he looked basic - but i'd 100% main him if i ever played this.
He's cool but he has severe issues keeping up with the entire cast. His attacks are basic in that they're overpowered for a Street Fighter character but NOT for DNF duel where everyone outranges him and has way better pressure. He's get in, mixup or die. You're entirely betting on the enemy screwing up after you get the hang of him. You can perfect matches with him quickly alone, but only if you get in and spin the mental roulette right.

@@bloodyidit4506 I think giving Grappler some more armor for his specials would help him big time...He needs to be like the rest of the cast and represent an over-the-top version of his archetype, having shit-tons of armor and being able to eat through most fireballs like nobody's business XD

Considering Brian ended up losing to the 8th and 13th ranked online players, who both ended up in top 4 of this tourney, that was a pretty solid run. Bracket seeding was clearly a bit wonky. (Which is understandable, since the game has only been out for a week or so, and who the heck knows who's good or not.)
Oh we know for a fact that Swift Master is busted!
I think the seeding is at a proper state right now where there’s is huge opportunity to grow, wether from experiencing pro gameplay or just finding a sparring partner. People can might see it a different way but playing top seed can give you the boost in gameplay, no matter what character is being used.
1:01 the backdash-roll is such a simple interaction but it looks and feels sooooo good
Grappler is like putting a street fighter character in guilty gear. Give him a hadoken at least.

agree. even with his big damage output, he simply just cant keep up with the rest of the cast bullshit lol
Nah, he's fine. Universal dodge roll and half screen specials that lead to 40-80% on hit, including a single button AA with a bigger hitbox than Heavenly Potemkin Buster. As far as grapplers go, he's eating well.
He needs a better awakening.
Reduced chip dmg is a garbage awakening passive.
I think all his moves should come out at max charge during awakening
So you can get the non charged speed but the max charge damage and properties
And maybe ontop of it a few extra armor frames during awakening.
That way he becomes scary in awakening by tanking through all ur shit and beating u up.
But still keeps his weakness that he has against zoners.
Playing grappler in DnF looks masochistic in a game where other character normal button 3/4 area of the screen. Also grappler when inside, 1:23 80% hp gone under 10 sec.
Also grappler combos are link city, and basically all his buttons have normal and charged variants. So not only do you have less range than most but execution is higher to do combos.
nah the character is solid, the game just came out so easier characters like swift master, hitman and crusader feel stronger, but mark my words give the game 6 months and you'll see a lot of grapplers, berserkers and enchantresses place well in tournaments
@@bobrianfo104 I don't think this is saying he's bad at all, it's just you have to work a little bit more for him, both in terms of getting in and being consistent with your combos. But when you do achieve that he does crazy damage.
I think hitmans awakened dp might be one of the most revoltingly moves I've seen in a fighting game. This game is full of stupid moves but that one is particularly insane
I'm learning hit man because I here he is easy to Learn I like learning the easiest characters but doing insane combos 😁
Don’t add the suffix “-ly” to revolting in that’s scenario. The suffix turns adjectives into adverbs. An adverb was correct in that scenario because it was talking about a thing/concept (moves/dp) and not an action.

There's a gap in it where you can dp yourself but Brian doesn't know that
"How do I move!?" As a Grappler main who just got to diamond I feel that in my soul. Basically every match-up seems to be me getting beaten on/juked for 30+ seconds hoping for a lucky whiff to punish. Or I play against Swift Master and Striker and just die in the corner.
I feel like hitman is one of those characters that you can't allow to get into awakening at all because it's so busted
I think the player base will evolve to have combos that kill around just before awakening for certain characters. Sort of how in Nether Realm games they evolved combos to avoid breakers and the wage thingy.
Nah hitman awaken can easily be parried
Hitman has weakpoints throughout his strings and his down special is easy to counter, awakening is all he has but even that is predictable.
I love Grappler, and has so far been my clear favorite since the beta... Plus I think his design and moves are easily one of the coolest and most interesting in the game..... But unfortunately for this game, and the majority of the characters, are designed to just make a "Grappler's" life a living Hell... Honestly it just seems like it always a uphill battle with him against anyone... However with that said, I do enjoy the challenge, and it is extremely satisfying smashing someone into the ground for victory against an abusive player.
I hear Brian talking about how unfair it is to play against 8th in world but imagine how people felt in pools back in sf4 against him
I struggle with Kunoichi as well. I'm loving this game so far it and KOF are my favorite FGs released in awhile 🙏🏿🔥

Not sure if you actually watched the tourney but every person that grappler faced was super medicore,dropped combos and failed pressure. That tourney was literally filled with noobs..considering it was only a day or two after release

You gotta appreciate the tourney organizers' faith that Brian is this unbeatable god who should have mopped the floor with a world top-10 player in round one of the bracket, lol.
I think they were just banking on the fact that him having lots of professional experience in another game would make him instantly godlike lol. He did mention the other player was unseeded so maybe that person hadn't registered for a tournament in DNF before.
@@butnuster354 well normally one would think being the upper seed would be good since the lower seeded player should theoretically be worse... He just got unlucky that the guy was unseeded so the tournament probably didnt know where to put him.

Hope you're enjoying "my gameplan is negated by reactive DPs" the character as much as I am. Best I've got is placing 3rd in both SaltyEU tournaments so far.

Brian, does Grappler being the most normal-looking-ass dude in a roster full of crazy, off-the-wall characters with wild powers (including ninjutsu, ghost powers, gunkata, a pocket full of heavy artillery, etc.) have anything to do with why you picked him?

Usually grappling characters have big punches because they have big strong arms for grappling, like zangeif or Potemkin. But this character has a more kick focused move set. I just think it’s interesting. Also go fuck yourself.

tbh, I don't think Grappler is a tournament viable character in this game, he just has too many horrible matchups, especially against the top tiers. Also that gap is likely to widen as more tech is found for other characters, whereas Grappler seems to be a pretty simple character without much room to grow

Anyone with fast attacks like swift master you can't do shit dude it sucks. Fought a swift master man was doing combos without touching me but he so fast he can confirm off of it round start I just got to sit there or roll into a full screen heavy

Grappler feels so out of place in this game.
That a character gets his super every round seems like a pretty bad decision. Even in mk11 if you win a round with super you dont get acess to it anymore.
yeh once both characters are down to 30% it's just whoever lands a hit next wins, and since the combos are easy it's pretty dull
Mk11's supers are way worse, since they have invincibility on startup (or armor, I can't remember) AND THEY COME BACK 10 SECONDS LATER IF YOU MISS. In Dnf, your super doesn't come back that same round if you miss, and it ends your awakening state (the unique power up each character gets at 30% hp), plus, they are NOT invincible in dnf.
@@HeirofDacia yeh but they don't have to be invincible or multiple use, they just extend pretty much any combo someone does from 30% health
@@gameclips5734 I was explaining the fact that most supers have 0 utility besides extending combo dmg. Mk11's supers are way stronger in this regard.
