It was Halloween night and Parliament Funkadelic was about to tear the roof off the
Houston Summit, ready to bless the crowd with their cosmic brew of interplanetary
funk. George Clinton, Bernie Worrell, Bootsy Collins and the rest of the P-Funk
collective were riding the success of their first Top 5 R&B hit, "Give Up The Funk (Tear
The Roof Off The Sucker)," a track that had earned them the kind of radio play that
would bring the masses out to see them live in a stadium-sized arena. The group was
only five dates into the tour when they arrived in Houston, but they were definitely
ready to take it to the stage for an out-of-this-world show like no other.
Taped on October 31, 1976, these seldom-seen performances at the Houston Summit
represent Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic in their ʼ70s prime, in the era of their
Mothership Connection and The Clones Of Dr. Funkenstein LPs-a rare opportunity
for everyone to get their proper dose of The P-Funk.
I am in my seventies now and I will always be a Funkateer
😂me too! I’m 66! We had SUCH GREAT MUSIC!
@@cessaly100 its awesome to me being so much younger than you guys cuz its not just great music. i watched the one nation under funk documentary and i was MINDBLOWN. that era seemed like a lot of fun!!!!! everyone talks about "hippies" and their movement for some reason i heard about that more than i heard about the impact of funk. and man it just seemed like so much fun!!! i wish i could time machine back to some of those concerts!!! i bet they were amazing! much love
Don't underestimate the power of a fully functional Mothership!
Flashlight!!🛸 🔦
As a star wars fan I surely picked up in that quote.
The Mothership is now the ultimate power in the galaxy. I suggest we use it!
It is in the Smithsonian institute now.
Oh I'm afraid you'll find the Funk generator fully operational when your friends arrive....
That was real music. Shout out to the Gap Band, Ohio Players, Commodores, and especially Earth, Wind & Fire too. RIP Maurice White, we just lost a highly influential artist.
AYE YO!!! THATS MY GOAT LIST! 🎼🎤🎤🎤🎹🎺🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇😎
Don't forget about Cameo, Brick, Lakeside, Bar-Kays, Con Funk Shun, Mass Production, Rick James, Isley Brothers, Brothers Johnson, Brass Construction and a host of many others!!!
I remember first time I seen P-funk. Second mothership landing, I believe 82 or 83 at the capital centre in Md. Home of the Washington Bullets at the time. Been a funkater ever since. This might even be the show. It damn sure look like it. P-funk forever. ✌🏾
RIP Maurice - the music world got suffered when he passed and its been passing since - yikes! todays music is hog feces

Funk and groove overload
Can'z ya' ever have too much Funk??? I'll let ya' know in another 50 years.
Many groups have performed funk but Parliament IS funk.
...can you imagine Doobie in your funk?
James....the Godfather...don't forget that he got it started
The "P"
agree but can't 4get ConFunkShun 👀they put funk in their name too🤣💃
I haven't listened to this in so many years. I'm nearly 70 now but I got outta my chair and started dancing. How could you not?
Ain't nothing better than that Funk from P. F. Yeah!
❤️❤️❤️
I listen to this at my desk blasting on my headphones looking like a funk mentalist funking all over the place ha
Yup. I agree. I'll be 71 in a few months and I might not be dancing but I'm groovin and a movin to the beat. I used to do sound & lights for a live disco-band in the mid 1970s and it still has a place in my heart. xoxo
Yes yes! Tear it up, bro! We were JAMMIN’ back in the day!
E eu só tenho 60?!?
This sold over 1 million albums back when you had to get your ass in a car and go to a record store to buy it (or funking walk there) which hundreds of thousands did. Got to get funked up.
and if you wasnt walking funky on the way you was after listening time to get up off yah ass
It was a blast to spend an afternoon in a record store, reading liner notes, listening to the house selections. Often staff was highly knowledgeable and could make recommendations. Chicago had Rose Records downtown. Gigantic place. Bought a couple of albums just from the cover art. "Hot Dog" by Bob James, and "The Nightfly" by Donald Fagan. Still like them today.
oh yeah remember those times funk on
Perspective...!
samnyc2 rode my bike to tower records at least 4 days a week. After school or soccer practice 77-86. Flipping through vinyl.
I was 13. They didn't play this on the radio. I was funky but had no funk. Then one day in 1975, GC and Bootsy landed the mother ship in my yard, gave me a ride. They gave me funk and the in a way, saved my life!
If you don't understand, you don't belong here.
🎉Its soul freedom around and in. I had skated to it and it is life inside life!😊
That same year Earth Wind & Fire the Isley Brothers The Commodores Average White Band Ohio Players Brothers Johnson mandrill Chaka Khan and Rufus Kool & the Gang Bootsy Collins and those were the headliners not enough time to name opening acts who are now Legends. 1976 best year ever For concert Hot Fun in the Summertime.😎😎😎💜
I had the honor and the privilege to see Parliament perform many times in the 70s at NYC Madison Square Garden. I am glad to have grown up during that time, when soul music was music!
People knew how to play instruments.
Deborah G.M. and now people lead funkless lives...
I'm going to see them next month in a 2,000 seat venue with the seats pulled up and CAN'T WAIT
Deborah G.M. yea i no what you mean I'm 48 going on 49 lol but i was there to miss them days
yeah, I was @ The P_Funk Earth tour 1976 MSGarden - Clinton tripped on his way down from the mothership after it landed; George laughed and didn't lose a beat.
Why did Black American Popular Music stop sounding like this?
Good question that I’d like to know the answer to as well..
Because K C & The Sunshine Band came along and stole their show. Then without any instruments to play black Americans started beat boxing and rap was born. Then Eminem came along and stole the show so now black America has the Island Boys.
@@bebew.7659I know my answer is coming after two years. It sometimes takes a little longer with my dial up connection.
Who knows what happened but could actually understand what they say and they know how to play instruments compared to nowadays
$$$$$ crossover & elimination of band/music education in elementary thru high school🤷😶🌫️
Thumbs if you’re funking your way through this corona virus. Funk not only moves, it can re-move, dig?
👍😁
👍
👍👍👍👍👍

