Acknowledging that we live in a (largely) evil world has had an oddly calming effect on me. Once you realise that most people throughout history have either been murdered or exploited, that you get to lead a relatively comfortable live - I am after all typing on a smartphone, sat on a couch - starts to seem almost miraculous. I think part of the issue though is that because we live in such a bubble in the West, it’s easy to mistake the bubble for the world as such. This means people not only can’t see the world for what it is, but can’t see how lucky they are to be largely insulated from it - like a weird double effect where you can’t see how bad it is and how good you have it at the same time.

I agree, if one is to face the facts, as you're doing, it shifts your focus. To be happy, one requires a life philosophy that is adequate to the challenge and points towards what might be possible in terms of redemption. Buddhism, just one possibility, famously holds that life is suffering, but until you study it, you might not hear that there are three forms of that -- the gross, subtle, and very subtle. Everyone knows the gross form, that getting hit in the face hurts, but not everyone knows the subtle truth, that eating ice cream also turns into suffering, that, in a sense, suffering is bottomless, good turns to bad and then again to worse. And then there's very subtle suffering as well. :) And yet -- according to the Buddha, freedom is possible, which is pretty stunning.

Yes!!
I am born with generational wealth and I can tell you life is still absolutely miserable
People have to high expectations. If your primary needs are taken care of, you are winning.
As I get older, I realize that life is not meant to be easy. Some people still fail to realize that unfortunately. Great Video!

@@TopmobileDeals I do not have a definitive perspective on this. It is conceivable that your consciousness could integrate with another complex system composed of smaller, independent systems, serving your existence elsewhere.
And yet -- according to the Buddha, freedom is possible, which is pretty stunning.
Life is a cold hard game... however, we love in a connected world, and when people work together, new and better roads are discovered. Try it.

Human beings are created with a higher nature and a lower one. The higher one is the spiritual level of our minds, and the lower one is the natural one. Neglect your spiritual life and you'll feel like you're at the mercy of the cruel world, as per this video.
C.S. Lewis said “The Christian way is different: harder and easier. Christ says, “Give me all. I don’t want so much of your time and so much of your money and so much of your work: I want you. I don’t want to drill the tooth, or crown it, or stop it, but to have it out. Hand over the whole natural self, all the desires which you think innocent as well as the ones you think wicked-the whole outfit. I will give you a new self instead. In fact, I will give you Myself: my own will shall become yours.”

If there's a God who created this world, but knowingly allowed evil and suffering to be the default and does nothing when you beg for help, then that God cannot possibly be good. If only God had someone to answer to, like karma.
Man made god, not that other way around, give up your childish notions of a big juju father figure in the sky and your life will instantly become better!

That's why I moved on from Schopenhauer.
@@fritzdeuces the Adam and eve story..had its origins in the sophoanic error wisdom from the gnostics..pagens as described later..
