I live on a Ranch in Missouri with a couple hundred head of cattle,(we run a cow-calf operation) and I am glad to see someone who actually knows how to load cattle
wow. Good that the cow kick missed connecting full on with you! People dont understand that even the most loving cow can kill you in a heartbeat with just a freak accident. Good you got some sold and hope that calving season runs smoothly for you. Our fist calf hit the ground yesterday at 8 degrees and a ground blizzard. Yup. Thats Northern tier ranching at its best. Stay safe friend
Boy, do I ever like that hoodie vest. I never saw one anywhere but here on you. The pigs are sounding fine. I think you did ok on the cattle. Good video. Pax.
I learn a lot about the cattle market watching your channel. Looks to me like a person wanting high dollar grass fed beef should be at the auction picking up one of those fat cull cows to have custom processed and go into their personal freezer.
Look forward to your videos. Just so you are aware the first part of your video had sound that was impossible to hear. What I have seen other RUclipsrs do is subtitle the video in any sections where the audio is not clear. Look forward to calving!
For our farm, we are trying to increase fertility and stayability. So we cull hard for any cow that doesn’t wean off a calf on time. So if they don’t get bred on time, abort, or raise a sick calf that dies early, we take those cows to the sale barn. We keep back our own heifers out of the herd so we only want to keep back heifers from the best and most fertile cows. The ones that don’t breed or raise a calf don’t make you any money.
I sold some heifers and a steer last August I got 1.15 for the steer and 1.05 for one heifer and the other heifer 1.23 and I thought I got robbed but turns out I got lucky compared to other people this past few months
The calf market has been up i took 3 beef dairy crosses and they graded I got 1.50 a pound. Also for 700 pound hoilstiens I got 90 cents a pound that was two weeks in a row I got good money both times.
Hey Isaac can you help me out pls… iv been watching from the start and it’s always been great and I look forward to seeing your videos but lately I’m left wondering where this is going and what the long term goals of this channel/your life are. Could you please give some sort of plan to what we should expect in the next year or so
in over 30 years doing pig breading and cow calf i have never sold to a sales barn, it very poor money. i raise everything to market weight and take them to be butchered, i use to sell to the local public by the side as well by the cut,, but in these times it been far more profit selling only by cut or by a meat pack box, old cows i send out to be ground into buger and sausage as i do with my older 3 year old sows, the closest sales barn to me is 8 hours away and the price even on calves is not worth it,, many with in 1200 miles of me have all changed over to the same, as local meat is huge market.. you get far better price per pond then the markets charge. people today want to know were there meat comes from ,, not from some kee high crap feed lot,, that each one has a hormone cap put in the back of there neck as they come off the truck..
Yeah..have to be careful during feeding time ...they can get spirited and frisky....my bull scares me when he starts jumping around...2,200. lbs....he's too big to play with....1,000.lb cows don't scare me much....they move with a slight touch anywhere to their body...Mr. Bull does not move.
Most of the old cows will go into low grade ground beef at the store or fast food joints. Some fast food joints even get cheaper meat by using cancer cows or crippled/sick ones.
The packers are the ones making the most. Since there are only about 4 packers processing all the beef in the US they can pretty much charge what they want. No other small companies can compete with the volume of the big guys. The packers control the price of the finished animals and they control how much they sell it for. It’s not technically a monopoly but it’s having the same effect. The price of beef at the store has increased drastically and the price the farmers receive has actually gone down slightly.

Isaac, glad you didn't get that kick in the chest. Always good seeing videos from you.

It’s actually just a cheap wrangler vest. Can’t remember where I bought it.

Glad you did well at the sale. The pigs sure go at the food when you put it down. Enjoyed this video and look forward to the next one. Thanks.
You were down in my neck of the woods. Better result than I expected from where you sold them.
Another great day at the sale barn, wishing you well on the next bunch. Love those little pigs. Take care love you .hugs till the next time .

Someone knew what they were doing, when they laid out that set of pens.
My dads got an eye for it!
Sure glad u did not get injured. Have to be extra careful when u are alone
I have a question why can’t you send them to feedlot they can get fat on grain diet.
Look forward to your videos. Just so you are aware the first part of your video had sound that was impossible to hear. What I have seen other RUclipsrs do is subtitle the video in any sections where the audio is not clear. Look forward to calving!
I’ll see what I can do. My new microphone is not doing the best job and I can’t seem to get it fixed in post.
@@FarmandHammer Thanks, I understand.
so always really beautiful video Isaac friend i love it
Did you go to Joplin for the sale barn
You have no brake lights on your trailer.
You said something about your field rep at your sale barn. What exactly do they do
What 'qualifies' cattle for freezer beef on the farm?

We’re they butcher weight? Or feeder size?
How about filming at one of the livestock sales?

Sounds like it! How big were your dairy crosses?
695 to 750
Born at the end if may

Yeah I’m trying some direct marketing this year with the pigs and if all goes well I’ll try to finish some beef as well.
@@FarmandHammer good for you
Did these heifers go to slaughter I take it?
I sold 500 old breed cows I did pretty good at the sale barn
Yeah bred cows by me are still doing well at the barns.
What barn was that? Are you talking about Joplin when you said one of the biggest in the nation?
Looks like Joplin.
Yes
So many cows being sold out west. No forage because of drought.
I didn't know cows lived that long. no wonder beef in the stores is average at best.
Most of the old cows will go into low grade ground beef at the store or fast food joints. Some fast food joints even get cheaper meat by using cancer cows or crippled/sick ones.
Why are meat prices soo high but ranchers are still broke

And the big 4 packers are foreign owned
Your packers are foreign owned??? THAT'S pretty scary somehow......... 🤔🇨🇦
