I read Dr. Barnards book the Program for Reversing Diabetes 5 years ago after being diagnosed with type 2 and other chronic conditions probably from exposure to agent orange in Vietnam. I went Whole Food Plant Based and now have an a1c of 5.5 from 9 and lost 72 pounds and reversed high blood pressure. Very grateful for this program.

Now it’s down to 6.3 but I’ve caved in and started the junk food a bit and then it was more than a bit and today again I had trouble seeing all day long! I feel encouraged. I am listening and it is like she is telling my story about my eyes. I do have macular degeneration and my eye doc sent me to a specialist and they suggested I join a trial for macular degeneration. For the trial they need to set a base line for your health so they took blood, urine ran a bunch of tests along with the regular eye tests. Was not able to do the trial and they recommended I see my regular doc because of the test results. More tests and doc told me I have diabetes. After loosing weight and being on medication my eye sight improved. You are inspiring to listen to. So glad to hear your story.

I am reading the pleasure trap and I know my emotional eating is not rational. Right now I have Japanese yams and lots of delicious components of the 50/50 plan available to me and I enjoy that way of eating. I do go through an intense mental struggle to stop myself from ignoring my healthy food and get in the car to go grab something crappy with lots of cheese. At least I guess educating myself is helping me to observe and recognize my behavior but it's definitely a process for me. Thanks for all the tips!💕

I am a Vegan now 10 years. But I was definitely a food addict and getting over it has not been always easy. But my salvation in regards to stopping the damage I was doing to myself with my food addiction I did not know what to do about was to get information which would turn my ideas of what is right and wrong physiologically so I could understand what food was meant to do and how to kill my food additions.
I was in a wheelchair and my hands were nearly useless in the pain of arthritis. I remembered I had had a lot of bad reactions to milk, but it did no make my hands, back, knees and ankles hurt as a child. But decided to do an elimination diet and would start with all diary products - I just gave it all up, went to the store with my husband, rode in a ride on cart at Walmart and got my first carton of Soy Milk. Bought one of the vanilla and one plain.
Inside of 3 weeks, my handwriting looked normal and I could lift a big frying pan and I was out of that wheelchair. So I looked to what others had to say about dairy causing arthritis and found Whole Food Plant-Based diets.
My son had wanted me to try KETO before this, which I did and I became so horribly constipated that no laxative worked and had to use an enema which was excruciating. So I knew KETO was not for me at all.
So I kept learning more and more and the weight began to come down. I had gotten up to 200 lbs. Shortly after giving up all dairy, I had to have an emergency Gallbladder surgery, of which I could have died from, it was at the point of rupture and badly infected. So got passed that and took my iPad to bed and watched one video after another on how to do plant-based eating.
The weight began to come off. I never was hungry and my weight came down 55 libs. I began walking and I fell and broke my ankle and ten pounds crept back on. I had to find out how to heal my ankle and discovered the importance of kale and all vegetables. The ankle healed. All the calcium tablets the doctors told me to take did nothing as I was in menopause and my low estrogen, just could not absorb calcium this way.
But plants worked. My leaky gut healed and so did my ankle and my weight is going down again.
I had an abusive childhood so my self-image has not been great nor my confidence that I could make good decisions, but I have had a great mental turn around, and actually the first time in my life, feel happy and confident.
My father had died of Alzheimer’s and before transitioning off of the Standard American Diet, I knew that my intellect was not where is used to be and was diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment. My thoughts are clear now, the diet is powerful over many conditions.
All of my life I had been plagued with hyperhidrosis which is sweating like one is in shock out of nearly every pour, and cold and clammy nearly all the time. That I was able to find a husband and have three kids is like one of God’s miracles for me but this was all before my diet change. I exercised like crazy back then and was thin but my dad before he went in a nursing home for AD, but that put me in a wheelchair for a long time as he fell on top of me and crushed a vertebrae. But before menopause I healed that but could not lift much after that.
Plant-based allows things to heal no matter how long ago the injury as it helps to clear out calcium deposits which having loads of dairy in my life had done. Though occasionally I can become stiff, it only lasts a day, sometimes only hours. And I can function.
Along with getting over being obese and the arthritis, Plant-Based helped me to resolve my food addiction instead of a means of self-abuse and being out of control, to menu planning with an eye to how the foods I am eating can heal me. I have recently caught a virus, not Covid, which attacked my lungs, ran a fever of 104 degrees and I brought that down but so much coughing, went to the doctor and I am normally never on medication as my A1C is 5.1 and my cholesterol though it could be lower is not putting me at risk.
So I went to making fresh salsa and got a fresh pineapple and have been finding ways to heal my breathing with what I can eat and drink, like herbal teas.
The diet is powerful but also empowering because it get you to think that the answer really is out there and with God’s help, I can find the next step I need to accomplish to keep myself well.
Both my mother and sister died of breast cancer and as I’ve also followed “The China Study” and Dr. McDougall’s work with reversing breast cancer for Ruth Heidrich, that I know that eating this way is also life saving. I do not have any cancers at all.
Because of what I’ve told some of my friends, there are also several people who are giving Plant-Based eating a chance and I always point them to this channel for inspirational videos.
We all owe you all a great debt for having the courage to tell a truth so many of us mocked until it healed us.

