I have an '84 A712 washer and dryer set... in ALMOND!! I am so afraid to replace them if and when something goes wrong. I wonder if it is worth a repair. Reading all the complaints about newer models, I am hesitant.
I have the same washing machine. Couple of questions: Where do you put bleach? Also ive been having a problem with the fabric softener not draining, any ideas on how to fix that?
I pour the bleach in the tub while it is filling up with water. As for the fabric softener, try taking the blue cup out and clean it. Also, take lint trap out and clean that. The lint trap is the blue thing the cup sits in. Hope this helps.
I've heard never use fabric softener or it will eventually mess with the pump. I don't and am ok with it. Also, fabric softener leaves a film on the clothing and towels to get the softness and that won't due for me. after several washings the residual fabric softener came out of the clothing.
I have owned this exact washer since 1988. It recently started running from one cycle to the next without stopping. I will start it on the 'regular fabrics' cycle and it may shut off at the 'permanent press' off. Sometimes it keeps on going around. Can someone tell me which part likely needs to be replaced?
I have one almost like that. I bought the Maytag used 17 years ago from a repair shop. I have had two belts replaced, a relay box refurbished since. The washer still works but not 100%. The gears in the transmission have probably worn down, so I can only wash small loads. If I wash a big load, the agitator won't move and make awful nosies. To wash a large load, I first set to small load setting, as the agitator starts to move, I add more washing quickly and add more water using an external hose. I hope it will keep working since I dislike the modern washers. Any suggestion on how to repair the transmission? I am not mechanically inclined.
I’m not mechanically inclined either, but I would suggest looking up videos on how to repair it. I have done that with success for my washer, dryer, refrigerator, car. Good luck.
Permanent press on the older machines made more sense when people were line drying. Most people today have a dryer so there is really no need for the cycle.
Prevented wrinkles on nicer work clothes and such...that’s why they still have a “Perm Press/Casual” load on most newer machines too. It uses more water as well (at least in my front loader)
Take the lint filter out of the agitator top and soak it in maybe mild dish soap and use a toothbrush or another soft brush to get the gunk out. Believe me they're hard to clean. Having two grandma's who had the same model of maytag washers like this I've cleaned out the lint filter many times. Hope this helps me
Can you still buy all the parts for this machine, like the timers, control buttons ? I was debating buying one I saw in nice shape but worried that some parts are not available
I’m sure you can find parts online, but you can also buy a broken machine and use that for spare parts. They are really great machines. Thank you so much for your comment and thank you for watching my video!
Hey yall im trying to use this now but i cant figure out how to get it to start, i moved the knob just like he did but its not starting for me? Please help asap im just trying to start my friends laundry for him 😅😅
Push knob in them turn to it always to the right and as soon as you put it on the beginning of the cycle you have selected and preferably the beginning then you pull knob back out and it starts filling up then agitates and pauses briefly then starts spinning out the water, and if you ever need to stop it just push Knob back in.
College Debt Slavery-on kindle that’s a good question. Unfortunately I don’t have an answer for you. Would love to see a pic. Maybe you can add the fabric softener manually to the tub after the first spin cycle after it fills with clean water again? Merry Christmas and thank you so much for watching and commenting!
@@lonestartropicalstx Hi there. Thanks for the reply! There is a video of my machine on my other channel and can be found with this: /watch?v=9W7C8UBbWJU
I love these videos. It just goes to show how stupid companies got by putting electronics parts in these appliances. They cost a lot of money and break down easily. I will always keep my Maytag top loader that is really good, and gets my clothes clean, without any electronics. I am a guy that likes working in the garage and working on cars and lawnmowers, so I get dirty all the time. But that Maytag I have has saved my clothes. I am also trying out different detergents, not just one. A name brand detergent like Tide cost $20 but I will try to find a good detergent that doesn’t cost a lot like Tide or Persil.
Soft water system has kept my maytag la612 perfect. also, liquid detergent; never had a clogging inside the washer or in my drain. I don't think the powders dissolve fully.
I purchased my house and it came with a pair of Maytag washer/dryer. I tried to determine the age of them but no success. Washer LA9800 serial 203129 BY. Anyone help ?
@@lonestartropicalstx wow. Thanks for the info. Now I really do not want to part with them. I just open the cover and everything inside looks pristine. I just need to change out the counter balancing springs. Hope they will run another 30 years.
@@doheo33 honestly, they probably will. And if something needs to be replaced, it is so easy to fix yourself. If you’re not me mechanically inclined, just search RUclips for a tutorial.
That looks almost exactly like my Mom's washer, but the model is A490 series 2. What I'm trying to find out is how many gallons does the Ex-Large setting use? (Getting a new sink.)
