Kinda. I think it's more like "Pokemon, I'll get you!". It's confusing because Japanese doesn't grammatically distinguish between singular and plural nor the present and future tense, for some reason the lyrics say " *_is_* a get [capture]" rather than " *_do_* a get [capture]", and because my Japanese sucks...
GET is a noun in Japanese. Proof to this is the "da ze" that's added afterwords -- it's a conjugation of desu which should only follow nouns/pronouns. Also, sentences in Japanese should end with a verb -- more reason why GET is not the same as the verb "to get" in English. So a GET in Japanese is the *act* of earning, or literally getting, something. The closer translation for the song lyrics would be "It's a Pokemon catch!" Pretty far meaning from "Gotta Catch 'em All."
Mask Gamer you mean pervert....there is no ed at the end. It would only make since only if you said "Yep Pikachu is perverted" bit in the sentience you used the correct spelling would be pervert not perverted.
@Obsidian Abraxas Blade you mean sentence...there is no "i".Also you mean sense not since you used the incorrect spelling in a try to correct someone's spelling.
Fun fact: The girl is actually a LASS (trainer class), which is calles "Miniskirt" in the japanese version. The youngster class is called "Shorts", so both the boys and girls are named for their iconic clothing. Oh, and the japanese use "GET" as a verb, ie. Pikachu GET means "(I) got a Pikachu". Its the same with Super Mario Sunshine, where it says SHINE GET in the japanese version.
Erm... 'Get' is also a verb in English... The issue is that the Japanese don't conjugate it in the English way (get, got, etc), not that they use it as a verb.
Hey guys, I originally started this as being only about the girl in a skirt but then thought maybe I should look into the whole intro. Hopefully the first half doesn't seem a bit forced or anything! Oh and, as always, thanks for watching :P
Smash 456 You're right about the Pokemon screen part. They changed it because of the Pokemon's names flashing very fast due to the Porygon episode incident. They also went back to some older episodes and toned down the flashing effects, noticeably in the episode with Lt. Surge.
I miss the days when the Pokemon intro's weren't 30 second clip shows but things that the dubbing companies actually cared about. Nowadays if the intro becomes outdated TPCi doesn't give a damn.
[In school] "The girls dresscode says that you may only wear skirts or shorts that are at maximum a dollar bill [laid horizontally] above the knee" [Japan] "Minimum requirement is one foot from the knee"
Anime is not real life bro. In reality, the classic sailor suit that you see everywhere in anime has been waning in popularity in the last 15 or so years. These days, a one piece dress that ends below the knee is more common.
To be honest I personally love the 4kids intro but when I watch the japanese intro it feels more kid friendly and takes me back to the days of pokemon tcg on the gameboy. Surprisingly I never saw the japanese intro as a kid so to have nostalgia with that too must show its a very well made intro.
maybe you played the pinbal game? but yeah, the original song is that good =P "the japanese intro it feels more kid friendly" " under the girls skirt" super kids friendly xD
Idk why but when I hear the Japanese version of the intro song I am suddenly hit with so much nostalgia, even though I am not Japanese, I don't know Japanese and I always watched the translated version.
So in Japan when caught peeping under a girl's skirt as long as the perp says _"I was just trying to find some Pokemon"_ all will be forgiven and a 80s freeze frame will happen as everyone laughs? Because thats what I believe now.
I've watched the Japanese version of Pokemon for so long at this point that both the English and Japanese openings are equally nostalgic for me! Sun & Moon even brought the original Japanese opening back for the anniversary~ Edit: Aha~ Should have watched the whole video before commenting!
so fun fact: the reason you hear english in Japanese songs is because(at least according to native Japanese people here on youtube) they like how it sounds.
You don't have to go so far away to see that kind of stuff. Here in Mexico you can see plenty of people wearing shirts that say things like "Go Fuck Yourself". People love that shit, even if they claim to hate the US and everything else related to the English language.
Hmm I've always thought the girl in the miniskirt is Giselle who appeared as a one-time character in an early episode, a random trainer from the Lass class or a girl representing "purity" because in the English opening, when she showed up, the lyrics says "a heart so true". I've watched and heard the Japanese opening before but since I don't understand a thing, I thought the scream thing just meant the girls are going crazy for Pokémon since it was so big at the time.
...I never realized the pinball 8 bit tune was a reference to the Japanese opening. I loved that 8 bit tune and never put 2 and 2 together. Thank you Censored Gaming man~
I remember hearing the japanese theme way back when the series first aired. However, I can't pinpoint as to where--the show itself (which is the 4kids dub), the Entei movie, the first movie, or the first movie's OST (which I happened to borrow a CASETTE TAPE of back in the day). The first line "POKEMON, GETTO DAZE!" stuck with me all these years, and the melody itself is in my opinion catchier and better sounding than the one they used in the western release.
4kids may have destroyed itself with idiotic censorship, and it made alot of dishonest business deals. But hot damn, everyone has to admit they made(or atleast hired people for) some of the most original and iconic intro themes ever.
Good old japanese intro, I got the song in a cassette waaaaay back when Pokemon was starting to broadcast in TV and I got to love that one better than the 4kids version. Both are good and iconic, but the Japanese one has my heart :)
As much i despite the changed from 4Kids, i despite TPCi even more of how they shorted the intro to a mere 30 secs, also the some of ost are replaced by they own.
wow! my mind is blown! Ive watched a bass cover of the Japanese version of this song and had it in my favs for a while, the title was in Japanese so I had no idea what it said and I simply looked for the thumbnail when I wanted to hear it. this whole time it was the freakin pokemon intro.... crazy
As Japan had closed its borders for other countries for a long time, when they incorporated western technology and clothing, they lacked the words to describe them. "It goes by the name Pocket Monsters instead" Pokémon means Pocket Monsters. And they said "under a girl's skirt" not "in her underwear" or "her shirt". Plus I only see real children wearing tights under their skirts in real life anymore. You can't see anything; and it's not like the Pokémon themselves are viewing human children in a way where they want to produce their offspring with them.
It always weirded me out why Moltress doesn't appear, guess their thought process for censoring it is that they didn't want kids to light birds on fire or something? Does anybody have any insight on this?
+Censored Gaming I wouldn't be surprised if you said they did do it for that reason. +Lady Potatas They just had to do that with the legendary trio. Triggers my OCD.
I'll always prefer the Japanese Pokemon intros and anime, even tho I grew up watching Pokemon in Croatian and English, the translators change too much and it bothers me, especially the changes in some battle music and such.

They shorten the openings to show more ads.
8BitGamer4life That's only useful in the US where they show ads between the show. In other countries it's just annoying.
MarioaddictC I doubt 4Kids could've done much about that.
I loved quite a few of the tpci intros. The galactic battles English intro is my favorite intro in the entire anime. Easily.
I kinda like the Japanese one and how they reuse it because it would be so nostalgic and would really hype you up, also the rhythm is really good.