A truly inspiring lady. She proves that no matter how bad things get, a truly healthy diet can make a vast difference in the quality of life - and can hit you with some surprises. And Chuck is one of the best interviewers I have ever come across, in any field. PRCM are lucky to have him.
I've been doing vegan for a couple of months now. I tried it many years ago and gave up because I often felt hungry and tired, and one day I spat the dummy and gave it up. This time it's different - because I'm eating mostly whole foods instead of processed and refined foods. I was previously a junk food vegan, and didn't even know it then.
My unexpected surprise this year was that I don't feel hungry on a whole foods diet - because instead of eating nutritionally depleted convenience foods, I'm getting more nutrients than ever from whole or minimally processed foods. So it takes less calories to satisfy my needs, and the excess weight is just dropping off without having to struggle with constant hunger. A whole foods plant based diet is the way to go.

What a fantastic turn around. It goes to show what a vegan whole plant foods based diet can achieve. I didn't have any health issues before adapting this diet ( even though I am vegan for the animals and avoid other products/services that exploit animals as long as it's practical/ and possible) but that doesn't mean I wouldn't have health issues as I get older if I didn't change.

2 months into eating this way. I broke my leg and was diagnosed in the ER with diabetes. A1C 11. In 2 months, I dropped 30 lbs without really trying. I sent the doc my sugar numbers and she called and told me to stop taking the insulin immediately. Loved that moment. Now I just have to keep it up and trust that things will be going the right direction even while eating way more carbs than the doc suggested. Blood work coming up soon.
I can relate to Marys story because it was kind of a surprise and I did just make up my mind that something had to change permanently.

I also had an A-1C over 12 before my diabetes was diagnosed as type II. But that was 16 years ago. Since then, I have been on a very low carb diet (plant-based, salt-free, low protein). My last A-1C was 5.9 and has consistently been under 6.5 for years. I keep my weight low at about 140 lbs and I walk about 2 miles a day. But despite the very tight control of my blood sugar, my diabetes has continued to progress. I'm virtually blind in my left eye and my right eye is deteriorating, too. It's a terrible, irreversible disease (at least it's irreversible for me).

I couldn’t understand why plant based(vegan?) did not affect her diabetes when all those food digest they turn to glucose and would affect her insulin. I tried to be vegan but the more i would feel cold and get candida/yeast, i hope they can explain more. I would not still suggest vegan, i used to not to eat meat especiAlly meat and mostly clean eating but the more i ran to the toilet peeing and got blood test ans my a1C was close to pre diabetic,

Starchy carbs turn into glucose(high glycemic foods) If you read about types of glucose and absorption you’ll see that most vegetables and some fruits digest sugar/starch at a slower rate which is safe for diabetes. Those are low glycemic foods. High glycemic foods are not good for diabetics. Hope this helps.

Also if your getting candida you may need to see a doctor but taking digestive enzymes and probiotics to help your body transition into digesting new foods will help.

@@erinbeltran1820 starchy foods are actually classed as polysaccharide complex carbs that take longer to digest the information is hard to understand as GI and GL are two different things but after lots of studying i get conflicting information from Harvard and other reputable website's I think the big problem supposedly is fructose, which gets stored in the liver as glucose is the fuel that the body uses first most carbs contain both, it falls down to the fibre content of cellulose in carbs whether they are soluble or insoluble etc one won't digest and will help pass movements in your bowel and soluble fibre will breakdown with water in the gut to create a gel like substance to slow digestion and spike glucose at a slower rate. Usually fibre contains both types in different ratios.

Also yeast is dysbiosis of the gut, bad bacteria you need to regain homeostasis.

I'M TYPING IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE I'M GUESSING YOU HAVE VISION PROBLEMS.
GENERALLY, FROM WHAT IVE SEEN, THEY SUGGEST BASING EACH OF YOUR MEALS AROUND BEANS, GREENS AND WHOLE GRAINS, WITH FRUIT. ADD ANY ADDITIONAL YUMMY VEGETABLES AND ITS A VERY BALANCED DIET. IF YOU DO EAT PROCESSED FOOD THEN THERES A FEW GUIDELINES IVE SEEN. ONE IS TO HAVE LESS GRAMS OF SODIUM PER SERVING THAN CALORIES PER SERVING.

@@shutthegate8232 Unfortunately the keto diet will leave you with high cholesterol, heart problems, and gut problems… works nicely for a while when you get rid of the sugar and processed crap… but after a year or two you are bashing your circulatory system and organs. Your diabetes will actually get worse after a while as the organs deteriorate and then you will have hassles with your feet and eye sight again again. Let alone the continuous hassles of clogged up guts leading to various gut cancers.

I hate to tell everybody in the comments this but the lady said one thing that discredited everything in the whole video she never lets herself get hungry that's her biggest mistake that's not normal in real life you just can't open the refrigerator and start eating. intermittent fasting is the key to health and low carbohydrates and eat some real fat