@@lonestartropicalstx You're tub is "indexing" (or moving) during agitation. It should remain stationary. Because it's not, the brake is not holding. There may be one of two things that are the problem...either the brake is not fully engaging or you need a new tub brake. There are plenty of youtube videos about Maytag brakes.
@@lonestartropicalstx Of course! The other tell tale sign is that it took the tub a little longer to come to a stop than it should have when it finished spinning. Before investing in a brake package, you might try removing the transmission pulley and putting some additional grease on the helical shaft. The transmission pulley rides up and down that shaft and engages or disengages the brake, depending on the direction of the motor. When it's not well greased, the brake sometimes won't engage as it should. Again, youtube is a great resource for learning how to remove the transmission pulley and re-installing it. Try that first. If it works, you have a simple fix!
@@lonestartropicalstx I bet if you do a sound test by tapping your fingers on the washer with both hands by rolling/tapping them, it will sound well built compared to this modern crap they call "durable". I would like to hear a test like that.
@@jeromedavis8575 unfortunately I can’t do that test on this machine because I have it In Storage as a back up to the one that came with the house we bought. It is an older model as well. I believe it is a 1990 model.

What did he replace it with?
CAN U EXPLAIN HOW I CAN CLEAN FILTER, LIKE OTHER MACHINES
Not sure I can. Sorry.
Take the lint filter out of the agitator top and soak it in maybe mild dish soap and use a toothbrush or another soft brush to get the gunk out. Believe me they're hard to clean. Having two grandma's who had the same model of maytag washers like this I've cleaned out the lint filter many times. Hope this helps me
Are you sure you're suppose to pore the soap in the center?
I poured the detergent in to the drum and put the fabric softener in the blue center dispensing cup.
Please help asap im just trying to start my friends laundry for him 😅😅
Push the button down, turn knob to select the washing cycle, pull knob to start filling the drum with water. Good luck! ❤️
U HAVE TO PRESS BUTTON DOWN AND TURN IT
Push knob in them turn to it always to the right and as soon as you put it on the beginning of the cycle you have selected and preferably the beginning then you pull knob back out and it starts filling up then agitates and pauses briefly then starts spinning out the water, and if you ever need to stop it just push Knob back in.
MY 1999 Kenmore washer doesn't have the cup on top of the agitator. So where and when do I add fabric softener?
College Debt Slavery-on kindle that’s a good question. Unfortunately I don’t have an answer for you. Would love to see a pic. Maybe you can add the fabric softener manually to the tub after the first spin cycle after it fills with clean water again? Merry Christmas and thank you so much for watching and commenting!
@@lonestartropicalstx Hi there. Thanks for the reply! There is a video of my machine on my other channel and can be found with this: /watch?v=9W7C8UBbWJU
You can always buy a Downy Ball.
Hi is that normal my stops at rinse I just bought it from a yardsale
No, I don’t think that is normal. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
love9boy yeah man I hope that your channel will grow big.
I believe your washer was manufactured in November of 1990.
Still have it?
I sure do!
What's the size of the drum? Thank you
I have no idea. It’s pretty large, though.
That looks almost exactly like my Mom's washer, but the model is A490 series 2. What I'm trying to find out is how many gallons does the Ex-Large setting use? (Getting a new sink.)
Rodney Atkins hmm? Good question. I’m sorry, but I have no idea. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Where can I go to get this machine in Tucson with thanks in advance
I have no idea. Try Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace.
How’s it running now days?
craigsclocks it runs great!
love9boy I have been wanting a Maytag washer for a long time. I hope one day I will find one. Please. Please. Please.
craigsclocks you’ll find one. Keep looking. ❤️
love9boy Absolutely. One day my dream will come true.
What is model/serial number of this washer please?
Should be in the description box.

es350 same color?
love9boy yes i have a video of it
es350 I’ll check it out.
How much u want for it?
It’s not for sale.
@@lonestartropicalstx haha ya I was just kidding...kinda. I'm just jealous man
Looks like she needs a new brake package!
A new brake package? What do you mean?
@@lonestartropicalstx You're tub is "indexing" (or moving) during agitation. It should remain stationary. Because it's not, the brake is not holding. There may be one of two things that are the problem...either the brake is not fully engaging or you need a new tub brake. There are plenty of youtube videos about Maytag brakes.
Thank you for letting me know! I appreciate it so much!
Thanks for letting me know. You wouldn't happen to have a link to a tutorial video would you?
A real washer! None of this HE CRAP!
That’s right! These machine were built to last forever! And they will with proper maintenance and care.
@@lonestartropicalstx You should do a finger rolling/tapping sound test on that one. I'd also would like to see a regular fabrics cycle as well. It will sound better than the new crap they have out now.
ASAP SETTING HOW TO START. OH. IT'S WATER ALL OVER..
Sorry dude. Turn the water off.
Lo quiero el video en españll
No abla espanol.
Ahhhh!!! Turn jeans/denims inside out!
