    Loved this video through and through man. That's one hell of a build and I still can't get over the fact you guys are in the same building!

    That's impressive large and impressively mundane. It is surprising to see so much effort going in to make a very ordinary mile of railway. A very cool bit of miniature history, and looks chilly as fork.

    • @2H80vids
      @2H80vids 4 года назад +5

      Yep, it looks so much better because of that. So many people make the mistake of either, cramming track into every available piece of ground, or stuffing "features" along the trackside, so you can hardly see the railway.
      A huge proportion of the real railway is actually quite boring, with straight(ish) track passing through mile after mile of bland, featureless terrain.
      From the brief look we got, I would say that this model, quite simply, looks REAL.
      Admittedly though, the sheer SIZE does help.👍👌😁

    I do American N scale, in a garden shed. To see this, is amazing. I love long straights and that is brilliant. You have to open this up to other modellers - and modellers only, just for inspiration, to talk and swap ideas. I would pay to see that and have a chat, even although it's 'O' gauge. Brilliant job guys. Let us know if you will open up. Good luck with the rest, and we want to see that too!!!

  • @Meddled

    I love the fact that this huge layout is of a fairly nondescript stretch of track set in the BR Blue era. Very personal to the builder, which makes it really special. It would be too easy to go for the chocolate box toy trains look with quaint little houses and Gresley Pacifics thrashing around.

    • @torstenscholz6243
      @torstenscholz6243 4 года назад +6

      Yeah, that's what I like about it, too. Tiny toy layouts with tight loops and dollhouses is what I've seen a million times already, I like it when model railroads go straight for realism and just show massive landscapes and long tracks with long, realistic trains.

    • @andysmith1996
      @andysmith1996 4 года назад +5

      Add me to the list of fans of this type of layout. I love the long, straight stretches.

    • @andrewdock7288

      Would look good with the occasional LMS Garratts 2-6-0 + 0-6-2 or LNER U1 2-8-0 + 0-8-2 on a very long freight train; depending on the region whether midland or eastern.
      Could be 50s view with first generation modern traction from the early 50s like those 2 LMS prototype diesel or LNER equivalent passed into BR ownership.
      Great layout you are to be congratulated.

    • @soundseeker63
      @soundseeker63 4 года назад +1

      "Too easy'..lol WTF? Isn't it obvious that the vast majority of people don't have access to a space where they could build a 400ft long layout - or anything close? And do you want to even think about the costs involved in this...? Factoring in material costs, property and transport I'd say by the time the project is complete he will have spent at least £100k on his "hobby", and that's to say nothing of the 5+ years of full-time work he's put into it. Is that a realistic prospect for most people...? No.
      You are right, it is an impressive and unique layout, but what you are looking at is someone with a HUGE amount of money with which to self indulge. Why disparage other modellers as taking the "too easy" route just because they can't make something as grandiose and incredibly expensive and impractical as this. If we were all millionaires then we most likely would! haha

    • @Meddled
      @Meddled 4 года назад

      @@soundseeker63 you've missed the point I was making. If I had endless space and finances to build an O-gauge layout would I go for recreating a bit of nondescript industrial wasteland during the BR Blue era? The temptation would be to build some rosy nostalgia '50s era country halt with milk churns and duck ponds and Mallard battering one way and Flying Scotsman the other. To build a layout this scale with this much detail is impressive. To then make the choice to model something so niche is more impressive in my view as the temptation would be to play it safe.

    This was genuinely fascinating to watch, the slow dry resin pour on this kind of scale is the sort of thing you don't get to see very often, and if you ever were going to do yourself - is hard to test on that scale!
    Very enjoyable to watch, and very useful too. interesting tips on crush leaves and dolls hair. looks like a good alternative to rubberised horsehair, I know you (rightfully) hate that stuff :D

    I love the fact that although too often we get mired in the amount of curved tracks and switches involved in a layout, but I love the "LENGTH OF STRAIGHT TRACK" so you can see and admire, without pause, in a distance, the train rumbling towards you as in real life.
    Awesome concept and display.