You damn right!!!!! Sunday July 19th!!!!
Being a teen in the 70's and a huge rocker, my friends would just stop and look at me when I would play Parliament or EWF albums.... Some great music...
By-tor Same, but my fellow white teens dug the funk. Maybe a Seattle thing. They did freak when I'd sneak on Bitches Brew, though.
I WAS THERE!!! I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A FUNK A TEER, THEY ASKED I REFUSED! MIGHT NOT HAVE MADE IT TO BE HERE TODAY... PRETTY WILD SCENE.. BUT I LOVED THOSE GUYS & GALS⚘ MUCH RESPECT💞
Hell ; my man said those were the days of really big parties.............?
@@sweetwildangel1 probably your biggest mistake in life... keep it jammin though!

A life without Funk is no longer possible
Provided it's not Bra-Funk...
How is this not the greatest concert of all time in the history of the world?
Yesssss
It is homie.
I WAS IN OHIO P-FUNKING IT BETTER KNOW THAT! I LOVED THESE GUYS SO MUCH. THEY WANTED ME TO BE A FUNK A TEER.. I WAS SO NAIVE BACK THEN, IF THEY ASKED ME AGAIN BACK THEN, I WOULD SAY YES.. KEPT MY HEAD👍PEACE&LOVE⚘
Charles Bets ,
If it isn’t the best it sure is close!
Because they're not white
I grew up in the 70s , I don’t carre what anyone says my generation is the first to have both our parents and our kids saying “turn that shit down” ! And I ain’t turning this shit down! Whose with me?!
As at Gen Z, I can confirm we want to turn this up
I'm 61, and I TOTALLY agree!
YESSS ❤ ❤ ❤
Too much FUNK for human consumption, just too much funk for one concert.
That’s funny!
James Brown also said,
“It’s Too Funky In Here”
You can never have too much FUNK.
@@barryandreev8333COMPLETELY AGREED!!!!!
it's 2020 now, and I still haven't heard a song with more funk since this gem dropped! :)
Yep! -- The only thing that creeps close to mind -- and these are really distant seconds to this -- is "Jungle Boogie" from Kool & The Gang and perhaps, another song by Funkadelic called, "(Not Just)Knee Deep." ▔\▁((.′◔_′◔.))▁/▔
can anybody honestly say they don't wish they up there? dare you.
I cannot deny it! Facts. 😊
It's December 2nd, 2023 and I have been a Riding this Funk Train since 1969!! My brother brought the Mothership album home from California and blew me away🎉
Still best concert ever
One of best version of Give up the Funk and Mothership Connection..
Maceo on SAX...His sound is uninque and easy to recognize.
All these guys were MASTER MUSICIANS !!! ...
The p_ funk at it's best.
byman64 I agree. His signature sax “squeal” has been imitated countless times over.
Ikr.!!!...."Maceo on SAX...His sound is uninque and easy to recognize."
Bernie Worrell a true genius remembered. RIP
It took some time for the band to actually realize the late Bernie Worrels contribution.
yes indeed
A moment of Woo. 🙏
Yes goodness!
@@edwardvodipija7863 they all.knew when he left in 81
Still funky & futuristic, a whole 40 years later.

