I've lived in Medellin in 2016, and I've just returned from a two month stay. It now rains almost every day there, or it did at least in February. Don't let anyone tell you Medellin is safe....muggings are common, often at knife point!. There is a high level of petty crime such as mobile phone theft and wallet theft etc. I keep hearing that 'Medellin has changed beyond recognition since the days of Escobar'. Well visually perhaps yes, with lots of new buildings and an excellent metro system. But many problems remain. It's expensive, the service sucks, the traffic is unruly and awful, and you will be targeted as a gringo for at least price gouging if not worse... Having said that, it's worth a visit... But it's no paradise...b
Escobar employed hundreds of locals who perpetrated innumerable acts of crime and violence. Guess what; I suspect many of those criminals still live there and are "looking for work".
The locals seem to pronounce it “Mede-Jean.” I’m also troubled that you’re saying it’s safe now - there’s been a huge spike in crime including targeting of foreigners.
I was thinking the same I have a trip booked in two weeks to go to Medellin for the first time. I’m staying in poblado the supposed safe area but then I just saw a video of people getting held up in a nice restaurant in poblado 🤦🏻 so now I’m getting a little worried
@@nickychops6729 Same. It was an armed robbery in the restaurant of the Click Clack Hotel. Another tourist was robbed of his phone in Poblado last night apparently (he resisted: bad idea). Earlier in the month two tourists were robbed and killed in their hotel room in Laureles - they were soliciting women via Tinder.
@@BoydJones yeah it looks like you really have to have your head on a swivel . I’m coming from New York where there of course is plenty of crime but it seems they are a lot more brazen and don’t care about the cops

Safety in general seems to be the common concern, and many advise not to have phones or expensive tech in public due to a variety of petty crime being tempted by the “papaya.” I’m going to Medellín this Friday and plan to do some video work. Any advice on filming without having my stuff stolen? Felt generally safe with you’re phone and cameras in the open?
Nice video! Would be great to give some more insights about safety in medellin or colombia in general (any areas to avoid, armed robberies etc). Cheers
👋 Welcome to Medellin, the city of eternal spring, Medellin is the most developed city in Colombia and the #1 in quality of life in the country, in addition Medellin is one of the world capitals of digital nomads, even Medellin is the ONLY HEADQUARTERS OF ALL LATIN AMERICA for *THE FOURTH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION* along with TOKYO, BEIJING, MUMBAI and SAN FRANCISCO, which are the headquarters of the other continents.
Loved your video, FYI that was not coffee, that was probably “aguapanela” or something similar, it is a traditional drink nonetheless the food was not traditional at all, that’s contemporary food, I guess? Anyways, I do appreciate foreigners enjoying my city but the grass is very different when you are Colombian, they don’t kill/rob/kidnap you, only because you are a tourist other than that the city is an extremely dangerous place to be overall, infrastructure is outrageous, the healthcare system does not work, wages are insane low, corruption is terrible as well, really bad place to live unfortunately

great job on this video really enjoyed it thanks
Poblado has some of the flyest penthouses I've ever stayed in. Very affordable but be aware with the price gouging you may run into being a gringo.
Its often gringo property owners, not colombians, that do the gouging!
@@tahiti1 what does have to do with being aware of price gouging? It happens innately all over the world by humans in general.
