I love how engaged this caller was with the conversation. He was actually listening and honestly considering the hosts' questions, as opposed to simply calling in with the intent to reaffirm his personal beliefs.
It's wonderful to hear someone challenging their own core beliefs in real-time. Excellent call👍
At least Alexander was listening and answering and not just regurgitating his own manuscript.
Yeah. He’s what religion needs more of, but he’s already taken the first steps toward overcoming religion, which is also nice to see.
Props to Alexander for being honest and receptive.
This is a really good call.
There was an actual dialogue and only if others actually engaged the world would be a better place,
"You are bad because you do exactly what we do!"
"Atheism is based on faith too?"
"So are you saying faith is bullshit?"
Checkmate believers
@@CheesyChez421 Faith is based on imaginary speculations.
Atheism is based on reasonable expectations based on reality. Why religious people do not understand the indisputable fact they they are ALL atheists about THOUSANDS of imagined gods I do not know?
A person claiming to believe in ONE god, is not absolved from their disbelief (atheism) towards all the others.
Here is the self evident reason why ALL gods are imaginary.
One two part question for people with superstitious religious beliefs.
(A) If someone told you (or you read in a book) that the sun used matches and candles to spread light and heat at night.
Would it be obvious to you, how self evidently illogical, irrational, unreasonable and nonsensical this idea was? (Would you understand why)?
(B) If someone told you (or you read in a book) that something capable of creating a universe and everything in it, used puny humans and books to spread accurate information.

As long as people are afraid of the unknown, for example what happens after death, people will continue to believe in stories that soothe their fear.
The problem is that we know exactly what happens to us after we die, we won't exist any more, and it's that reality we fear. People don't want that reality to be true so they make up comfortable stories to believe in instead of what will actually happen.
@@brianmonks8657 "The problem is that we know exactly what happens to us after we die, we won't exist any more"
I agree for 99.99999 ..... %. If you say 100% it is a claim. And there is no way to prove that.
The reality of mortality is preferable to the far fetched comforting man made fable
@@MrCanis4 We know enough about the brain to know it's true. Absolute certainty doesn't exist and trying to hide behind it and say well, we can't prove it 100% is just hiding from reality. Nothing is known at 100% so anyone can claim uncertainty about anything they don't want to be true, that doesn't change what will happen one bit.
@@MrCanis4
Sure there is. Organisms which die, by definition, no longer sustain a metabolism. They consequently decay into their constituent materials.
If this process doesn't take place then, by the same definition, the organism HAS NOT DIED.
Saying "what if there's some magic process involving some invisible dimension of reality?" is a groundless speculation. It's not something to which we can assign a probability, because probability involves random variables, and we cannot justify the existence of such a random variable in this case.
In other words, something doesn't become POSSIBLE just because you have decided that you can speculate about it. You're just making shit up.
I like it when xians say atheists believe in faith too. So they are implying faith is a bad reason to believe in anything. LOL
@stevenkinney2740 eh, I think what they are getting at is that an atheist is being hypocritical for saying faith is bad when they "secretly" have faith too. I mean, not any better but I don't think they are admitting to faith being bad when they say that.
And apparently it takes more faith to be a materialist than it does to believe in a god
Sometimes they will try and differentiate between good and bad faith, base entirely upon their own definitions of good and bad.
@@mattjindrak This is true, allot more faith, god's the simplest answer.

