Consider installing Barn Owl nest boxes. Barn Owls enjoy having Meadow Voles and Rabbits for Supper. For that much land you may need a Score of Barn Owl nest boxes. Install them about three meters high, with the entrance facing away from the prevailing winds. There are blue prints online. Don't make the entrance too large, it invites unwelcome visitors. The young Owls also enjoy an outdoor patio to perch. Put up twenty and in three years they will all be used and your Rabbit concerns will be a memory.

Very important work. Have you seen what they're doing in NZ to create pest-free zones?

Ongoing re-invasion/introductions are one of the major issues. Fence failure, natural pest dispersal & human sabotage/ignorance are factors that will be relevant to Australia too.

      No, what are they doing?

@@DiHandleyI think for them it's just for rats, but similar to what you're doing just down the road from me with exclusion zones, but in addition they are using traps with a bait that lures in the rodents. When the rodents take a nibble the trap knocks them on the head for an instant death

How high does a fence have to be to exclude rabbits? What aperture size?

Hi, the height we aim for is 100cm, but as long as it's at least 90cm high with the overhang it should be okay. And diameter of wire 40mm (4cm). Hole size can not be any greater as baby bunnies can fit through 50+mm size mesh. Gauge doesn't matter. The thicker the gauge the longer it lasts, but also the more expensive it is buy. I hope that helps, thank you!

why not just use pindone baits???

Hi, we don't use these due to the risk of secondary poisoning, which is a risk with Quolls especially, as well as the high population of raptors and owls.
