      So how's it holding up one year later

    When removing the axle shaft from the hub & bearing assembly NEVER hammer on the end of the axle shaft like they did in the video. Either leave the axle nut on the end of the shaft & hammer on that, or use a block of wood to hammer on so you do not damage the end of the axle shaft.

    • @huffingfarts
      @huffingfarts 5 лет назад +1

      Be careful leaving the nut on there when hammering, you can deform it quite easily. 2 whacks and it had nicks in it.
      Use a block of wood to whack it loose or you might end up searching for a new cv axle and nut.

    • @weldingjunkie
      @weldingjunkie 5 лет назад

      Yup leave but nut on a few threads and hit That. Not smart hitting axle bare

    • @bilgeratjim
      @bilgeratjim 5 лет назад +8

      These axles have a non-threaded section at the end- made for tapping with a hammer.

    My hub assembly does not have wire harness for abs sensor. The new assembly has the wire harness. Can I use it anyway?

  • @bilgeratjim

    Good video- just a suggestion: once you have the caliper and rotor off, remove the backer plate. It's only 3 machine screws, and makes accessing the hub assembly bolts easier.

      I did the same. It welded itself so perfectly it took me a day and a half of slamming back and forth getting an pry bar in between and working it. Somehow the one I got done at the shop needs done again. I can’t go over 65 without it becoming sketchy loud. Wish me luck

    I have a 2003 ranger xlt 4x4 and can’t find the hub bolts. The new hub did come with them. The ford dealership and local auto parts stores don’t have any and said they can’t get them. After 18 winters the bolts rusted so bad it’s li,e they are welded in. The bolt head brakes off and bolt doesn’t move. Anyone know were to buy the hub bolts?

    Did they change the size of the spindle nut for the 2005 Ranger? I have a 32mm socket but it seems too big for the nut.

    • @spiritwalker6153
      @spiritwalker6153 6 лет назад

      The problem, I found out, was that the nut takes a six point socket and a twelve point socket will not work. This needs to be specified.

      If you get yourself an 18" long/1.5' torque/breaker bar, that will multiply your 130 lbs x 1.5 ==> 195 lbs. You can get it. Lever length is your friend.

      It was the wheel bearing. Confirmed once i jacked it up.
      Had about an inch of slop when manipulating the the wheel and tire by hand.
      Fun stuff, just wish they used antiseize from the factory. My bearing/hub assembly had to be beaten with a small sledge to break loose.
      Thanks again for the excellent videos and quick responses.
