Seen a few comments about people having to sit through a couple minutes of prelude before the actual anthem itself, a few of them daring to call themselves Australian. If you REALLY were an Aussie, you wouldn't have heard the song at all thanks to the NBN. It's taken me 5 months to encode and transmit this comment via passenger ship to Britain.
This is a beautiful anthem. The prelude is a wonderful example of building the senses to receive an honor of your country. I have only seen pictures and videos of your country. I will never be able to travel there and I wish I could.
When you see a huge spider in your house Edit: despite my arachnophobia, I’ve always wanted to travel to Australia because it’s a really beautiful place
My husband and I took our second honeymoon in Melbourne and Queenscliff back in the 1980s, and we both loved the Antipodes. ❤️ We try to come back once a decade at least. Much love from Canada.
Not the full song, but bravo anyway! Australian here, there is a second part: Beneath our radiant Southern Cross, We'll toil with heart and hands; To make this Commonwealth of ours, Renowned through all the lands; For those who've come across the seas, We've boundless plains to share; With courage let us all combine to Advance Australia Fair! In joyful strains then let us sing, Advance Australia Fair!
To our Australian brothers and sisters, thank you all for being an amazing ally and nation for the last few centuries. May our friendship be eternal. 🇺🇸 🤝 🇦🇺 🤝 🇬🇧
I actually kinda like the new version. Putting everything else aside, it just feels more natural to sing (“are one and free” rolls off the tongue smoother than “are young and free”)
When I first saw this I thought you were going to play the song 'Advance Australia Fair' by Peter Dodds McCormick and copyrighted by him back in the the 19th century, but when the singing started I found that instead of that great song you'd recorded the ALP Commonwealth Government National Anthem mandated by Bob Hawke as Prime Minister and copyrighted by the Australian Commonwealth Government. There are several word changes and a slight change to the music. There had been a vote on the song as a National Anthem back in the 1970s which was touted as a referendum at the time but later called a plebiscite by Bob Hawke so he could ignore the result of the vote and push his own agenda to change the National Anthem. The 1970s vote was for it to be a National Song and NOT the National Anthem. At the time of the vote the words were provided to the people and they were the original words by McCormick which start with "Australia's sons let us rejoice ..." - the original music was much more regal, in my opinion, as it flowed better and was usually performed at a slightly faster tempo and lower key than the Commonwealth Government variant. What's frightening is how hard it now is to find copies of the original music and words. edit to add: For patriotic Australian songs you could include 'I still call Australia Home' and 'Up there Cazaly' as the phrase 'Up there Cazaly' was an Aussie rallying and battle cry during WW2.
@@tratran2722 The song 'Advance Australia Fair' was written by Peter Dodds and starts with the words: "Australia's sons let us rejoice ..." but while Bob Hawke was Prime Minister he changed some words and some notes then mandated the new song was the 'Australian National Anthem' with the copyright owned by the Australian government - and that's what was played in the clip instead of the song 'Advance Australia Fair.'
What does it matter if they changed it to australians it is the one which i have grown up with and i tihnk it includes everyone quite well it is not just men in australia
@@milo-rf1qj There are three problems with the change. The first is there was what was called, at that time, a 'Referendum' on the issue as to what the national anthem was and the wording of the songs was included. The vote was to leave the National Anthem as it was and a National Song with the original wording was voted in - both with overwhelming majorities. Then the Labour Government later changed it without asking the public for their opinion on it again. So they deliberately ignored the public's prior statements on the issue. Second, they changed the words without the prior approval of the writer or his heirs. Third, when they first changed the wording and made the fiat declaration it was now the National Anthem the government claimed the copyright to the song, and then later changed the wording again to suit their political needs of the day. BTW: The original song and wording are in the Public Domain.