Let’s imagine that atheism is based in faith (which it is not, let’s be clear on that), then by saying we need faith too you agree that faith is a bad thing. So my question now is : what’s the position that has no faith ? Because clearly that position will be better as no faith is better than needing to have faith, so what’s that position ?
I love how people say we have the absolute free will to do right or wrong, and yet they also say no one actually does right. Why is it that no one is actually free to will that they never do anything wrong?
Because of original sin.
@@scipioafricanus5871 And that's compatible with free will?
@@scipioafricanus5871Where is it mentioned in the OT?
The very concept of original sin refutes free will. Especially when we had no ability to consent to having original sin. It was inflicted against our free will.
Course not, christianity is predicated on people being pieces of shit. If you try to rationalize it beyond that point you're going to wind up with a dichotomy so vicious your brain will split in two.
Bless this lad. Hope it went well for him.
I want to live free and be me, whoever I grow up to be. I want the same thing for all humans, equally. And god/gods will throw me into hell for that. Why is that a sin? Is going to hell for that fair? Is that love? Is it forgiving? Is it smart? Is it an action of an all-knowing, all-powerful and all-benevolent being? Hell No! Do parents punish their kids for treating their siblings and friends as equals?
Without a God to rescue us, it is up to humans to make a better world. That is profound. We have only a few decades to do our part.
I never believed in religions even as a child. My family is super Christian. They would talk about how they felt god. I told my mother I did not feel it. She got so mad at me. How dare an eight year tell her he didn't feel god. Hi Kids, Let's have fun with Logic!!!! If not believing in the Christian God takes Faith in that very god, meaning that one really really believes in that very Deity. Then by simple extension ALL of the gods Christians say THEY don't believe in means they really do. And so they are breaking the first commandment automatically because Not believing is Believing. There now that didn't hurt did it? All the best to everyone Jacques
I have seen some theists say that other gods do exist in some fashion ,but they are lesser / minor gods or not the true God. Which is why the 1st commandment says not to worship them over the God of the bible
@@kasocool2812 I've also seen those claims. The idea comes from St. Paul 1Cor.10-20 No, I am suggesting that what the pagans sacrifice they offer [in effect] to demons (to evil spiritual powers) and not to God [at all]. so I'm aware of the Theology.
My point was more of a logical one than a theological one. If NOT believing is actually BELIEVING then whatever one does not believe in, I'm sure Christians do NOT believe that Moloch is a god, therefore if NOT believing is believing then Christians (and everybody else) believe he IS a god. Aw, man, I'm proud of him.
No, it's not based on faith, because my worldview does not center around the question of god concepts. I've yet to hear one, or think of one that I could say "I believe that thing exists." Just because theism is of primary importance to theists, doesn't mean it is for everyone. I have no idea what the origin of being is, if there even is an origin to being, and as far as I can tell, no one else does either. Therefore it's not a concept to be concerned with, and no faith is involved.
A reminder to all Christians who believe they have a commission to fulfill.
It's not fulfilled by blindly quoting or ranting Bible verses.
It's not fulfilled by being obviously ignorant and incredulous about science.
The point of your commission is to bring people to Christ. Driving them away is the very antithesis of your commission. Thus making it sinful.

Great episode. Wonder about the 18 year old - now.
I understand that the man who becomes known by the title Iesus Christus (Jesus Christ, which is just a title) was in fact a real person.
I'm a gnostic atheist, but additionally have a healthy appreciation of history.
The reason that I believe the Nazarene Messiah claimant, who eventually becomes a choice given the title by the Council of Nicaea in 325 CE, actually existed is because the claimant was not as popular as the primary claimant during the time period when the cult of Yahweh was in its infancy.
The much more popular claimant was Simon Magus. A documented person referenced quite a bit (and importantly, independent of the bible) in history.
Simon Magus was hugely popular and at the time of the Council of Nicaea, he was widely accepted by the majority of the faith as THE actual son of Yahweh.
There are accounts of Simon and his disciples and the Nazarene and his disciples attacking each other. Fights, and conflicts took place. The two Messiah claimants clashed.
Their stories are identical. They both supposedly performed miracles, tortured and crucified by the Romans, both supposedly resurrected.
But the Rabbi called Jesus these days, was only chosen because Simon had Magus in his name as a title. Magus means Magi/Magician/Sorcerer.
The reason that they chose the 30% guy to be the one with the title (Annointed of Yahweh) Iesus Christus, was because they felt that the title Magus was not appropriate.
But given the fact that there was a man known as Simon Magus, that he is documented as having a rivalry with the other man from Nazareth (actual name lost to antiquity), I'm going to go with the Nazarene being real.
As in a person. Not the theistic nonsense that worshippers of a stolen Sumerian war god want to make ridiculous claims about.
Jesus (whoever he was actually named) was most likely a real person. But not very important among the cult of Yahweh until after 325 CE.
What is a gnostic atheist?
I did what this kid did at about 14. It came on real fast despite (or maybe because) I went a Lutheran school. I just knew it was nonsense

Im atheists because my hope in the bible was destoryed when i actually started reading it at 15. The first 2 chapters contradicts itself entirely. First chapter of genesis says man and woman were made together then god made the animal kingdom, yet the second chapter of genesis says god made man, created the animal kingdom, sent man to name the animals then god made woman as man was lonely.
I have problems since then. I read and read yet kept running into verses that counter each other. Today i can't possibly say the god of the book that i was born into (baptized as a baby) can't say which came first a lion or a human woman, or if its wrong to beat human property as a good argument towards my beliefs in god. I no longer believe as the evidence provided to me can't hold up to my questions.