2024 and we still funky Detroit Michigan
From church to the concert hall, black music have teached us to move our booty! Thank you!
NO doubt!
Damn right!
Absolutely one of the best live performances of all time! Right at the top of my favorite songs, LISTEN TO LOUD !!! If this doesn't get your ass moving, you must be dead
That's was a good Question 😂
Yes, they came to our town with this show in 1976 on my birthday and I was blessed to get tickets and went. It was off the hook!
I am a death metal guitarist. And i have to say that this music is so full of energy and positivism. I love it.
You heard the funkadelic stuff
I’m a metal head but in love with funk music lol I can’t help it
we want the funk we need the funk! gotta have that funk!
Death metal and funk like this actually have quite a bit in common. They both derive from blues, but instead of going through a standard 12 bar blues harmonic progression, they just try to capture one tense moment from that harmonic sequence and sustain it in a literally mesmerising way.
God bless you, Erwin, and hail Satan. A jam is a jam.
OMG... I'M LIKE OLD. I Was ABSOLUTELY THERE!!!! FOR REAL.
I saw this saaame show in Denver, 1976. BEST gott damm show I've seen in my life!!
I had to wait for soul train or midnight special to get a glimpse,😶🌫️🤫
Saw them in Cleveland in 1978 when I was 16. That Mothership was something else. All of their funk hits turned that concert out!!
Saw them in UK, will never forget that time ❤
songs so classic, parliament deserves more respect
THIS is how you shut it down. nuff said -July 2021
Afrika Bambaataa and the Soul Sonic Force owes a lifetime of gratitude to Parliament-Funkadelic 📀🎤🎵🎶🎼🎻🎹🎷🎺🎸
Pharaoh 1 that whole west coast rappers especially dr Dre became filthy rich off p-funk grooves and concepts
Who is still shaking their ass to this funky jam in 2024?
Shit...Goddamn...I am!
Then and Still in 2024. Loved the funk, still do!!
Right over here >> shaking the whole dam house 🤘🤩
Your ? Made me think 🤔 could it be we lost the funk, the fun it was always in the funk❤
Me me me me me me ! ! I was lucky enough to see these in Manchester in the 70s, OMG fabulous, now, my son carrys this torch on with me ❤ ❤
Am 60yrs present, I funked to Parliament at 15yrs old, my Grandkids love Same today..., For me was/still is greater time/memories All too such Greatest Talent, Musicians, Craft, Class, Word's, Music, Funk, Style, Oratory, of the, Truly, One & Only "Mothership Connection", George Clinton - Love You Always (ea. time I play this - Alway's Happy Day's mid 70's - as We Grew Up loving your Sounds - thank you so very much my Youth, God Bless 😇
I just love your comment. Yeah, my grandkids luv it too.
The best musicians, awesome stage show, and the groove that ya can’t sit still to.
Way before, but equal to the Tubes, and total mayhem on stage.
Show me something and I’ll keep coming back.
W/ Bootsy Collins. Doesn’t get any better❤️
Mothership Connection is a desert island record for me
Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley there... this band was not only fun but high quality players.
My favorite part is when.....I presume, the lead guitar syncs up with the bass guitar at the 7:45 mark. The only way I can describe it is that it's like a power drill that has the strength to bore through a mountain. Pure bliss, man. Pure bliss.
Agreed!Michael fucking Hampton! That whole distorted guitar passage sounds so sexy when its paired with a groovy funky rhythm section with horns and keys!!
mystique123 then what's Bootsy doing
that happens in many other genres
Hampton went superstrat before Eddie was cool ;)
I do think that's Bootsy stomping on some distortion pedal... Funky for sure
Love it I grew up in the seventies ❣️🙏🏻
I'm a kid and I can generally say this is some if the best music I have heard in a long time.
If that's true m.
Then Music may actually survive.
Pay it forward your children, wr may survive autotune😂❤
I was born in 76 and im a long hair dorky white boy. i have a cosmic affinity to this kind of music more than metal or country...…..can even play a lot of this stuff on my bass
Awh, man. 1976? Young pup. There was so much great music in your birth decade!
one of the most influential bands in history
As an old white lady, I can tell you back in the day it was ok/cool for me to love/groove to funk. Hurts my soul to see the divide 2day.
Black & white, we all hung together, while respecting each others' differing poli views.
Peace.
This is the type of content that brings me smiles. I have so many questions to ask lol
Preach. 🤜🤛
funk on sistah
the parties invented the divide so the people won't notice how a bunch of crooks in Washington are constantly robbing us blind and corrupting the system.
@@billolsen4360 Bill knows!!! Divide & conquer.
Up to "the people" to put it back together.
So the task ahead is to reconcile American Patriotism w. CRT?

The KINGS of Funk..!! Love the bass lines and that drumming...! My old band played this to get everyone up on the dance floor.. It worked every time..!
The 1970s was the best decade for music PERIOD!
Absolutely.

@JURASSIC KNIGHT naaaaaaah
i am a prog rock/metal fan mostly - this is fucking epic stuff - brilliant
You owe it to yourself to see this whole concert, it doesn't get any better than this, God bless George Clinton and the whole show, including sly stone, Bootsy Collins, et al
and Glen Goines who was the voice calling in the Mothership.
Just when you thought it couldn't get any Funkier, Sly and the Family Stone walk out on stage...
Sly couldn't touch this!!!
dont be ridiculous
That wasn't sly
That was Bootsy
This is awesome - the premier funk band of the funky 1970s playing their best known song and stretching it into a 10 minute funk jam. Without P-Funk, current day hip-hop, techno, dance music, and urban soul music would be lacking a major blueprint. The musical virtuosity of these amazing musicians and the tightness with which they play together is a reminder of the importance of actually bothering to learn to play a musical instrument and not just to make music buy pressing a button.
Haay how thytmistic getting you bounced like a rubber ball come on and get a taste queen m Ms freda
hip hop would never have been born without the funk that came before
GOOD MUSIC AND GOOD DANCE RHYTHM
Bot!
Glenn G was a beast I'm a clone he always saving George fact unk Nini 😂😅
That Bass Walked everybody home! Pure FUNK!😊

And I'll bet rehearsals were even better... notes bouncing off the walls!!!

They got to split that check a lot of different ways George got more people in this group than a marching band👾
Bootsy's bass lines on this song are awesome.
no matter who you are this music makes you want to dance its pure magic
James Brown Boosty & George kept it on the one. Bailey was sick on drums.

light years in time, ahead of their time
This is great funk-and let me tell you: FUNK IS ALIVE AND WELL IN NEW ORLEANS!
Jay Sewall Do you have any recommendations? Trombone shorty?
The parliament what can I say one of the greatest shows I ever seen back in 1976 with the landing of the mothership
Out of all the vocals that stands out the most.......Glenn Goins hands down!
The only Clinton I would vote for

We knew we they came in town ,they would resue us from LIFE troubles ,even for a little bit!!!😎
As a white boy growing up in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas back in the 70's, I listened to everything from Roy Clark to The Beatles to KISS to Stevie Wonder, Johnny Guitar Watson and Parliament.

but does it slap?
GREATEST FUNK BAND EVER
In the history of modern music, if there was one after gig party I would loved to have gone to, it's this one. These guys were not gonna stop partying until the police were called....and I don't think even that could have stopped them. God bless the ones we've lost.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND EVERYTHING THAT IS FUNKY
PLEASE RELEASE THIS ON 1080HD BLURAY!!
Sh-t Goddamn!
This stuff is timeless.
Music is colorblind!
But record execs aren't.
Used to play Montgomery every year it seems. My introduction to FUNK 1974!! (I was 9)🤯🕺
it didn't start in the 60's for black people... we've always had the funk

Stop right now: The Funk not only moves; it removes. Never shout: Never claim: Just feel the Funk. The Funk is colour blind.
Maggot Brain is one of the greatest albums I have ever heard in my life. Parliament and Funkadelic two of the greatest bands ever. R.I.P Eddie Hazel.
@2:50 STARTS THE ABSOLUTE HIGHEST FORM OF FUNK THERE IS WITH THE OLD FUNK SHADY GLENN AND ESP FUZZY BLOWING LIKE A STRONG WIND!
148 A- Holes did not like this. Amazing! They must lack soul, rhythm and sense. Utterly awesome. See the whole (Texas) gig and get it. The best concert since Woodstock. Indeed it IS Woodstock a decade later. The black Led Zeppelin (Ie the best band in the world in the 1970's along with LZ). It's like Jimi Hendrix mixed with James Brown!
Pure genius!.
MegaRaven100 - like Jimi mixed with JB! That's a cool analogy...
+MegaRaven100 Yep. Maceo Parker, Bootsy Collins, and most of James Brown's original JB's left Brown and joined Parliament/Funkadelic. Just making the perfect blend!
Indeed and they loved Hendrix too!
+MegaRaven100 The only thing wrong with this is they missed the intense guitar ending when the Mother ship leaves. I've got the whole gig. The only thing ever wrong with P Funk is the fact they are ending the show which we want to go on forever!
We're on the same page with that! ;)
If yall still looking for that Plane that disappeared....Kid funkadelic done went and abducted it...There is an inter-Galactic APB...out on Kid Funkadelic....And Star child has gone to the Intergalactic Counsel to go apprehend the Kid...The Kid stricks again.....I will Never give back that plane StarChild...I don't want your Funky Funk!!!

My best friend and I would dance to this song in the school parking lot if it came on the car radio before or after classes. Short version of course. It deserves a resurgence. This song holds up. Great fun. Thanks for sharing. These guys were wonderful.
